The Chicago Drivers Guide to Rideshare Profits: Follow the Money/Prime Locations- The Lake's Edge

Updated on March 8, 2017

Lake Michigan is the dominant figure on Chicago's landscape. In fact, it is key to Chicago life and has played a big part in the city's history. Today, seven of the 10 locations listed on the Prime Place list sit next to it. Evanston's Northwestern University campus, Hyde Park's Museum of Science and Industry, the South Loop's museum campus and Streeterville's Navy Pier all nestle along side the lake.

The best locations for rideshare revenue gathering in Chicago have an abundance of certain traits in common. I refer to such traits as "go to qualities" because these facets of a location make it a profitable destination for the Chicago driverpreneur. (driver/entrepreneur) The lake front is full of "go to" potential.

Downtown Evanston

Evanston combines the best of big city allure with small town charm. Northwestern University students supply big numbers of request. The remainder of the town people pitch in with even more request. Together they make this lake shore gem good for business. As such, the soft spot in my heart for Evanston is not simply due to fond memories of having once lived there.

Evanston GTQs in the spotlight

Red Hot rideshare magnet zones

Arguably, the whole city can be considered a ride share magnet zone. However, the part of Northwestern campus that faces Sheridan Road stands out. I have received request while miles away from that area. Evanston’s downtown is also a productive place for driverpreneurs.

Off Peak Hour Options

Evanston doesn’t maintain the night time vibe akin to the Wicker Parks and the River Norths of the rideshare world. As a result, I don’t go there at night unless I happen to take passengers that way. However, what Evanston doesn’t offer at night is made up for with a brisk off peak afternoon business. It has provided me more of the lucrative airport runs than any other place in the Chicago region. The superburb is the best place outside of the Loop to get rideshare business between 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m.

Many and the Money

Evanston often allows me to drive a few short trips within town followed by a big $ trip. Two to four trips followed by an airport run or somewhere else out of town puts the rideshare revenues in my pockets. This aspect of Evanston travel is what makes it such a good off peak hour option.

Happenin Housing

One Evanstonian apartment building in particular has provided more airport runs than many whole city neighborhoods that I have served. The Orrington Hilton is a proven hotel option for riders going on good paying trips.

Hyde Park

Hyde Park is marked by its University and diversity. It is home to the University of Chicago. The school’s presence both physical and economical, influence the area. Hyde Park is racially diverse such that no one racial group is a majority of its population. Students, professionals and just plain working folk inhabit its environs thus making it economically diverse.

It is fitting that given this diversity that two of Chicago’s (and America’s) best known coalition builders arose from this south side urban nirvana. Harold Washington, Chicago’s first African-American mayor and President Barack Obama began their ascents to power from a Hyde Park base.

The area’s “go to” qualifiers are diverse as well. The Museum of Science and Industry resides here on the neighborhood’s lake front east border. Also, the South Shore Metra train, a transcendent transportation hub electric rail line that begins in Indiana, has above street level stops in Hyde Park en route to its final Loop destination.

Hyde Park GTQs in the spotlight

Red Hot Rideshare Magnet Zones

The University campus locations particularly along Midway Plaisance, the library and Booth Hall are rider magnets. Hyde Park Boulevard between 51st and 57th Streets is a lucrative zone as well.

Off Peak Hour Options

Classes begin and end throughout the day giving rise to rideshare revenue opportunities. However, it isn’t just students who request us. Hyde Park, Evanston and the Loop are definitely the best places in Chicago to get off peak hour airport runs.

Many and the Money

The many- This is a good place for multiple trips within the confines of the same community.

The Money- Given that Hyde Park is relatively isolated most trips to anywhere outside of it are good revenue trips.

Happenin Housing

A multi-unit apartment building in this area is the single best such place in all of Chicago to pick up rideshare revenue. Furthermore, it's surrounded by other good properties for rider business.

South Loop

The South Loop is an extension/neighbor of the main Loop that borders the lake front. This is a double heaping of go to qualifying characteristics with amenities that driverpreneurs can’t ignore. Business and rider magnet residences abound along with the most concentrated source of featured attractions in Chicago.

South Loop GTQs in the Spotlight

Deep Streets

Lake Shore Drive, Roosevelt Road, Michigan Ave and Cermak Road, lead to and pass through the South Loop area.

Off Peak Hour Options

The region’s featured attractions contribute mightily to its off peak hours allure. People arrive and leave the tourist draw premises throughout the day. Chicago Bears’ games keep it busy on Sundays in season.

Happenin Housing

The extent of multi-unit residential buildings within a stone’s throw of the lake and the area’s tourist offerings is incredible. It offers profitable opportunities for driverpreneurs.

Featured Attractions

The Museum Campus- Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum of Natural History reside here.

Soldiers Field- The home of the Chicago Bears is also a popular venue for concerts. Beyoncé, the superstar recording artist, filled the stadium at her recent concert in 2016. Others have performed there as well.

Streeterville along with the South Loop is among the geographically smallest locales that belong on the deep moat 10 list. However, as with the South Loop what it lacks in size is more than overcome by dq depth.

Streeterville is home to Northwestern University’s Chicago campus which includes the hospital and its esteemed law school. Furthermore, it has a rich real estate resource with at least a dozen additional hotels to those highlighted in the following go to quality assessment. As such, it along with the Loop may well be the most visited Chicago region among the Prime Place 10 locations.

Streeterville GTQs in the spotlight

Deep Streets

Columbus/Fairbanks Ave, Lake Shore Dr, the inner drive, and Michigan Ave course through Streeterville.

Red hot Rideshare Zones

Navy Pier doubles as a featured attraction and a scorching hot rideshare location. In addition, the glut of happenin housing turns whole blocks into rideshare magnets.

Happenin Housing

The Chicago Mariott, Sheraton, The Gwen (formerly the Grand) , Westin, Doubletree Inn, Omni and Intercontinental are a source of repeat business. The happenin housing also includes several residential properties.

Featured Attractions

A sampling of attractions include the Mag Mile, Navy Pier, architectural gems such as the Tribune Tower and John Hancock building, Water Tower and my favorite place to watch movies, the AMC theatre on Illinois Steet.

Driverpreneurs who want to follow the fares need only to go towards Chicago's lake front. It is here that they will find the rideshare cash that they seek.

I have previous experience with driving gigs, so I decided to give it a try. I have not had any frightening encounters with regard to passengers. However, what other drivers do can be down right scary. Thanks for your interest.
