The Failure Of Barack Obama's Presidency

Updated on March 25, 2017
President Barack Obama
President Barack Obama

Failures Within Obama's Presidency Cost Him Support

Don’t let the title fool you.

Barack Obama’s presidency was far from a failure but there were failures in it.

The biggest failure of Barack Obama’s presidency was his reluctance or his inability to see the need to tout his successes during his time in office.

Contrary to the Republican Party’s spin, President Obama accomplished many things that benefited this country and retrieved it from the depths of a recession that teetered as close to a depression as it could without falling into one.

Those on the right would have you to believe that the bailout of the auto industry was an unnecessary waste of money when in actuality if the auto makers had been left to their own devices they would have collapsed into bankruptcy plunging the country down the deep financial spiral with them while crushing the economy in the process.

President Obama did not tell his success story but instead allowed the Republican spin machine to define the perimeters of his biography and that was a big mistake.

Dow Jones Industrial chart from 2007 through 2016

Spinning Out Of Control

The old saying that “if you tell a lie long enough people start believing it is the truth” is very true in this instance.

Republicans have been saying for eight-plus years that the policies of Barack Obama made the economy worse.

Not true.

When Barack Obama took office America was losing more than 700,000 jobs each month from the job market.

For almost 7 years we have been adding an average of nearly 250,000 jobs each month.

Sound worse to you?

Although there is a need to add closer to 300,000 jobs each month, adding jobs is certainly better than losing jobs but to listen to Republicans you would think we were still losing them.

Barack Obama did not do a good job of reminding Americans what the actual job numbers were.

A failure on his part.

Americans have short term memories as was evidenced by the 2010 mid-term elections in which Republicans were put back in charge of the House of Representatives.

And we have seen how that has turned out.

Obstructionism ruled the day and the government has been in gridlock for the last seven years.

Another major accomplishment of President Obama’s presidency was the killing of Osama Bin Laden.

Bin Laden had been on the run from United States military forces since the 2001 attacks on New York City and Washington D.C.

He had eluded America’s search for him for nearly a decade until his death at the hands of special forces units assigned to capture or kill him.

This feat was achieved on President Obama’s watch but with little mention of it even in the light of the Republican Party’s attacks on his foreign policy decisions.

Republicans were again allowed to shape the discussion around their own talking points while leaving out the facts of the Obama administration’s foreign policy success.

Osama Bin Laden

Shine The Light

Barack Obama ran a good presidential campaign in 2008 and again in 2012 but his public relations campaign during his presidency was lacking.

President Obama needed to realize that telling the story of his accomplishments would not have been bragging or boasting but simply relating the facts in an effort to dispel the lies.

The big mistake made by the president was that he assumed that the American public would notice what he had done not realizing, sorry to say, that a large segment of the population wasn’t even paying attention to what was going on.

In an interview on one of the major networks shortly after the 2010 mid-term elections President Obama himself admitted that he took some things for granted when he assumed the office of president.

He admitted that he did not promote his health care reform as he should have and that leaving that task to his fellow Democrats was a mistake.

But still his realization did not translate to other areas where he could have done a better job of publishing his policies.

President Obama’s problem was that he was a humble man who was not about self-promotion but what he needed to understand was if he did not shape the story of his deeds others would.

And they wouldn’t be doing it in a positive fashion.

Did President Obama do a good job of highlighting his accomplishments?

Read, that is exactly what we independents and moderates say about the Right-wing. I can't image what the liberals are saying.

Yes, know what swamp means. How is trump draining it? In fact, people from bush and obama white house said they would be fired for abusing their position so much.

All of his picks are big biz, big money. Something you all apparently think walk on water.

Public service is a calling. Governing is a learned skill.

Churches have no business in it. Its why they don't pay taxes. As far as i see, trump is trying to replace our republic with a business owner and white christian haven. And not my kind of business, like renewable energyy, but trumps kind: dirty oil and graft. And not my kind of church, like brotherly love, but the inquisition type.

Tired of gvt being pummeled, everyone elses gets a pass.

Jack, I do admire your determination to deal with the individuals who have responded on this post. They make me comfortable Trump will win another term. None of them have a good grip on reality, but can really tell you about their fantasy worlds. Experience has taught me when you get responses from liberals or anyone on the left you can't expect reality or a coherent thought process. Now, let's just sit back and see how these...individuals...respond to this. Good one Jack!

Yes dear, you are mis understanding the term draining the swamp. It applies to people in government, especially Congress and career civil service employees, who are not doing the bid of the American people and in fact going against our wishes and following their donors and special interests in big business-hence the term crony capitalism...

Can you comment, jack, on all the trump cabinet members who use taxpayers for a luxury life style?

And how about trump making money off us for his trump, inc?

How is that draining the swamp?

Jack Lee says "calling people names does not make your case any stronger."

He just doesn't mind when Trump does ALL the name calling, right Jack? Like Calling NFL players SOBs?

Your facts are lies you try to pass off as true. There is waste alright.

Let me provide the waste for you. Stinky Zinke? Travels back and forth from DC to Montana wastefully costing taxpayers $63,000 per trip. And so far he's made over a dozen of those trips on private jets and military planes.

Just like Pruitt and Mnuchin. It also costs taxpayers $65,000 a day that goes right into Trump's pockets every time he stays at Mar-a-Lago because that $65,000 is what HE charges the Secret Service to stay there.

You want more? Sorry but we do not want your Commie Fascist one man one voice only in the White House type government.

