The Growth Of Socialism In The United States

Updated on July 14, 2016

Greg has many opinions when it comes to politics and education. He has no qualms with voicing his opinion..

Before starting this hub, I must explain my stance on political issues in the United States of America.

In my opinion, I am not a staunch conservative nor am I a flaming liberal.

Some may say that I walk the fence between the two. I really don't see that as the correct definition of my views either. I don't like to walk fences, because as Dad used to tell me, "If you walk a fence, you are bound to fall off and bust your &@(($.

No, the way I see it, I follow a whole different perspective. I read the Constitution and I see every elected official we have breaking one or another of the words written within it.

I feel that our government had become overloaded with lawyers, lobbyists, and full time politicians. I really do not believe our founding fathers planned it the way it has become.

I think we need to toss the works in the bonfire and start all over. I know that is nearly impossible, but it is ok to dream.

I believe we need to start over with a complete volunteer government where no member gets any pay. States would primarily call the shots for the State and the Federal government would handle all items that are not State based.

We would not build any more debts, but would pay off all outstanding debt freeing ourselves from all financial burdens.

I could go on and on, but that would turn this hub into a book; probably a boring book at that.

I believe you probably see my stance; I'm a dreamer, hoping for what seems an impossible dream, but miracles do happen.

Ok, on with the hub.

What Is Socialism

If you take a look at the picture at the right, you will see the perfect definition of Socialism.

Fire-ants live in a colony. they have one main leader...the queen. Everything from food to other essentials the colony needs to survive are part of the colony. One ant, or several cannot horde food they have killed. It is split between the colony.

When a fire ant is sickly, the others will sting it to death and eat it.

Merriam-Websters Dictionary

The definitions for Socialism in Merriam-Websters are:

"a way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies"

"any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods"

"a system of society or group living in which there is no private property"

"a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state"

"a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done"

Now let us take a look at Countries that are Socialist now.

Current Socialist Countries

Before I take you on a tour of the countries that are ruled by Socialist standards, I must make some clear statements.

There are many countries that have a strong Socialist party that wins many elections, but the government itself of that particular country is not necessarily considered a Socialist country. A great example would be Sweden.

Another country that shows strong Socialist influence, but is not considered Socialist is Venezuela.

There are also two types of Socialist governments and ruling parties. The Marxist-Leninist form of Socialism has probably the "purest" form of Socialism. They are on the brink of being Communist, and many do say they are. Communism and Socialism are closely tied together.

The other form of Socialism is considered a Democratic form. It does not have a clear definition, but there Constitutions claim they are, and many of their laws and customs are Socialist based.

Below are two tables showing first, the Marxist-Leninist Socialist Countries, and second, the Democratic Socialist Countries.

Those Who Want A Socialist America

United Socialist States of America...U.S.S.A.

I will be the first to admit that Socialism in small ways has been building in the United States for some time. With the welfare system we have, it is evident.

The Social Security system is somewhat of a Socialist system.

The fact has been though that for the most part, the United States is a Capitalistic Country.

I am very careful of ever saying Democratic, because in reality there is no Country that is truly Democratic.

It was running in such a way though that if you worked hard and built your wealth, essentially, no one could take that wealth from you. I believe that is about to change if President Obama has his way. Don't get me wrong though, I think there are Republicans who also want this. they are just hiding in the closet.

So what makes me assume this? Let me explain...

The Testing Ground

Through much research and study, I have found that for many years the United States has used Puerto Rico as a testing ground.

I have a blog I regularly post on that is about Puerto Rico. Many of you know that I live here and I have learned many things about this beautiful Caribbean country over the last couple of years.

I just posted an article about the many tests that the United States has performed here. You can find a link to that post at the right.

I truly believe there is a test going on here as I write this hub. It is a test of how the powers can force Socialism on the people. It is a test to see if people will accept it, or if they will up rise in protest and dissension. I believe this test has been going on for well over 1 year. I also believe that the test results has President Obama grinning from ear to ear.

The Results

What I have seen is an "in your face" form of Socialism.

The electricity and the water of Puerto Rico are run by monopolies. Only one company for each and it sure seems the Government has strong ties in these companies.

