The Hypocrisy of Trayvon Martin

Updated on July 8, 2013

I am pretty sure if it was a group of muscular black guys with gang tattoos and thick accents drinking 40 ouncers, Zimmerman would not have approached or try to physically confront the group. Given that Trayvon Martin was a skinny kid with some skittles is a signal that he may not be a tough kid. The colorful design of the skittles bag may have lowered his street toughness. The kid tried to put on a mean face to scare away his killer. However, the kid was such an easy target.

The Strong and the Weak

It’s no different in the ghetto or elsewhere. The weakest targets get eliminated and the strong fighters survive. Black people get killed by black people all the time because of similar situations, under more cynic circumstances too. These types of killings always happen when the neighborhood gang is not pleased with the type of people that is visiting the neighborhood. The gang that Zimmerman belonged to wanted turf control desperately. This is what happens when people want turf control from rivals.

How to Attack Someone in the Streets

Zimmerman was mimicking basic street gang activity protocols.

If you are going to attack someone in the streets, the first thing is to evaluate the READINESS and STRENGTH of the future victim. If they are holding ice tea in one hand and skittles in the other hand, you know that they are not ready. At this point, you should take them out, because they are not ready and it’s a sure victory. It is how the strong takes out the weak.

Looking Tough in the Streets

I was never sure why African Americans try to look so tough and mean in the streets (ghetto). I know understand why they sport such a demeanor. It is as result of being regularly targeted by white, Hispanic and black people. If Trayvon Martin had been a bit bigger and intimidating, he would have finished his skittles. Social darwism is real and is being played out everywhere in the world by every race.

911 Call by Zimmerman

911 call

Even the 911 agent was very glad to hear that Trayvon Martin did not impose an immediate threat. The 911 agent told Zimmerman not to follow the kid when the kid walked away. "Are you following him, please don't follow him" said the 911 agent.

Whenever a crime is committed against a black man by a white, it is called racism.

Whenever a crime is committed against a black man by a black man, it is called barbaric.

Whenever a crime is committed against a white man by black man, it is called the gas chamber.

Whenever a crime is committed against a white man by a white man, it is called homicide.

Not a Race issue

It is important to understand that Trayvon Martin’s killing is not really an issue of race but an issue of innocent people getting killed. It is unfortunate that black kids have been killed by a white man. What about other killings. All killings must be denounced, no matter the race or culture.

· The Children are Crying Out for Love: A street child does a touching dub poet about living on the streets of Jamaica. This poem conjures up a lot of emotions. One of the main Rastafarian beliefs is to look out for the children of the streets. All these children on the streets are part of the Rastafarian culture.

respect tmcurtis. Blatant and inaccurate profiling. Well, the judiciary system thinks that Zimmerman did the right thing.

I think what most people fail to understand is that Trayvon Martin was a victim of racial profiling. He was targeted because of the bias in the heart of the shooter, who playing cop where he had no authority to act. As we can see from subsequent events surrounding George Zimmerman he is a loose cannon with many personal problems. And yet he is still allowed to be in possession of a fire arm. How sad!

Respect Lisa. Those with children have been traumatized by this and similar events. I hope we can move forward and not have to worry about our children so much.

I could not have said this better, myself. This was a case of an adult killing a child, race does not matter, only intent. I do not care that this was a black youth with a hoodie. My white daughters wear hoodies all the time and they also eat skittles and drink tea. This was a case of a jerk who thought he was superior and killed a respectable child because he could get away with it...this is what human nature has turned into...the sad fact is our babies die from the hate that is spread! great hub thanks for sharing I voted up!

All killing is tragic regardless of race there is no need for the media to sensationalize it. This is a tragedy for everyone involved.

Respect Mosaicman, probable if it was another state, it would have been dealt with as murder.

Interesting point of view. I never looked at it in this matter. I do think however since the judicial system was going to sweep this incident under the rug, the African American community had to speak up to see that justice would hopefully be served.

Respect WD, I see police and soldiers as gangs. Because they create fear and can kill.

      Try Matthew 10:16

JAH not sleeping, spiritual justice will be served. Spiritual crimes will be judged by the spiritual judge. We are in a time now, where the violent will rule and the innocent will be like a lamb to slaughter.

“This is what happens when people want turf control from rivals.”

Your reference to Zimmerman's gang membership is an obvious symbolic metaphor. He may not be in a street gang, but he is a member of a growing gang of like minded people who are taking it upon themselves to protect “their turf”. In another of your Hubs, you aptly point out that the righteous need not fear or arm themselves. Should such a conviction lead to injury or death, there will be a whirlwind to reap, and a righteous cause will move forward. Martin Luther King and JFK come to mind.

I am close to this issue and the action here in Central Florida. Your contribution to the understanding of the dynamics involved is profound. I count it as a prophetic utterance.

Respect billybuc, innocent people get killed because they are not thinking about defending themselves. It is the aggressors that win.

Rasta my friend, excellent hub and a right on point. Most of all, though, I commend you for taking a stand for what you believe is right. It makes no difference whether I agree or the others who have commented agree; what is important is that you care enough to make a stand.

Respect thhug5, that's exactly my point. there should be an uproar when black people shoot black people.

Respect Sunshine, I never said zimmerman is white, I can see his forehead is hispanic.

Where I come from only gangs carry guns. Once a neighborhood watch start using guns as a method of reinforcement it is functioning as a gang especially if they have killings to their names. Nobody will loaf around that community any more.

This hub has so many levels of meaning. Well done, rasta1. I really wish - just for once - that the argument needs to be "what's happening to society." It feels like people who should never have guns have them. It feels like children who are way too young somehow get them and go on sprees at high schools. It feels like we need more love and less argument about gun control. Thanks for your insights in this hub. :)

You're so right, black people kill black people all the time and and black people don't get in an uproar over that. People need to quit pulling the race card every time a black person gets killed. Who cares what race he was, he was a CHILD and quite frankly I'm sick of all the speculation. I wasn't there so I don't know what happened and neither does anybody else. The conspiracy theories are getting out of control.

And Linda is right, Zimmerman is Hispanic. People have been saying that he is white I'm guessing because they just wanted to make it look like a race issue and cause drama. People need to quit acting like they know what happened and let Trayvon's family have some peace already. Good hub, voting up.

Hi Art, Zimmerman didn't belong to a gang. He is a Neighborhood Watch volunteer. I was a Neighborhood Block volunteer in my area. I still keep my eyes and ears open to the happenings in the area. We aren't a gang. We watch our neighbors backs.

Also Zimmerman isn't white. He's hispanic. The media has changed his status to white in the past couple of weeks. He's always been hispanic.

This tragic event for both the Martin and Zimmerman families happened just a few miles from where I live. It is an out of control situation because of the media.

Homicide, Gas Chamber, Racism, Barbaric...sad, but true in our society.