Time for you middle aged big mouths to face facts. People like me already paid our taxes for 4 or more decades LONGER than you. Time for you lazy bums to stop thinking you can just sit back on those double wide trailer trash butts while we hand you what we already worked for. No. You can't sit back and earn a CEOs salary for 10 minutes of work. You will never stop me from fighting you and your right wing Fascists who love Neo Nazis. You live in a part of NY State that is totally conservative, down on its knees broke thanks to that fat tub of lard Peter King. You get what you voted for...Republican lies. Too bad I am not falling for yours.

Your boys had the nerve to rant and rave when Nancy Pelosi flew one single flight first class? How dare you bums when your Republicans are living high on the hog on our tax dollars? Give it up little man.

Calling people names does not make your case any stronger.

I do know my facts and have been involved in some local stuff here in Westchester. I know for a fact that there are plenty of corruption and waste and graft at the local level. The reason I am against big government is because they are so ineffective. I would have no problem paying my taxes if things actually inprove. The opposite is true. As governmemt get larger, corruption and waste grows...it is true of local governmemt and same with our federal bureacracy. If you can point to one government agency thst is doing a fabulous job? I like to hear it otherwise keep your biased opinion to your self . Of course you are welcome to contribute as much in taxes as you wish, just don't make the rest of us pay for it.

Note to Jack Lee. You can always check the highest wages in the country at the GAO.gov or the Dept. of Labor. In fact, NY has the country's highest wages.

Your post only proves "dotard" doltage. Here in NJ, you need to earn $42,000 just to afford to pay rent in a one bedroom apartment. Home prices start at around $400,000 for one bedroom, one bath.

No Jack Lee. Nothing at all to do with waste. We get a lousy 55 cents for the $1 WE PAY in federal taxes. Your Republican states get from $1.35 up to Alaska's $1.87 and that doesn't count the Big Oil tax subsidies we in the Dem states don't get every year.

Time for you to stop trying so hard to avoid facts and truth I know "I" can prove and you can't.

If you are not man enough to accept blame, that's no surprise. Your Lard Butt in Chief stood on the White House lawn this week and proclaimed for all the world to hear the very same absolution of blame while he blamed Republicans for not getting his crooked, corrupt bills passed.

Sorry if you can't accept that this is NOT the United States of Republicans and we will never allow that to happen so long as we are contributing big bucks to Republican states.

Do try and get some more education before you post the same drivel over and over and over.

      Progressives, liberals....one you forgot: dems!

Yes, good old fashioned democrats. The true majority of this country.

And good old fashioned republicans, who dont hate gvt like the trump/bannon/putins of the world.

Btw, bannon is a joke. Former wall street exec, working for the billionaire mercers, pretending to be the man of the people revolution...

His revolution is for the 1 of the 1%

And trump is filling the swamp, not draining it.

      Your heros are invisible!

    • jackclee lm profile image

Jack Lee 4 weeks ago from Yorktown NY

      Wow, this is revealing...

So the reason Democratic states make more money is because of high taxes...

Nothing to do with waste and fraud and abuse...and the entitlements...

The very reason our country is in decline, especially in the inner cities, run by Democrats, is why progressives are loosing elections and will continue to loose.

Blaming republicans for problems of your own making, so typical of liberals.

    • Ewent profile image

Eleanore Ferranti Whitaker 4 weeks ago from Old Bridge, New Jersey

The Republican states have no idea just how dependent they are on Dem states. For the past 3 decades, the Dem states have had the highest incomes in the country while the Republican states have some of the lowest.

The reason, especially in the Northeast we need to earn higher incomes is because our taxes are high. Not because of our Dem policies. Because we contribute the lion's share of the federal tax dollars and get zero back in return.

So why should any Dem state contribute to the fed if it all goes only to Republican states?

We can do quite nicely managing our own SS, Medicare, Medicaid, infrastructure and defense if we keep all that federal tax money in OUR DEM states.

We end up paying for roads, highways and transportation out of state funds anyway. By keeping federal tax dollars in the state coffers, we'd be infinitely wealthier than all of the GOP states.

Dem states have always done what was needed to create jobs. Look at the Republican whiner states that whine loudest about job creation. KY, TN, OH, KS, IA, AL etc. All they have are obsolete industries that are dead or dying and they are too lazy to create new ones. All they have are fracking, coal mining and oil, all of which are being soundly overtaken by solar, wind and clean energy.

Why should we contribute to FEMA when Republicans refused to hand over a dime of our FEMA tax dollars we paid when SuperStorm Sandy hit? Why should we hand over federal tax dollars if we have to do it all out of state funds, which by the way is what Trump is hoping to do.

Good. Let's see just how well the Republican states manage with only their state revenues, low incomes and Walmartian jobs.

    • Ewent profile image

Eleanore Ferranti Whitaker 4 weeks ago from Old Bridge, New Jersey

Now we face down what's coming. So, Steve Bannon, Trump's former White House advisor now plans to "get rid of all Republican incumbents." Did he forget to mention that at least a dozen are now at the end of their terms of office and would be replaced anyway?

Then, you take a look at "who" Bannon wants for candidates while he repeats over and over, as Trump does about completely "draining the swamp" and destroying the establishment in DC.

Am I the only one with second sight who see the true meaning in that destruction is government takeover?

Well sure Trump wants to get rid of an established form of government. His belligerant, spiteful, disorganized, unruly behavior is testament to how he does business and why he would love nothing more than no elections, no political parties and absolutely no rules and regulations that protect American lives. But, he does want control over the money we send to his "unstructured" "unestablished" form of government. Most Grifter mentalities do.

