The Comey Affair and Legacy

An End to A Bad Episode

Left and Right and Liberal and Conservative, Trump Haters and Lovers now have closure on a tough time. There was no evidence at all about a Trump Russia collusion. End of story, put a lid on it say good bye and be happy it is over.

Now the most interesting "The Rest of the Story" as our beloved Paul Harvey used to say. Is about calling Comey to testify in the first place.

Any intelligent person would understand Alan Dershowitz is an American treasure regarding our constitution. He is hands down the expert and professor in this field. Those who care listen to him. Make no mistake this man is consulted by the powerful and makes no qualms that he is truly bipartisan. (OK a bit liberal in construction to my tastes)

Weeks ago he told us flat out that no matter what the reason or the bias a president can fire and/or direct how the FBI director acts. President - Boss, FBI director - Employee. Basically that is the end of the story. FBI director serves at the pleasure of the President. The FBI director does not serve you and I. Nope not one bit. He is appointed by and can be fired by POTUS on a whim. It is perfectly legal for POTUS to fire an FBI director for investigating his wife. Again, end of story.

So to the rest of the story. The hearings with Comey were not conducted to find out if he was fired improperly or if he was directed or nudged in anyway regarding an investigation. All those Senators knew that that is totally irrelevant. They dang sure knew what Dershowitz told them. That there was absolutely nothing wrong with POTUS directing how the FBI did their job and/or firing the director if he did not do as directed. In fact it would be insubordination for the director not to do as told.

So why did they call Comey. It dang well was not about obstruction of justice and everyone with any knowledge and intelligence knew this fact. But did they quite grasp the rest of the story.

I Love This Song And This Country

I Am So Proud of My Daughter

And I just can't help it, I am proud of the guy hanging out with her. Presidents deserve our respect.
And I just can't help it, I am proud of the guy hanging out with her. Presidents deserve our respect. | Source

We are in fact, every one of us beholding and bound to our laws. We were the first country to truly become a land that was governed by law and not men. For those who worry about a POTUS being above the law, do not worry. In nearly 250 years we have not fallen to that. We have two other branches of government that will see to it, that does not happen. Congress at all times can investigate and prosecute through impeachment a sitting POTUS. And they can do the politic thing and public thing and not carry it further - impeachment of Clinton and Nixon. Nixon resigned and Clinton carried on.

Please do not worry of such things.

The rest of the story was that senators wanted Comey to testify. They already knew that there was nothing to obstruction and most of them were already briefed in that the investigation into collusion was a done deal and there was nothing at all. So why bring him before them?

Well let us face it, the primary reason was for time in front of the cameras on an event rivaling super bowl audiences both domestic and abroad. But the main reason that they brought the world's worst whimp before congress was to move on. Comey is just the stupider than stupider sacrificial lamb.

Now take it easy. The senators did not do this for the truth of the matters asserted, they did it to get wingnuts to stop putting pressure on them. The crazed Trump hate and kill group was starting to get out of hand.

And secondly the senators needed some other source to say, "hey there is nothing here" because they just could not and keep the far out fringe element from blasting them come next elections cycle.

So it was with a great wink and nod that they served up a man that they knew would try to be a lap dog for both sides. The only person that Comey hurt today was Comey. Well except that he hurt America. He showed the weakest underbelly we have ever aired to the world. Conservatives love to criticize liberal presidents for being weak but what they mean is that they are not warmongering enough. But this man is just plain a weakling. Perhaps the worst indictment is against Obama for appointing him in the first place.

Such a Cute Kid

More guts than Comey?

Check Out This Great Song

News outlets are kind of taking it on the chin. They seem to have gotten the collusion investigation wrong. They lead with so many headlines and cover pieces. It has just got to hurt.

But do not worry they will do fine and keep up the work of the fourth estate.

And I truly hope that even though Comey clearly committed perjury and committed at least two class A felonies admitted to and even professed, that Trump directs the next FBI director to drop the whole issue for the nation. Trump needs to start directing the Justice Department to do as he directs so that our constitution is properly adhered to.

Thank you Mona. I suppose I should update it. I watch no news (except on the elliptical at the gym) I read it minimally. But I love to see a headline and then research it. People are just fascinating.

      Hi Eric,

It was interesting to read about your political views. Your article is very informative and was quite the learning experience for me.

      Brother Eric,

How can you talk religion without talking "gloom and doom" since that is what most religions reveal? The only way I can see to escape it is to ignore most of what religions' texts are seeking to reveal.

My finding is true religious texts reveals two things, 1) an endless cycle to existence which includes how earth's cycle begins and ends along with a glimpse into a non-material civilization's existing half and, 2) how this one began and will end. That is gloom and doom in the eyes of people who doesn't see the whole picture but left and right without a joining point. Using love it is "unconditional," the Bible has the "straight way with a narrow gate" and in Buddhism its "the middle path."

Love is a conspiracy to eliminate attachments and rejections by making all things unconditional. Societal love is actually "hating the freedom of something someone desire to be attached to" and make them dependent in some way upon them. When love is unconditional it eliminates all need to control although it may allow one to voice an opinion concerning the behavior of another but without intending to control.

