The Nazi Play Book Re-Visited

Updated on April 21, 2014

And So It Begins..

Good Morning Breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, April 21, 2014. Our friend, Tevya, the Wasp, is here with me at the breakfast table. He doesn't have much of an appetite this morning, but he has generously brought us a few dozen bagels and cream cheese for our breakfast. Please join us at the table. Something quite horrifying has taken place in the Ukraine that every single human being on the planet needs to know about.

Thank you all for joining me this morning. Jews in the Ukrainian city of Donetsk where targeted by pro-Russian militants who have taken over government buildings. Jewish citizens leaving a synagogue were handed leaflets ordering them to register with the city or face deportation. If you don't have a cold chill running down your spine by now, perhaps this last sentence needs to be repeated.

The Russians are Coming

Jewish citizens in Donetsk were ordered to provide a list of the property they own. They were further ordered to pay a "registration" fee. If they failed to comply with these orders they were told they would have their citizenship revoked and be subjected to deportation and the confiscation of their assets. The bone-chilling leaflet began with these words, " Dear Ukraine citizens of Jewish nationality." All citizens of Jewish descent over 16 years of age were told they must report to the Commissioner for Nationalities in the Donetsk Regional Administration building to "register."

The leaflets bore the name of Denis Pishilin who is the chairman of "Donetsk's temporary government". They were handed out to Ukraine citizens as they left their synagogue following the Passover evening prayer. There is still some confusion regarding who exactly is responsible for these disgusting leaflets, but the fact remains that it happened and the world should pay attention. Something evil and ugly is stirring once again in the world and acting deaf, dumb and blind isn't going to stem the tide of rising anti-Semitism.

Finger Pointing

Although it is still not entirely clear who printed this vile material, the fact remains that it happened and something needs to be done about it. The Jewish community has historically been the perfect scapegoats for deranged madmen who want to send a clear message to every citizen, namely, do as you are told or face trouble. These despicable leaflets also serve to recruit other lunatics into a common cause. The end-game is fermenting hatred and it is used by despots to bring insane people together and focus their self-hatred and fear upon others. In this case, it is the Jews. Putin has unleashed a nightmare upon the world. He is determined to bring back the Russian Empire and he is quite confident that he can get away with it. He'll do it the same way Adolf Hitler tried to do it and he will stop at nothing to get the job done.

Tell the Story!

I would be remiss if I didn't point out how disgusted I am with both the print media and the networks. The existence of these leaflets is a huge wake-up call to all civilized nations. This incident did not receive the attention it deserved. It bears remembering Pastor Niemoller's moving words:

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

They they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Tevya's Song

Dear God, you made so many madmen

It is a great shame to be a madman

So why are they here?

      Good Morning fp,

I know a woman who is from Poland. Most of her family is still there and they are terrified of Putin. What is happening now, happened before. If we don't learn from history, events will destroy us. I call Obama the "Putin whisperer". He doesn't have a foreign policy or a moral compass, so I expect very little from him. See you at the Inn.

      Good Morning lambservant,

The U.S managed to ignore the horror of the Holocaust until denying it was impossible. Obama should have talked about this hideous event because it is that important. His pal Putin is putting him in a bad position, isn't he? On the other hand, Obama seems to be giving Putin a whole lot of leeway. See you at the Inn. We may be looking at the beginning of WWIII.

      Good Morning FitnezzJim,

Putin is a beast, so I put nothing past him. Actions like this serve a dual purpose. One use the Jews as scapegoats and send a clear message to everyone as we say or else. Sure sounds like Putin to me! See you at the Inn.

pop......Thank you for this reporting. As much news as I think I am on top of...I missed this? Frightening and appalling.

Just recently had a conversation w/ my Uncle on the "Ukraine" situation. He is the sole surviving sibling of my(late) Dad. Their great grandparents, 100% pure Ukrainian, fled the Ukraine, to Galecia, Austria to escape Mr. Hitler's wrath and plan to "cleanse" (as it was not ONLY Jews, he wished to obliterate). Ultimately they came to America with my paternal grandfather (as a youngster)...

Can we even begin to expect our Leader(s) to halt this in it's tracks?

This calls for major "Kahunas.".....the kind that have been sorely missing.....UP+++

Shame on all the nations who fail to get involved and help. We promised we would never again let a holocaust happen. This one seems much more well known that the last one. We cannot turn the other way.