The kicker for the right wingers who thoroughly approve of giving Neo Nazis rights to use anti semitic and racial slurs out in our streets while armed with assault weapons we all saw on TV in Charlottesville and which they know hotly deny is their convictions that government is bad and evil.

No. It is what the Founding Fathers created and 44 presidents all understood and Trump and his gaggle of grifters refuse to understand.

We, the people, ARE the government. But when you want autonomous power and the ability to yell "FIRED!" to anyone who disagrees with you, you don't want a simple fact like the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights or Declaration or Independence getting in your way, do you?

Nope. What you want is total control. Control so absolute that no one save your friend and mentor in Russia dares to question.

So let's talk about facts we can all prove with legal documents. Has Obama or Hillary EVER been fined by the U.S. Treasury and FinCEN for money laundering?

Have either Obama or Hillary Clinton EVER had 4400 lawsuits over their lifetimes? Has Obama ever filed hundreds of bankruptcies knowing that taxpayers end up paying for them?

As for failures, the most disgusting, obscene failure of Trump right now is his owing the Puerto Rican government $33 million for the bankruptcy he filed there. (gee where hasn't he filed bankrupcty? Oh right. In Russia where he doesn't dare)

That bankruptcy got dumped on the Puerto Rican American citizens as surely as the 6 corporate bankruptcies Trump dumped on NJ and several in NY.

As always, he fails in business by making wild, outrageous and mostly unreliable plans to build golf courses, hotels and casinos.

In Puerto Rico, it was the Rio Grande Golf course. Nice that he managed to get his ultra right wing billionaire media mogul, Murdoch to keep that one from going viral, right?

Obama is respected and admired worldwide. We don't even have to go farther than Canada to prove that. When Trump's big mouth instigated WW3 with North Korea, it was Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who played ref with Kim Jung Un to diffuse a Trump hoped for nuclear war.

And just how do right wingers reconcile that fact that ALL 44 past presidents have NEVER said or done the most embarassing things to their country that this lump of lard has?

The right wing knows Obama is a hugely intelligent, hugely successful man. Their KKK ancestry doesn't allow any bi racial or minority the privilege of "owning" their successes. After all, these big babies feel that makes them "look bad." Too late for that. If Tillerson, Sessions, Chao, Price, Pruitt and Bannon are all you have to compare Obama to, why even bother?

Obama has numerous times tried to close gitmo. Congress refused to issue the money to do it.

Like i said, you never consider anything but the neocon front story. I geuss you didnt read about the prisoners having used tampons thrown at them, their korans thrown in the toilet, walking around with sensory deprivation bags on their heads, the forced feeding, which has been called torture. You also dont know that people were being paid to accuse people whether they were part of terrorist orgs or not. Gitmo is a blight on anything decent, and illuminates the sadistic tendencies of the military and the gop.

By all measures, gitmo was a clean and well run camp.

The reason we have it is because we have no other place to keep them. In cases where the combatants were sent to Egypt and else where, the prisoners were treated much worse...

      Here is the report -

The Final Report of the Guantanamo Review Task Force, dated 22 January 2010, published the results for the 240 detainees subject to the review: 36 were the subject of active cases or investigations; 30 detainees from Yemen were designated for "conditional detention" due to the poor security environment in Yemen; 126 detainees were approved for transfer; 48 detainees were determined "too dangerous to transfer but not feasible for prosecution".

If it was as bad as you say or the UN...why didn't President Obsma issue an executive order to close it? He did just about every other order including the dreamers DACA.

    • lovemychris profile image

Yes Dear 5 weeks ago from Cape Cod, USA

I disagree with your bias. You believe everything the neocons tell you, never bothering to consider any other pov. I did consider other pov's, and i listened. Gitmo is an evil place, like all neocon muslim-torturing policies we support. Obama was right to want to close it. Blood is on bush. Now trump, as we know on which side he comes down.

      Cheneys "dark side" returns.

    • jackclee lm profile image

Jack Lee 5 weeks ago from Yorktown NY

Your bias is showing. Both administration, Republican and Democrats have concluded the necessity of Gitmo. Where else are you going to keep these terroist sympathizers?

This narrative about gitmo being a recruitmnt tool for ISIS is false and shameful...

Obama knew better and still kept up the lie...and put all of us at harm by releasing many of these detainees. Many have teturned to the battle field to fight another day. Blood is on his hands.

    • lovemychris profile image

Yes Dear 5 weeks ago from Cape Cod, USA

I want to close gitmo too. Unless we use it to send the trump treason team there. Lets set the poor innocents who were sold into gitmo free and make room.

Im hearing its 45 traitors and counting.

Real crime. Real harm to usa. The fact theyre white republicans wont help them.....this time

Honestly, this whole experiment is a fiasco. We are people who are gulfs apart in values, beliefs, basic core principles. Every time we elect someone, millions are angry, disappointed and feel estranged from their country.

I dont know what the answer is. You would think a philosophy of live and let live as long as you dont hurt others or break the law would suffice. But it doesnt.

People are determined that everyone live as they see fit, and thats all there is to it.

I was thinking we should have blue america and red america...separate federal gvts.

Because the twain shall never meet. And its deteriorating to where its poisonous.

Myself am grateful to live in a blue state. Although we have a republican gvr and i really like him. They would crucify me in the bible states, for being pro choice and in an interacial marriage.

And really, who the heck are they to crucify anyone for anything????

Who died and made fellow citizens god?

And they seek to legislate their beliefs as the way for us all.

Split us up. That would be my answer.

That makes no sense. Are you saying the small states vote in unison? They all want one candidate, while larger states want another?

