The Future of America – What Can be Done to Improve the State of the Nation

Updated on October 6, 2013

This country has been through some very tough times in recent years. We have seen disasters, mass shootings, political turmoil and terrorism affect our great nation. As a country we weathered the storms, but the storms have caused a substantial amount of damage to the foundation of our house. This country has not come together to fix the damage that has been done, instead we place a band aid over the damage and expect the water not to seep in and destroy our home. There are major repairs that need to be done to get this nation back on track and the only way we can begin to fix the damage is to acknowledge the problems that need to be fixed. It is time for all Americans to get involved to fix the many problems we have. Many of us do not take responsibility for the part we have taken in causing the damage that has been done. We would like to blame others for the reason we are in the situation we now find ourselves in. The problems we have in this country have been self-inflicted. Somewhere along the way the goals we set for this country have been lost in greed, selfishness and lack of empathy for your fellow Americans.

I truly believe that we do not have to continue down this path of self-destruction. There are things that we all can do to begin the road to recovery.

POLITICIANS SHOULD BE HELD REPSONSIBLE

We have to remember that WE THE PEOPLE, elect these politicians to work on our behalf. We expect them to go to Washington and do the job they are paid handsomely to do. There is definitely something wrong when you see hard working Americans out of work because the politicians are more interested in treating this nation’s problems like a chess game. The problem with that is that in the end there are no winners of this game. The people who vote and elect his politicians can let their voices be heard by voting these politicians out of office. When the next election rolls around, please don’t forget what these politicians have done to so many people in this country. They should be held responsible for the huge mess they have created and the many lives they have ruined because they CHOOSE to ignore what the American people have to say. I think most Americans are disgusted with the way our Washington politicians have conducted themselves in recent weeks. Let’s start electing people that are willing to work towards our goals, and when they don’t, they should be fired, just as you and I would be if we didn’t perform our jobs as we should.

OUR FUTURE IS THE CHILDREN

If we don’t improve our education system in this country, the future of this nation looks very bleak. We throw so much money into education in this country, but we do not see the results of the money spent. There are other countries that spend far less, but they produce much better students upon graduation than we do. So what this means is that we need to make sure we are spending the money in the right places. Teachers are our golden goose. We need to honor them and pay them salaries that show how much we need and appreciate them. We also need to realize that lots of money is funneled into school districts where the wealthier people live, and very little money is given to inner city and rural area school districts. The quality of education should not be based on your zip code. All children in this country should be afforded the same level of education. This is where selfishness and greed rears its ugly head. If you are fortunate enough to live in one of those wealthier school districts, it is up to you to not forget about the children in those other neighborhoods. You may think it won’t affect you, but it does because we are judged around the world as Americans, not by your individual zip code. We need all of our children to be successful in school and to do that we need the help of parents, school administrators, and the community to get involved and make our schools better for all children.

RACISM IS A PROBLEM

I know people like to think that racism is behind us, but unfortunately it is not. Let’s all be honest about the racial discrimination in this country and work towards improving it. We have to be a nation that can overcome the issue of racism or it will be this country’s biggest downfall. When people are discriminated against it causes anger, and when you have this kind of anger it can be like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. Race relations on a national level need to be addressed. We should be addressing it in school, work, neighborhoods, and churches. How can America have all of these religious people with great faith in God and country, but hate your neighbor or co-worker because of their race. This is a problem in our country and WE THE PEOPLE need to address it.

There are so many things we can all do to improve the state of this nation. We just need to acknowledge the problems we face and each individual person do your part to make things better. Whether you join a community association to improve your neighborhood or join the PTO at your child’s school. You have to let your individual voices be heard. Make a point to write to your Congressman, Senators and the President and let them know how you feel and suggestions to them as to how to make things better in this country. It is up to all of us to do our part to improve this nation. What are YOU going to do?????

DzyMsLizzy, It is a shame that our nation is in such a state of confusion. It will take all of us to work our way out of it. Thank you for reading and commenting.

Well said. It is very disheartening...everyone's priorities are in the wrong place, it seems. Sports figures get obscenely inflated salaries for playing a stupid GAME, and people get so worked up over sports teams that they think it's worth beating an opposing team fan senseless or killing them?

Meanwhile our teachers struggle to teach, as our educational system keeps getting shortchanged of funds.

Just make me empress for a day--I'll fix it all! LOL Seriously, though, I do agree that something must change, and quickly, or we will have been the fastest rise and fall of a superpower in history.

      It makes me ill.
