The Government Should Require Warning Labels on Potatoes

Updated on November 28, 2017

In the past, I had often eaten Pringle's potato chips, and I noticed that I always had really bad aches and pains in my arms and shoulders, after I ate them. Naturally, I quit eating them. Although I quit eating Pringle's, I noticed the same problem with potato chips made by some other companies. I suspect that the companies that made these potato chips had used green potatoes to manufacture their chips. Potatoes grow underground, and since they grow underground, they are ordinarily never exposed to light. Potatoes that are exposed to light begin to produce a chemical called solanine, and solanine causes the potatoes to turn green. If you eat a green potato, you can get a serious illness, solanine poisoning can even cause death. Some companies may handle their potatoes carelessly, and they allow the potatoes to become exposed to light, and that's when they begin to produce solanine.

I looked for information about solanine poisoning on the internet, and I found several websites that described it. One website explained that solanine is a neurotoxin, that acts as an acetl cholinesterase inhibitor. The chemical action of solanine in the human body is similar to the action of 'nerve gases', such as Malathion and Parathion. There are several symptoms of solanine poisoning, including nausea, cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, sleepiness, confusion, dizziness, and difficulty walking. In large amounts, solanine can be fatal.

After reading about solanine on these websites, I had an idea. I thought that the federal government should make a law that would require potato-packaging companies to put warning labels on every sack of potatoes that they sell. The federal government already requires cigarette packages to have a warning label that says that smoking is hazardous to your health. There are products that contain potatoes, such as potato chips, and the government should also require the solanine warning to be printed on every bag of potato chips that is sold in the U.S.A. It would probably take a very ambitious campaign of activism to convince the government to require these warning labels, because the federal government has shown very little interest in public health. Since Donald Trump became President, the federal government has become a useless entity. How can the government protect the public's health with a degenerate like Trump serving as President?