What does it matter what state anyone lives in? One person/one vote.

Besides, im under the impression small slave states wanted their one vote to count for more because slaves werent considered men and couldnt vote.

We wont even mention the fact that women were property of men.

Black people are not slaves now. They vote. Women vote. Small states dont need special treatment anymore. Enough of this placating white men!

While I agree with your sentiment, Yes Dear, I do have to agree with the last post from Jack.

How to elect the president was put off to the very end by our nations founders (the author's of the Constitution and a few others who couldn't attend). They had settled on three broad outlines:

      1. Election by the legislature (State and/or Federal)

      2. Popular vote

      3. The Electoral College

For the reason Jack stated, the electoral collage was picked.

    • lovemychris profile image

Not true. It was established for the baby slave states so theyd stay in the union.

I agree to a point. The electoral college system was devised so that the mere majority would not always get their say. A large state with a large population will always dominate the smaller states. The electoral college allows for the smaller states some stakes in the outcome.

    • My Esoteric profile image

My Esoteric 6 weeks ago from Keystone Heights, FL

Let's test your logic, Jack. Assume for the moment there are 1,000,000 people in one state and 1 person in each district of the other 49 (assume 50 districts per state). The large state goes for the D while the R gets the electoral college votes from the remaining 49.

If you look at the electoral map of this hypothetical, the map would be a "sea of red", wouldn't it? Finally, assume the vote in the one state went 70/30 for the D while it went 70/30 for the R in the other states.

Well your logic says that the best candidate would be the one who got the 301,715 votes while the worst candidate received 700,785 votes. Do you still stick with your logic which says the R, who only got 30% of the total vote is the who the people really wanted? (For logic to be valid, it must be true even in extreme cases, don't you agree?)

    • jackclee lm profile image

Jack Lee 7 weeks ago from Yorktown NY

The answer is simple. We have a Constitution that is predicated on the electoral college system. It is not based on popular vote as it was designed. Just because she won the popular vote in a few blue states with large population, does not make her the best choice. Look at the electoral map by districts and you will see a sea of red. That is our country like it or not.

Sorry Jack. The facts are not yours to change. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 2.6 million more votes than Trump. How in the last hour of the election even with Hillary ahead in the Electoral College votes did Texas manage to put Trump over the line?

Did you watch the SC hearing when TX, VA and NC ALL got reamed over redistricting maps that handed them increases in their electoral college votes? They did that by CHEATING. According to the SC, these 3 states were guilty of violating voting rights by deleting DEM districts or by overlapping them into GOP districts which increased the number of electors. Don't you dare tell me you men don't cheat. Every one of you wants a gangster in the White House because you are birds of a feather.

You are just as arrogant as Trump. Trump has NO Policies. How on earth do you miss that? The only policies you fall for are the ones he uses to be a world class Grifter.

Why is he bashing Puerto Rico? Do you homework. He dumped a $25 million bankruptcy on the Puerto Rican government for that Rio Grande Golf Course he planned to build and then backed out of just like he did in NY City over that old Commodore Hotel. The City handed Trump $2 million dollars for the renovation with the stipulation that he would turn over 2% of every dollar of profit the new hotel earned. He kept 2 sets of books and his moron CPAs claimed there was no profit. Until NYC sicced the IRS on Trump and his liar CPAs.

He pulled the same stunt here in NJ. Dumped 6 bankruptcies on the state after refusing to pay the union contractors who built his hotel.

I would rather romance a boa constrictor than that old Grifter dog in the White House.

Hey Jackie ...Obama didn't leave a mess. Some reason your gangster president only chooses billionaires who spent $25,000 a pop to fly on private jets?

You can deny deny deny deny till the cows come home. But, the optics don't lie. Obama put this country BACK on the road to financial stability.

Did Bush 43's TARP help? NO. It was a major failure because there are still 2 major banks who owe YOU as a taxpayer money they took from TARP loans?

How is it that ARRA Obama's loan program was not only paid back in less than 18 months but paid back with interest?

Time for you to grow up little boy. Obama is the most respected and admired president around the world.

No such thing as a Republican state? BS..If I called Ole Mutton Chops McConnell's KENtuckee, a Democratic state, he'd lop off my head.

The Republicans calls the states they live in Republican states. Try calling NC a Democratic state and see if they don't show the Stars and Bars where the sun doesn't shine for you.

Detroit has nothing nothing nothing nothing to do with Flint Michigan. What the hell are you saying? That Flint Michican IS Detroit?

Flint MI is the city that has 6 to 12,000 children who were knowingly exposed to lead in their water when Governor ASShat Snyder decided all on his own to switch to water that comes from the Flint River and not the Detroit River which is treated at a water treatment plant. Flint River water is untreated.

As for TX...I am not wrong ...Check with AP if you want facts, dipwad...not FUX News.

"Republican states like Alaska get $1.87 for the $1 they pay in federal taxes. "

There is no such thing as a Republican state.

"Detroit doesn't EVER make the decisions on where city water is purchased. That is up to the city's council and the state."

Now you're catching on. The city is run by Democrats and has been for years, yet you insist on blaming the Republican governor. Think it through. I know you can do it.

"TX has just passed legislation passing off their portion of the cost of cleanup for BP to the Republicans in the House who are all ready to approve it."

Still wrong, semantically and factually, but keep repeating it and someone will believe you.

nincomp0op...Wrong. That money was NEVER borrowed by Democrats from Congress. Are you deliberately refusing to accept responsibility for the Bush 8 years of Tea Party slash and burn?