Through interviewing people it has become clear that those who live in affluent neighborhoods pay much higher rates for their water and electricity. It isn't a usage scale, but a "how rich are you scale." If you travel to lower income areas, you will find average water rates of around $20 a month. Go to higher class areas and you will find rates at $200-300+. They get these rates even if they weren't in the home the entire month. It works similar on electricity.

Yes, some of the people are yelling slightly about it, but it isn't at the point of protest. They just pay the bill and keep on, keeping on.

Yes, Socialism is winning.

Soon to be in your neighborhood Miami, Dallas, New York, Chicago, Butte, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles. and the rest of the mainland United States.

Why, you ask?

Because Puerto Rican people will protest much quicker than apathetic Americans.

Did that offend you?

GOOD! It was meant to.

Chinese Labor

Cuban Conditions

Guyana Conditions

So You Want To Be Socialist

How about we look at the stability of these Socialist Countries.

I am sure many of you are familiar with China. Economically, yes, they are strong, but how are the living conditions in China? See the video.

There is a lot of corruption in Cuba. The government owns the places where you are able to buy food. There is a lot of propaganda that all is well in Cuba, but watch the video and listen to the people who live there.

Those are two in the Marxist-Leninist form of Socialism. What about the Democratic Socialism?

Many of the citizens live in mud huts with no plumbing. The economic stability is terrible. It is a difficult place to live. There is a lot of beauty in Guyana, but when you look closely how the Government is run, you will see pure ugliness. The country is broke and the President has a lot of stress on his shoulders. Just what the U.S.A. needs huh?

North Korea

Yea, that is what we want. Let's all be like North Korea. We can have a crazy nut leading us. He will try to build nuclear weapons and test them under the ground just below our homes. He will order us to work for 18 hours a day and eat a dog food sandwich with a smile on our faces. Yes, let's be Socialist like North Korea. I don't think I need to show you a video of their wonderful living conditions, because your mouth will be watering to be just like them.

Do You Think Socialism Will Work In The United States?

See results

It is very clear that Socialism just does not work.

In a Socialist regime, you will have a few that have everything they could ever hope for and more. All the rest will be eating the dirt from between the toes of those elite.

Sure, some paint a different picture, but go live in a Socialist country for 1 year and tell me it is good.

I believe that since President Obama is so "honked" on having the United States be a Socialist Country, how about we send him and his family to Tanzania for 1 year? We supply him with $1000 to make it for that year. I wonder how he and his family would feel about Socialism then. Oh, would he rather go to Guyana? Maybe North Korea?

The studies have all showed that Socialism is a bad move.

Step up people of the United States and don't allow this to happen to you,

underthedome, I must say, Thank God someone like Sarah is speaking up. Sometimes she speaks somewhat out of line, but at least she speaks.

Molly, you are completely correct. It is called apathy. Until things get quite difficult for those people, they will not change--another Big Mac and fries please.

Thanks to both of you for your input.

Socialism always fails. The people who want socialism don't really understand the reality of what that would mean. I know too many people who don't know what is going on in the world, and sadly they don't even care to know. Ignorance is not bliss. Most people just want to eat their McDonald's and watch reality television, and not have to think about the big issues. It's all bread and circuses.

Seriously guys! What Americans should be more worried about is what comes out of Sarah Palin's mouth. The day Obama and co. are able to keep Fox News off the air, then you can complain.

Socialism always fails and there is no doubt that this administration and the fools in the press are marching us in that direction. What more proof do Americans need in order to see the troubling direction we are heading in? Voted up, useful in the right hands and awesome.

You are so right Jayfort. It is our responsibility to shake them and try and wake them up though.

      C'mon American's --- WAKE UP!

      Thanks for your input Jay.

Unfortunately more and more Americans feel no emotional attachment to much of anything, to include our nation. Only when things collapse might they wake up. Of course, by then it'll be too late.

I appreciate your response billybuc. Apathy is destroying America, just as rust destroys automobiles. You do not realize how fast the rust is spreading, until it is too far.

      I hope people will listen.

I love discussions like this one. The fact is that our freedoms are eroding, and what is more disturbing than that is the fact that most people are so complacent and apathetic that they don't rise up against the obvious destruction of their rights. Keep raising awareness, Greg.
