Emperor Norquist Comes Undone! Grover: Becoming So Small That He May Drown In His Own Bathtub!

Updated on November 26, 2012

Norquist May Be Losing His Death Grip

Grover Norquist has long advocated for a government so small that he can drown it in his bathtub. Instead, Grover himself may become the actual drowning victim. For years, Norquist has had a death grip on the Republican party. Virtually every Republican candidate for office has signed "The Norquist Pledge", and whether the actual signing took place 20 years ago or yesterday, this self-appointed emperor has insisted that the pledge is for a lifetime. If it is violated, Norquist makes every effort to oust the offender from office. In the past couple of weeks, Norquist and his pledge have been challenged by some key Republicans, including Senator Saxby Chambliss and most recently Senator Lindsay Graham. Norquist's response to Graham, "Ask him if he likes being a senator".

Norquist has claimed he was told by Ronald Reagan to form Americans For Tax Reform. Strangely, no one has ever, to the best of my knowledge, asked him for proof. Probably because Norquist is such a decent, honest guy and would NEVER involve himself in dirty politics...

The Emperor Norquist Will Not Go Quietly

Grover Norquist has never just bowed out gracefully and he will not go quietly into the night. This man, who has often been called the most powerful man in Washington, has never held elected office. He has instead, spent his life lobbying, raking in hundreds of millions of dollars from the donations sent to Americans For Tax Reform. Yes, he is supported by those donations. He makes his living from those donations and when asked, refuses to say just how much he pays himself.

In addition to his 'work', he has been named as a key player in some of our nation's sleaziest scandals. From Iran-Contra, to the gambling scandal that sent Jack Abramoff and nearly a dozen others to prison, to the K Street 'Pay For Play' scandal, and even to the more recent accusations that Norquist has funneled money to and laundered money for Muslim terrorists, Norquist has never been accused of having clean hands.

Whatever Norquist Wants, Norquist Gets...

Grover Norquist wants a small federal government. In fact, Norquist believes the only legitimate job of the federal government is the defense of the nation. Norquist's goal is to starve "the beast" of government so that any and all other government programs are forced to shut down. His goal is not to reduce taxes---his goal is to cripple government, destroy all government programs and to make a living by advocating his views. The government programs he specifically targets? All of them! Not national defense? Gone!

It is about time that some of the pledge signing sheeple are waking up to Norquist's true agenda and realizing that the true agenda is not this country's welfare. They are coming to terms that it is, and always has been, all about Grover...It is time that the emperor's clothes be ripped off and he is exposed for what he truly is: a disgusting, amoral opportunist who doesn't care about this country or it's people.

Finally, Norquist needs to go home and take a bath in that bathtub he loves so much. He is dirty...

We will leave it at that, because you cannot accept facts other than "your" facts. By the way, you have presented no "facts" in your comments to this article, but since you have expressed "your" facts, we'll just leave it there...

Any increase for those who pay nothing would be welcome. The "Bush Tax Cuts" as you term them have been the tax law for over 12 years. So save that Bush crap for someone else. Just belly up to the tax bar and pay your fair share. That includes you if need be. Everyone needs to have a flat tax on their income. Then we have an even playing field. I don't play "envy politics" Jillian.

Are you earning anywhere near the level which will be affected by the proposed tax increase? Over $250,000 per year? If you make that much, a modest increase is warranted. A full 70% of the population agrees with both spending cuts and an increase in taxes on those making over $250K-

Just like I don't vote with my reproductive organs, Frog, you are wrong on this one, too. I pay federal taxes, have no deductions anymore and get no credits. In addition, I pay state income taxes, property taxes, sales tax, gasoline taxes and taxes on all of my utilities.

Cutting spending without raising revenue will not balance the budget- doing it on the backs of the middle class and the working poor is not the answer, in my opinion.

As for the Bush tax cuts, they were meant to be temporary and should probably expire. Right now, however, it is my understanding that if allowed to expire on mid and lower level incomes, it will damage our economy. How much should your Social Security be taxed????

We have had this conversation before- it is much like a broken record, and in no way addresses Grover Norquist's welfare checks...

I have a great idea Jillian for all you tax raisers. I'll let you pay mine. You are probably in the 47% who pay nothing so you can have mine. The ticket is to cut spending and submit a balanced budget. Not sure why you Democratic talking heads don't get it. We can start raising taxes by levying income taxes on all wages earned - PERIOD.

Yes, for far too long it has been Norquist before country, but as I said, he will not go quietly. This is how he makes his living.

It's about time that the GOP begins waking up about Norquist. In essense they have been putting Norquist before country. Disgusting!

Norquist, along with Karl Rove, have had entirely too much power and influence for far too long. These two rats need to go away; to crawl back into the sewers from which they came.

I am shocked that the GOP is actually waking up and reading the election results. Not only are some of them repudiating Norquist, many are actually embracing Immigration Reform. Hopefully the Democrats paly their cards right and not sell out the middle and lower classes. Great Hub, Jillian.