You can check the stats on how much Republicans receive from the federal taxes we all pay through our states. Republican states like Alaska get $1.87 for the $1 they pay in federal taxes. Texas gets $1.72. That means when they pay the state taxes that go to the U.S. Treasury and then to pay U.S. bills like that $350 billion Halliburton made off with in profit for Iraq, it is returned through the decision of the House of Reps. When Republicans have the majority, 65% of every budget contains federal tax dollars that pay out to Republican states. No one can be this stupid...not even a dumbo like you.

Detroit doesn't EVER make the decisions on where city water is purchased. That is up to the city's council and the state. When Snyder received 3 emails from his on Michigan Dept. of Water Quality warning HIM that the water had lead in it, he ignored it. Now, the EPA is looking into just how the local LEPC (Local Environmental Protection Commission) of which every town or county is responsible to have, managed to fudge the records of Water Quality to the EPA in DC.

Since I and not you, worked with environmental engineers for nearly 25 years, the EPA and our state DEP, you are out of your league trying to tell me what compliance regulations are and what the 1974 Clean Water Act Bush tried to get rid of in 2004 imposes. the CWA clearly states that water quality must be monitored and reports provided to the state LEPC, state MDEQ and the EPA in DC.

TX has just passed legislation passing off their portion of the cost of cleanup for BP to the Republicans in the House who are all ready to approve it.

Don't you EVER stop your lying?

I assume you are asking rhetorically : that money was borrowed by Democrats in Congress. It's in the National Debt.

"Then, you get MI, a state now expecting the rest of us to help with lead cleanup after their asshat (sic) Governor ignored warnings since 2014 about lead in the water"

Democrat city council in Flint, Democrat Emergency City Manager in Flint, Democrat city council in Detroit who caused the problem by cutting off the water to Flint before the agreed-upon date... and you blame the (Republican) governor. No surprise there.

"Now TX is expecting taxpayers to pay for the BP spill costs?"

Most Americans loathe freeloader conservatives. It's our states that get dumped on by these freeloading lazy butts.

Take Iowa and Kansas, both states had to shut down schools before the official end of the school year...Why? They ran out of money. Next on their hit list? Hospitals. Now..do the math...Each of these states takes in $1.35 or more for the $1 they pay in federal taxes. Where the hell is that money?

Then, you get MI, a state now expecting the rest of us to help with lead cleanup after their asshat Governor ignored warnings since 2014 about lead in the water. Now, 6 to 12,000 children in that state have been exposed to lead. Why? Well, Governor Asshat thought it was better to get the water from the Flint River which has NO water treatment plant than to pay the extra cost of water from the Detroit River that DOES have a water treatment plant..That's CONservatism for you...make a mess and everyone else has to pay to clean it up.

Look at what Texas is trying to pull off...the same BS Bush pulled in 2008 when he dumped 50% of the cost of the then 27 year old Exxon Valdez spill fine on taxpayers. Mind you, in that 27 years the CON boys were sucking up huge profits by price gouging at the pump whining how they just HAD to raise gasoline prices to pay for the Valdez fine..which they never paid ONE dime for until Big Oil Bush the Tush Face rigged 2 elections to make sure all of his oil cronies got nice fat tax subsidies.

Now TX is expecting taxpayers to pay for the BP spill costs? Shove it Cowboys...you made those decisions and it is long past time you screw ups stopped freeloading off our tax dollars. But..THAT is the kind of CONservatism men like lovehimselfchris and nincompoop think is such a wonderful ideology..Course they do..they pay nothing and we do all the paying.

And that something new would be what? A bunch of Twerpie Generation attack dogts making their lives easier by destroying what others spent decades paying for?

The problem today is you have a younger, very foolish YOLO mentality generation of Twerpies. They hate the idea that they have to pay dues in this life in order to earn the rewards of their labors. In fact, they hate the word "work." To them the only work they want to do is "texting" morning, noon and night any time, any where they please.

If the Kardashian dippies are any example of obscene waste of life, you can see how these Twerpies would manage a government of 350 million plus Americans.

You've had 7 years of Republican Conservatism imposing mindless austerity on the very working class that makes their lives easier. They have ZERO respect for employees and less respect for the older, wiser, more experienced generations. They want it all and they want it now.

Sorry, life isn't that easy. You want it? Your get out of bed every day 5 days a week at 5 AM and rush off to your job. You don't text at your job all day long and expect a paycheck. Work ethic is not one of the Twerpie Generation's strong suits.

If you work hard and keep your focus on your direction, you accomplish your goals. If you whine, moan and groan all day, live in a world of doom and gloom and spread misery, you are your own worst enemy.

As for control freaks, these are the easiest to take down. They are single minded individual for whom controlling others is an addiction.

Case in point....the Right Wingers are now acting shocked that we would make a big deal about Cruz being born in Canada.....after 9 years of them saying Obama is not the real president because he was born in Kenya. Lead by Ted Cruz! The real "suddenly" is that suddenly it doesnt matter.

This is irrational behavior. Just as claiming guns dont kill people, and hence need no regulating. It is impossible to reason with irrationality. It is impossible to compromise with "my way or the highway", which has become right wing mantra.

Perhaps, some very jaded, disgruntled Americans need to recall that men died for democracy. Men in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WWI, WWII and Viet Nam. Do we tell these men it was all foolishness?

Democracy is freedom. It is not a failed attempt at anything but equality for all. What you have now are mindsets that want to control others. That never works as German, French, Spanish, British, Russian and Italian history have shown.

Those who seek the most control are always always always toppled by their own egos.

