The Backstory of the Ramon Salcido Mass Murders

Updated on February 13, 2011

What About Angela Salcido?

This is not defend Ramon Salcido for the mass murder of family victims in 1989, in Sonoma County. Most know of the crimes and to a lesser extent, what state was his mental state in. Was he simply insane? insane induced by drugs? Just a "overly jealous guy" insecure in his relationship with his wife, Angela, a wannabe White model that made him very possessive? Did he feel unworthy of her because he was a Mexican working at a vineyard not making very much?

Did Angela have anything, whatsoever, to do with this horrific end story? Some living acquaintances seem to tell a different story. On that fateful early morning. Angela was in a hotel room that morning with the owner of the modeling school Ramon was working two jobs to put her through. Implies she was having an affair that Ramon had a deep suspicion about leading up to the murders. The children of Angela and Ramon differ in their appearance with Carmina and Teresita being blondish, while Sophia, dark. Angela is accused of having one-night stands and in one case became pregnant. Eventually Ramon was to find out that Sophia was not his. This was a very big deal to him because it happened while they were married.

Famed attorney, Melvin Belli, sued the Sonoma Mission Inn for Ramon because they refused him a room. Also in their past history, Angela was caught in the hot tub with the owner of her modeling school by Ramon. For him, a possessive and insecure jealous guy, she shouted at him that Sophia was not his. Ramon went into an alcohol and cocaine frenzy that night with buddies at local bars trying to numb his pain of not only losing a job and knowing what he did about Angela and what she wanted. O-U-T spells out. So, Angela went to the ATM early that morning, get some cash, and probably take the kids somewhere. She was escaping also. Running from the infildelity she had committed earlier. She also felt guilt and need to save face.

However, this time, she was caught in bad timing, like the earlier hot tub event. That is when hell was unleashed. As the children slept, the parents took up knives for battle. Ramon won this round. Now, the emotion dissipated, Ramon could not stand it knowing what his future was to be. He was not insane. He was NOT going to allow anyone else raise his daughters, yet, he knew it would not be him, so they would be his next victims.

What Ramon did was not warranted. No way. But, it is always interesting to know the back story of events in crime and here, both Angela and Ramon, are guilty of passionate crimes.

I realize you wrote this 7 years ago but I am just now reading it and if you are still alive I feel the need to tell you what a vile human being you are. Blaming the wife for her murder by her sick and deprived husband. You also left out the part where he had an affair on his wife and a child was produced from that. I don’t judge anyone for what they do but no one deserves what that man did to his family and DAUGHTERS!

I was the paralegal in the main jail where he was held and where he spoke with me when he visited the law library. Suppositions or hearsay, it is history now that has been resolved. I suspect that what Ramon told me then was from his perspective and could be partially true, or totally true. It was a bad ending to a relationship in horror. Justice did prevail, however.

Perry, I'm not sure your connection to this, or any knowledge you possess, but I covered this story from the first reports of shots fired from the Sheriff's department dispatch, and you make a lot of suppositions that are barely if not at all supported. You might want to take this down.

The point is to show the possible reason why Ramon did what he did and in order to do that, Angela was not miss innocent, but a woman who was sick of her husband and yet tied to him because of the kids until she no longer could stand it. He was a womanizer also near the end and became paranoid about what she might do. He had suspicions. Like many ending marriages, both sides are guilty. In this case, had Angela acted even a day earlier by leaving, she and the other kids might be alive. Timing is everything.

Your writing would probably be reflected in a much more credible light if it weren't dripping with bias against Angela, the "wannabe white model". Perhaps if you included all the facts for those that didn't catch 20/20 and included that, he too, fathered a child during/outside the marriage, people wouldn't be so quick to call you out for ignorance. Facts are facts, let people form their own opinions.

Obviously, perrya, you aren't a local. Your story is just that, a story. My husband worked at Sonoma Valley Unified School District and came within 15 seconds of being another Salcido victim. For whatever reason, Salcido changed his mind and drove off. My husband was working on school maintained land next to the winery where Salcido murdered his boss. He drove in, hell bent for election and when he left he stopped right next to the area my husband was working in. Stared at him, started to lift his hand and then changed his mind and left.

