The Fake Senate Impeachment Trial of President Trump

Updated on December 22, 2019

The impeachment ball is more or less in the Republican controlled Senate that has a monumental decision to make, either have a real trial or a sham fake trial that the American people will observe.

Many Republicans have already declared how they stand and will vote. They have already stated that if the presiding judge overrules their vote, they will vote to override the judge's decision. The Democrats, on the other hand, did adopt the two charges of Abuse of Power and Obstruction against President Trump. It all went down party lines as expected. Now, Pelosi is withholding these charges before relinquishing them to the Senate for the trial until the Republicans assure everyone that a real, fair, trial, will proceed in the Republican controlled Senate.

That assurance will be hard to believe from the Republicans. What does a fair, trial look like?

  • Each side able to call witnesses in their defense or prosecutions
  • Release of any documents requested
  • No immunity to any witnesses
  • An impartial judge

What does a sham or fake trial look like?

  • No witnesses allowed
  • No documents are made available to either side
  • Only certain approved witnesses are available
  • The judge's authority is limited by internal House rules approved by the majority
  • No loyalty to the oath given to Senate members of being impartial and fair
  • The judge's decision can be overruled by a vote of the Senate

While the impeachment trial is political in nature, it still should be held like a real trial where the American people can see both sides of the charges, the evidence, the questioning of key witnesses by the prosecution and defense, and the judge making a determining decision that cannot be overruled because the controlling party does not like it!

In this case, the controlling and majority party responsible for the trial is the Republican held Senate. If the Republicans do anything less than what a fair and real trial is, the American people will know it for a sham and fake trial and done just to protect Trump and quickly end it as the 2020 Presidential race begins.

A fake trial will rally even more Democrats, Republicans unhappy with Trump, and independents when the vote takes place in November, 2020. A real trial will have the impact of mitigating Republican disenchantment with Trump and could help him in the election.

Nothing is more obvious and blatant than a fake trial that leaves a disgusting after taste in the minds of Americans.