The US has always tried to steer a straight path. Those who didn't ended up paying the price of their misguided ideologies and corruption.

We cannot just dissolve the Union...what would it be replaced with? Anarchists taking over the streets with Mraps and armed like Rambo?

Nothing savors freedom like democracy. There are times in life when you have to fight the good battle for those things we all hold dearest: our freedom. Anything less is cowardice.

What I see today are people who live so far in the past, they still fly a Confederate Flag that even their revered St. Robert E. Lee demanded be retired and placed in a museum. He also demanded that NO rebel attend his funeral in Confederate uniform. This is documented in several bios by well known Civil War historians. But, the Confederates who still think they won the Civil War, still hate that they can dump their dirty work on free slave labor and can't enjoy a Plantation Nation cannot accept that this is 2016. Not 1850.

What these sharecropper mentalities can't stand is that they now have to work at all. It was so much easier when Big Daddy Plantation Owner handed them a scrap of land and they could beat daylights into plantation slaves. DogPatch Lil Abners and Daisy Maes don't like to work for a living.

And, just as they depended on the Yankees who beat them senseless in the Civil War, they still depend on Yankee tax dollars to keep them from having to get out of bed before noon or earn a living wage. So now we have a nation of Rebel Walmartians. People who hate any changes to their lives particularly when it means working as hard as Yankees do every day.

Actually, the more Republican politicians defy federal laws and refuse to acknowledge their obligation to the federal government, the closer they grow to sedition.

The Republicans, right wing, anarchists and neocons know that the longer they keep all Americans divided, their "Divide and CONQUER" quest is still very much a possibility.

That is, until the states paying the most to support freeloader Republican states realize we are tapped out and refuse to be a part of their Plantation Nation.

Their idea is to oppress their "enemies" with slash and burn tactics they think keeps everyone under their control. They operate on the "Force is with You" premise. They will force and everyone will just bow down to their whims of mindlessness. So they think.

There is one court fools always forget. It's the court of public opinion. It has brought down men like Nixon, Reagan and both Bush presidents, not to mention the repulsive Cheney and by association Nanny Rice and Rumsfeld. None of whom dare set foot outside the US these days.

There is no "us" as Americans. There's us and them. This should be clear after the Republicans refused to respect our vote, nullified it, and ruined everything.

There are Republicans, who won't do anything unless they approve, and there is the rest of us.

There is no coming together, never will be, and the best we can do is dissolve the 50 states, and split as 25/25.

North States of America and South states of America...something like that.

Or, just have every state as its own individual entity...

I don't know. I only know the Right and Left will never get along, and its beyond done fighting! We are wasting precious time.

If they refuse to accept the decision of the electorate.....what is the point?

Just get away from each other and be done with it.

I certainly am not going to bend to their fanciful, ridiculous will.

    • profile image

James King 32 22 months ago

If sowing discord among the nation was Obama's priority then he certainly is not a failure. Black lives matter is a racist group bent on taking down the American civilization.( They aren't the only group in this mind set, like "Underground Weatherman", Communism, Black Panthers, White Supremacists, KKK, Nazi, ET.) That is what a community organizer does. He promotes discord upon the state and uses the power for that groups purpose. If the group is ordained by God (like MLK) there is unity, if not discord.

Martian Luther King would never agree to this type of rhetoric and action. If Americans can't come together and solve these problems we will not be America any more. All left to do is bend over and kiss it good bye!

If people want to find unity in this country they have to realize that it can only come from what MLK stood for: peace, honesty, understanding, goodness, self control, and faith that we can forgive and move forward.

The problem is that "the powers that were", were paid off by the sowers of discord to lead a people from slavery, to segregation, to the social injustice of welfare.

Now we see the seed flowering. The SCLC has melted into the background. The SCLC instead of taking up the mantle of MLK let anger deconstruct the peaceful integration the good doctor was seeking.

Let me say that the SCLC is NOT the problem. Given the same circumstances I might have done the same thing. Without the MLK courage times were tough. I am sure that is why an enemy of a peaceful America took him down.

The destruction is coming from both political parties and the taking down of America is the goal. So rather than sharing in the prosperity, safety and goodness of this great nation, we tear at each other like a family being raised in the Ghetto. The politics of Obama (not he himself) is the politics that tear us apart at the heart. The Republicans aren't much better. We have to decide: are we going to save the Republic, or are we going to melt off into the rest of the worlds tyrannical ideology thru either dictatorship or mob rule democracy. It is truly up to us as Americans.

      Vote DR. Ben

You know why you lazy Corn Pone Queens and Dixie Belles hate this president...he is smart than your Mutton Chops and Corn Pone King Big Daddies. He's smarter than you can ever be.

YOur post just shows how stupid and moronic right wingers really are. When Bush left office 8 million people were jobless. Right now, the national debt is lower than it was when Reagan was president.

So do tell us Debbie Belle Corn Pone ...what can you prove in a court of law that President Obama lied about that we CAN prove in a court of law Bush lied about for 8 years?

Are your pants on fire tootsie...that figures.

Ever notice how it's always the Corn Pone Kings and Queens and the Mutton Chops and Dixie Belles who hate this president and can't find a single thing he has done right?

Ever notice how THEY rewrite Bush's history? Bush's Daddy's history? Reagan's history? Nixon's history? for that matter Hoover's history?

They can't admit what is as plain to the rest of us ...they are bigots and basically the US's biggest freeloaders. Scott Walker? The Wisconsin Cheese Doodle? The Arkansas Benghazi Obsessor Trey Gowdy? And how about that other Middle Aged Twerpie Generation Tea Party Thug "Paul I Think Speak of the House Means I'm President Ryan?"