Sonoma is a small town. There was NO gossip about his wife, only about HIS screwing around. You have taken the typical blame the victim route to get play on your page.

And, I don't give a dead rat's patooty how mad he may or may not have been at his wife, he took 3 little girls who loved and trusted him, slit their throats and tossed them in the county dump!

Just to be clear about there being no excuses, Mexico doesn't extradite to the U.S. because we have the death penalty. They called him the Hyena and said "here take him we don't want him." They didn't want to hear the lame ass excuses you've come up with either.

As to blond or brunette, mom was VERY fair skinned. Carmina, who survived has blondish hair AND looks just like her father! Go look up the pictures yourself.

Geez, talk about yellow rag journalism and making bucks off the backs of dead people @@

If you watch the Investigation Discovery chanel show, "Evil, I," it stated Ramon had an extra marital affair which resulted in a child, a boy. Ramon, and only Ramon is responsible for the murders. Let's not forget, he brutally slaughtered FOUR children, who were completely innocent.

I was just watching the story on ABC's show 20/20 and it seems the writer here didn't state that Ramon Salcido had an Affair with another woman and in result had a baby boy whom court appointed he had to pay $500 monthly on child support..if this was "motive" for his rage as he wrote in a note he left behind , how come he didn't harm them as well or did he and we just don't know about it..

Angry Mother, I can understand your rant against Ramon. He is an evil, evil man that, you're right, shouldn't be breathing good oxygen. But I can't understand your harsh words at Perrya. Why shouldn't he tell the back story? It's fact; cold hard facts whether we like it or not. And, instead of letting Ramon Salcedo, slink off into a forgotten memory, Perrya is helping to keep Ramon to the forefront of people's minds; people who will send letters and make calls, ensuring that Ramon Salecedo gets his just desserts.

Did you even stop to read the part where he said, "This is not to defend Ramon Salcedo..."?

And I take offense at your accusation that writing this story is for the sake of gaining Perrya attention? Really? Do you toss those accusations out to your local newspaper? The television stations you watch? The radio stations you listen to? Did you say these same things to Carmen Salcedo who wrote a book about her near-death at the hands of her father? Was she just seeking attention? I dare you to say she was, because I have had personal conversations with Carmen and no that is NOT the case.

And if you're going to insult and toss accusations around so freely, then it would lend to your credibility if you could do so with punctuation and proper grammar.

@angrymom- your rant, accusations, are your opinions, many I agree with. There are no excuses for what he did, duh! the back story is part of the whole story why he snapped and did what he did.

back story or not, gives no justification to do as the animal ramon done. how can u as a writer say why he committed such a act of an animal. u can not u were not there living the life of that animal. for no reason what so ever is he justified in his actions, nor r the victims to blame what so ever. u need something to write about and this is what gets u the writer the attention so u write, pretty sad. that animal needs to be put down like the animal he is, stop spending tax money for him th brethe air he does not deserve. why don't u write on the system and how unjust they r to the tax payers and all the special treatment this animal ramon gets from with in the wall of prison...yet he enjoys life in there. dam shame if u ask me, and worse that u continue to write about the animal making him look justified in his crime and the victims at fault. sad!!!! there must be something wrong with u all these yrrs later to keep this garbage up in ur writings, DV is a huge problem in r country and needs to be talked of but u point blank give that animal a reason as to why he done what he did, sick.

If Ramon had only killed his wife, there might have been a little sympathy (maybe, by some) but to do that to his daughters is in NO WAY justifiable. When he did what he did to his daughters, any jealousy defense flew right out the window. You have to be a cold-blooded man to do that to your own flesh and blood.

Btw, I'm not fussing at you, I read where you said this wasn't in defense of Ramon. Ir realize you were just telling the story. So I hope you'll realize that I just ranted against it. :)

I think that this was very tragic and although some of the hearsay "may" have some truth to it...This particular version is jumping to more than one conclusion and I think that makes this version bias, and a little irresponsible. In that sharing the facts you are given may have been well intentioned you can't tell the story of what was in the mind of a person who died and did not get a chance to share. Provoked...who's to say what provoked who first... not anyone who was not involved... Many people see your life and think they know you, or what's going on because they know someone who knows you or your partner... but they absolutely do not.