Sorry dude but I do not follow your gloom and doom stuff. We grow together in my view and pursuant to conspiracy or end of life concepts.

The only conspiracy I see is the one of love.

As a matter of fact, Eric, I forgot to say how constitutionally there are NOT TO BE PARTIES for "my team vs your team," that's why I call my interpretation of the Constitution its "spirit". Yes, I seek the spirit of everything rather than just follow traditional arguments concerning religion and politics, and they can be winners when talking about them, so just because I said "The same with me, Eric," doesn't mean we "believe/feel/think in lockstep" but that those are mostly things I talk about.

When reading my "Hubs" you would see how I see the Bible as being a foretelling of the United States of America's political structure to be the first recognized step terminating this civilization no later 80 years after Israel became a nation in 1948. That is why those are my two most talked about things, everything else in my conversations are about how to survive that end, clarifying how it will happen and how the survivors will need too live in order to keep the cycle going.

Elijah we certainly do not believe/feel/think in lockstep and so I love that about you. Also you move toward personal spiritual responsibility. This is honorable and worthy. Thank you.

Hmm Linda. The two areas I am most intrigued about. And yet I write in the area of religion mostly, but I almost never talk face to face about it. Unless I am asked to.

To me politics is much more like fanatics (fans) in sports. My favorite team vs. yours, yahoo let's talk smack.

Eric, there are some topics that are just too "hot button" -- religion and politics are probably pretty close to the top of the list. We don't always agree, but I will always love you. I'm staying out of this discussion. That doesn't mean that I disagree--like Bill I just prefer to stay out of the fray.

Tim, on that account, especially with the D triple C it has seemed to me that Russian and Russian Gov. is blurry. Spoofing origins is something 16 year old hackers can do. I think that we can safely say the attacks came through RU's space. But I have heard no proof that it came through the Kremlin.

OTOH it is most likely the case.

An interesting read, perspective, and educational. Most I could digest and led to some exploring like learning about Dershowitz. But, some went over my head. The main thing I was interested in was answered by Comey with the first questions of his testimony regard Russia and our elections. I am satisfied. Thanks for sharing, Eric.

Dora, let us make a pact not to pay any more attention. I have a set of the US legal codes that I love to read - very strange I know. But it was that that got me interested. They really should have a 12 step program for folks who follow this stuff more than like maybe 5 days a year. Dora I actually feel kind of mentally dirty getting into it so heavy.

Venkatachari, I hear you. I had my fun now back to cool stuff like love and spirituality and children and family. We have soccer and basketball in a few and I hope some gardening.

I am mixing up a weed killer made of vinegar, lemon juice and biodegradable soap. Wish me luck.

Elijah I am a humble man but yes I have read and studied our constitution as it was a big part of my getting a doctorate in law. I have been blessed to have argued constitutional issues in both state and federal courts - of course a life time ago.

I have several copies in the house but not as many copies as I have of bibles.

This last fall I again was blessed to visit your town and do some research on the constitution. My daughter is a big wig there with a masters in law so we had a blast.

Alright I admit to being a nerd. Who would spend a vacation researching?

It is fine you disagree with me. I would not like you so much if we agreed on all matters - boring.

Bill what I liked about this scenario was that the issues were decided well ahead of time. So it was just political posturing. And that made it fun for me.

Your point is well taken. Nothing is ever really over in politics. But it is for me.

John it was real fun for me. I have a pretty extensive legal background and this matter was pretty simple. So it was fun to look at the politics kind of blurring the lines and the press getting it so wrong.

Nice analysis of the whole issue. But, politics has become a dirty game and it is better to keep aloof from such dirty things unless we are able to clean it and fix it.

Eric, you say "Alan Dershowitz is an American treasure regarding our constitution" but I disagree. Had he been 9/11 would not have gone unpunished for all of these years. In my opinion https://hubpages.com/politics/The-U-S-Constitution... is the most comprehensive analyzation of it and shows that this nation has never lived according to it. If he had been the nation would have been told how the way Trump treated girls made him Unconstitutionally qualified for the United States' President, he is required to have lived an impeccable life prior to his election.

This nation is not governed by "The Supreme Law" of this land with no elections having ever been constitutional, 1) because there is nothing in it to suggest this nation should have parties and 2) because the election process is unconstitutional. How can we be a nation governed by laws when its "Supreme Law" has been ignored in every turn, which gives We The People power over the government?

I hate to ask you this although is is asked in love, Eric, have you even ever read the constitution not to mention studied it?

      Peace Brother

Interesting to see you writing a political post. I stay out of most national political discussions. I can do more good helping in my community and loving my family. I'll leave weightier issues to those who have that desire. I don't, however, think this is over...we differ slightly there...not over by a long shot.

Have a great Friday, my friend.

Thank you for sharing this, Eric. I know a bit about this but haven't followed it much. There doesn't seem to be much interest or concern here in Australia, though I am sure it is a big deal in the US. Interesting to hear some of the behind the scenes workings though.