Add the nut freaks of the right to this mix and you see why they HAVE to slash and burn, sequester, shut down government...How else can they get the biggest bang for the $1 their mutton chops and corn pone states get? Check the last GAO report...every southern and midwestern state gets a return of $1.35 to $1.87 for the $1 they pay in federal taxes.

Compare that to the Dem states that get an average of 55 cents for every dollar we pay. Who's supporting whom here? But, they are the first to hate idea they have to get real jobs...not the ones in Big Oil they work at part time at barely above minimum wages or their Walmartian jobs that force them to eat up welfare tax dollars.

Which, by the way, Corn Pones and Mutton chops, do explain why, if your regressive states are getting so much for the $1 you pay in taxes YOUR states rank highest in welfare recipients and people on SSDI.

President Obama has saved your butts from the disaster your little Bushie and Herr Cheney got us into...$350 billion in profit for Iraq for Halliburton, Former CEO Cheney's favorite no bid contractor.

Not to mention we are still paying off those debts for Iraq that cost us $6.7 trillion..How's that for history?

As for Scott Walker Chief Cheese Doodle in Wisconsin...he's no prize. Without massive federal tax dollars to support him, the WI cheese doodles would end up like they did back in the 30s....living in tents.

Way to try to rewrite history!

Leave it to the mind numb robots you lead. The plantation is the Democratic Party. If you knew history you would know that. But it is hard to argue with someone that distorts the facts.

Roxanne...Wrong. From 2004 to 2008, the US Dept. of Labor recorded a loss of 8 million jobs. As for people on food stamps, check again which states have the highest records of welfare and food stamps...all except one, Maine are Republican states.

The race card is out of control...by bigots who have yet to leave the Plantation mentalities behind. These are the white sharecroppers who still believe their GOP poltiicians, hate any changes to their way of living since the Plantation days and refuse to pay their own way.

The cost of my healthcare insurance rose in direction proportion to the rise in the number of Republican states who allow their reisdents to use ERS like a doctor's office and then dump the cost of YOUR healthcare on my premiums.

So, tell us...how does a Harvard MBA like Bush miss the Sept. 2008 Financial Meltdown and 8 million out of work in the 8th year of his presidency.

Women like you think an MRS degree is validation of your gender and are so financially dependent that you automatically assume having to pay for your own healthcare insurance is bad. Your post is just more right wing rabid bigotry. When Cory Booker becomes president, will you complain about his skin color too? Or do you Dixie Belles and Corn Pone Queens all mouth Big Daddy's words?

First off, I am not a Republican, nor a Bush backer. He wasn't my first choice. Second, although I wasn't totally behind him, but I have to give him credit for his fiscal policies-

Until the Housing/Banking crash of September 2008. (The end of his presidency). The problem he had was not vetoing the Democrats bills and governing the way he did in Texas. It showed no intuition or foresight into the economic blunders this would cause. Although HUD has plundered for many years it came to a head in 2008 causing the market to crash. But, my point is that it was the Housing Bill put forth by the Democrats that caused the problem.

The economy had survived, 9/11, Katrina, the gulf oil spill, the Clinton downturn at the end of his presidency, and the Iraq Aphganistan wars. The crash of 2008 took the economy in a different direction, but Dems had both houses and the presidency.

It should have recovered in two years.

Reagan did it in two years with a hostile congress. We still haven't seen a legitamate turnaround - the blame keeps rolling along with this false narrative.

      These are indisputable facts.

There was no rewriting history when it comes to the Bush failure and unemployment. Your own US Dept. of Labor warned in 2003 of a loss of jobs in the US due to outsourcing, offshoring and downsizing. By 2008, the DOL report showed 8 million Americans were out of work. What reason would Bush have to try and deny what Americans knew were facts?

First of all, anyone who distorts facts and says that Obama's presidency is a failure has a very convenient memory. The Financial Meltdown occurred in Sept. 2008. It was in every paper and media source in the country. The mortgaging flim flam began in 2002 and by 2008, saw over 2 million foreclosures and by 2008, taxpayers bailing out the Big 6 US banks...with TARP. Troubled Assets Relief Program is what Bush called it then...but it was another GOP Gestapo scam to empty the US treasury and hand it to Big Business as the GOP is so famous for doing since Harding was in office.

The arrogance of the anti-Obama slugs can easily be portrayed in a more realistic light. What if President Obama ignored the fact that TARP was not doing a whit of good and had to create ARRA which brought not only the US economy back on its feet but with interest. TARP still has 2 corporations who have yet to fully pay off their TARP bailouts. ARRA was paid with in 18 months with interest.

Perhaps, conservatives know they are losers who are basically math challenged when it comes to spending on Halliburton and Blackwater for Iraq...a $6 trillion war we didn't need but Cheney's Halliburton did in order for Cheney to pay back those campaign donations of Halliburton.

There is NO need to rewrite the history of President Obama. Since Mitch McConnell, in March 2009, declared, "We wil GET RID of Obama," the GOP Gestapos have sought to override this president any low slimeball way they can.

Anybody can be good when you rewrite history . If you calculate the same way as Bush was calculated unemployment would be 11%. Deficit has doubled from the beginning of his presidency to the projected end. (THATS ALL PRESIDENTS COMBINED -DOUBLED IN ONE PRESIDENCY! ). American Prestige has been taken from us, as we lose our sovereignty, bowing to the world's authority. Bad has become good- good has become bad.

