The Average Sri Lankan

Updated on November 14, 2017

It is interesting to see where we stand in society. This post takes a discerning look into the average Sri Lankan and has been inspired by The Average American. There are 20 facts for your perusal here.

There is no single source of information on the average Sri Lankan. To know him (or her), you have to follow the demographics. To that end, here is a sampling of just a few of the characteristics of the average Sri Lankan (adult) or household.

1. The average Sri Lankan makes Rs. 33,894 per month.

There is a 300% import tax on motor cars and vans. This could be the reason for such a small percentage of households owning a motor car or van. But even in neighboring India which doesn’t have the import duties there is a similar spectrum of figures when it comes to car and van ownership.

17. The average Sri Lankan has a safe source of drinking water (89.7%) and it is within premises.

18. The average Sri Lankan has sufficient water for drinking and for bathing/washing.

19. The average Sri Lankan has toilet facilities.

20. The average Sri Lankan has electricity.

The only way to see an increase in the standard of living is for the average Sri Lankan to see a boost in his or her numbers. Keep a tab on these figures as the years go by.
