The Bernie Sander's Phenomenon

Updated on February 24, 2020

Freaking Out Over Sanders

He tried in 2016 and almost, but not quite, got the nomination for the Deomcratic Party's man to face-off Trump. That was until the Clinton machine and super delegates derailed it. Now, it is 2020, and it is deja-vu or redux. This time, he is surging well beyond the next threat, Joe Biden, and seems to be the one that will get the nod in the Democratic convention.

The Appeal

Millions plan to vote for this 78-year old man for handful of pie-in-the-sky promises that would prove very difficult to implement before he would naturally die. With one heart attack already, one can only wonder. Just why does the 18-30 yr. old voters want him?

  • Free tuition for college
  • Forgiveness of past college loans and debt
  • Free daycare
  • Free healthcare for all
  • Stop climate change
  • Stop high prescriptions
  • Criminalize those who are filthy rich with 35% tax rates

Basically, turn America into a real socialist country where the government provides services even more than they do now. Turn the USA into a Swedish-type model. But like Biden has said, it is very impracticable to pay for this without raising taxes for all.

All taxes would need to be raised. Maybe the rich would be taxed at 35%, while those in the middle class at 25%, and the poor, 15%. Who knows what the details are because Sander's has not provided such details- but they sound good, especially, free college and healthcare. Could America become a even more socialist country?

The Fear

Turning America into a socialist style country is horrifying to many moderate democratic voters. Enough not to vote or give Trump the nod. The Democratic Party is also freaking out that his lead will increase and by the time the convention arrives, might get the first round nod. To combat this, there is the Bloomberg\Clinton option being explored and promoted so that in a contested convention, this duo would get the nod. Perhaps Biden might also be in the mix, depending on how he does.

Imagine a contested convention with a Bloomberg\Clinton ticket. She did beat Trump in popular vote in 2016, but still suffers bad press at the hand's of Russia, who did not want her to be elected.

Should Sander's prevail and is the chosen one against trump- God help us. Sander's would cause more disruption in America in a different way, a total upheaval that is plagued with unforeseen problems as he tries to implement his socialism.