Just look at the arrogant falsities in some of these statements above. People accept the narrative for truth as they deceive the unthinking masses while the folks are caught up in the materialistic pleasures the world has to offer.

What the GOP has done to their own party is disgusting. It's kind of amusing they never saw the end result of their pandering to Charles and David Koch, Adelson or Rove until its too late.

Now, Fox News linked to owner Rupert Murdoch, an ultra conservative, is allowing the Koch boys to choose from the Fox polls which GOP candidate will be acceptable for the GOP debates.

This, of course, has every GOP candidate who has already declared up in arms or sidling up to the Koch billions. This is government "of the people, for the people, BY the people?'

Obama is good for a modern America CEO. Republicans are off the deep end. That's a given. However, these numbers are only loosely related to Washington policy. The economy has its own complicated story that directly impacts these indicators.

The fact that Obama is so reluctant to brag up his successes is why so many people rise to his defense and do it for him. No, he's not the Messiah. No we don't worship him. We just think he is a very successful, competent, and smart president who inherited a worse situation than any other president since FDR.

And somehow, despite Republicans working against him at every turn, he has managed to make things better in every possible way. We are safer, healthier, employment is up, the economy is expanding, we have fewer soldiers, sailors and airmen in harms way, and we have regained the respect we lost in the international community during the Bush years.

I am not Democratic or Republican. but if people are to uninformed and lack any common sense to vote for obvious change in a positive way. A third party would make them worst then dumb. These people got paid to do nothing for 8 years and they think they are important. They could disappear and we would not notice a difference. The American voter is the last thing that could ever represent them. Since they do not represent the voters, why the hell are we even bothering to vote any way?

For 8 years, we had their crud shoved down our throats. Then for the next six, they obstructed what we voted for. Now they are back in shoving mode, as if no one else in the world existed.

I find it insane that anyone would believe that Obama had anything to do with the recession. Him and every other politician prior to his election created that ship wreck and did nothing to prevent it. Obama care a false name was approved before he was elected and took quite a few Republicans to pass at the time. This Congress has done everything to prevent anything from passing and the answer is to elect more Republicans. I think people vote the opposite of the party that is President at the given time and have no clue who to blame. Dissatisfied vote for the other party and be dissatisfied again in a few more years. In two years the deficit will hit its limit then what are they going to do? Increase the deficit again or make the really hard decisions such as No more tax cuts, no more loop holes and have big Corporations actually pay taxes. If you appeal so called Obama Care what are they going to do with all that money they have forced everyone to pay? There big agenda is Obama Care, Benghazi and the Key Stone pipeline. We have an oil glut, low fuel prices and global warming. Why would we need tar sand the dirtiest form of oil recovery in the World, which is the reason for the pipeline in America? The issue is not the pipeline, its the fact the that once it crosses your front yard they could careless what happens to you. Benghazi is old news and is a ruse against Hillary and it holds no water. They are all up in arms about the IRS but the NSA is recording all their phone calls and that's not a problem. I can definitely see why only 33 percent of the population bothers to vote. The once already voting are so dumb that they do not want to be anything like them. No actual representation, the topics of the day are so far removed from most of us and meaningless that playing them daily on television is a complete waste of everyone's time. The one only thing proven is that this country is racist and your top leaders are the biggest racist and that was their number one reason to keep Obama from passing any legislation. I am ashamed of my country and have no faith that it will be anything better tomorrow. The rich will stay rich and will only get richer and the dumb voters will keep claiming the other party will fix it.

Wil C we can't afford "might". This is what wealthy individuals have been doing for years. Teasing the American people then drawing back their resources. We need commitment not wishful thinking.

You cannot fix a broken leg with mumbo-jumbo.

It takes actual work and healing.

What is going on is DUE to the policies the rich people (corporations) in this country-- with help from the Money-policy gvt (R and Blue Dog Dem) gvt have laid on us.

The wealthy have been given the world here in America, and they don't give a hoot for it!

Make it lucrative??? They pay 13.9% tax on 45 mil!! What more do you want?

They have had 9 years of tax cuts, de-regs, please please please mommy, don't leave. And guess what kid, they left.

Personally, I don't WANT them here! Go to Switzerland or Cayman islands and live with your money!

We need people here who care about their fellow human beings on this earth. ALL beings for that matter. There are a multitude of places in the world that cater to rich people and all their needs. Heck, Dubai is tax free!! Masters and servants.

America is to be a place that will form a more perfect union, not a feudal middle ages redux.

And that goes for religion too. Keep it in your personal life where it belongs. That's another middle age policy we can let go of.....HELLO! It's 2012.

I don't want to hear it anymore. Profit is not King in America.

Liberty and Justice for all is.

Lovemychris, I am simply stating what is happening. Jobs are still no where to be seen. Outsourcing is still not being addressed with policy. The deficit is out of control. Real healthcare reform would address the cost of health care. Entitlement reform would deal with how little is actually paid in versus what is paid out, especially with the graying of the nation. So lets put this in the simplest terms possible. If you continue to make it difficult for the wealthy to invest and turn a good profit, they will not invest. If you give them an environment that appears lucrative, they might.

    • lovemychris profile image

Yes Dear 5 years ago from Cape Cod, USA

It IS Bush! To coin a phrase: "It's the policies, stupid." (NO-I am not calling anyone stupid, before anyone reports reports reports!!!)

CBO: Allowing Bush-era tax cuts to expire on the wealthy = $950 billion deficit reduction http://post.ly/91LIz

And let's not forget the 32 billion stashed in foreign banks. We don't HAVE a deficit problem! We have a GREED problem.