This is scary stuff. Let us hope that t turns out to be one an action not sanctioned by the governing powers in Russia. If it is, will Obama's flexibilty allow him to turn a blind eye to the beginnings of another holocaust?

      Dear savvydating,

Obama plays a part in this madman's game plan. He was very transparent when it came to his "friendship" with the devil. "Tell Putin when I get re-elected I can be more flexible.:" Well, he's keeping his word isn't he?" I can't imagine another American President who would have whispered those words. A two year old knows what Putin is capable of. No wonder Putin is being so bold. He knows he really has nothing to fear from his pal in the U.S. The President should have addressed this horrific incident. I didn't hear a thing. I'm on my way to the Inn!

      Dear Gawth,

It is scary for everyone. To think that one of the worst tragedies in human history could be played out again is beyond imagination. The entire civilized world had better keep watching. See you at the Inn.

Our dearest Tevya, thank you for letting us know about this newest, most dreadful situation. I think many of us have seen the writing on the wall where Putin is concerned. There is no question in my mind that he is a ruthless autocrat who will stop at nothing to create a pre-cold war Russia. And once again, as always, the Jewish people are the scapegoats. This is beyond sickening. Meanwhile, the USA does nothing, zero, nada. Well, there are the sanctions, but the lack of definitive military action will come back to haunt us--big time.

I am immensely sorry for the people of Ukraine who wish to remain Ukrainian citizens and will be unable to do so, as much as I am for those who are willingly handing over their allegiance to Russia and Putin, the dictator.

I do not know if there are "end times" but if there is, the playbook is written and set to proceed just as it did during the reign of Hitler, as you so sagely pointed out.

One thing I do know is that unless we get a strong Republican back in office, Putin will continue to sit pretty. But by then it may be too late...

Save me a seat at the table, will you? I'll have a strong one, after my bagel and cream cheese. I'll bring the bottle.

      Dear Mike,

Then I have to conclude that the world doesn't work at all. I have a 90 year old uncle who is now writing a book about his escape from the Nazis. This can't be happening again. See you at the Inn.

When Hitler rose to power, the American people were still reeling from World War One and the Great Depression, so they did not want to get involved in another European war.

Now we have an American people still reeling from the Great Recession and the aftermath of 9-11 generated wars, so they don't want to get involved in another European war.

Putin knows his history, and he's repeating it.

      Dear Chris,

It is interesting to note that Jewish citizens in the Ukraine have said that this is the first hint of anti-Semitism they have ever experienced. We can thank Putin for unleashing the madness. The only thing I know for sure is that Putin is seeking to re-build the Soviet Union in the image of the KGB.

      Dear Wayne,

We simply can't afford for history to repeat itself. Civilized nations must reach into the part of their collective sanity and purge the lunatics from their midst. How absurd was it for Obama to cozy up to Putin with whispered promises. That, to me, is an impeachable offense. See you at the Inn.

It has been a sad history of progromes, Jews and the Ukraine for centuries. The story you picked for your hub fits into the picture, only it was magnified and biased through the current the crisis.

Magnified: Jews being unwanted, being blamed for everything is nothing new in the Ukraine and in parts of Europe.

Biased: If pro Russians handed out leaflets of doubtful legitimacy, how do you compare this with direct threats of west Ukrainian militants and politicians against Jews?

What does Putin have to do with it? Isn´t propaganda playing a trick on you? I am currently in a remote place in China so i cant´t look up, what Pfarrer Niemöller would have said about propaganda.

Here again we have yet another example of the absurdity of anyone thinking that the world could be a better place if it was under "one government" globally. The differences in cultures, the attitudes, the prejudice and hatred can only get worse if we herd people under one umbrella and attempt to rule over them. As it is here in America, we have one culture after another moving here and demanding that we change our culture to fit their needs. Actually, too see this attitude toward the Jewish people is not surprising as the Russians were not too far behind the Germans in their attitude toward Jews even back in WWII days. Some things just never change and ignorance is one of them. ~WB

We are going backwards in history in all matters. Think about it, Anti-Semitism on the rise in Europe, the annexing of countries and cries of discrimination in this country which defy reason . could go on and on, but it makes me sick. See you at the Inn. Tevya never stings friends.

POP: I did read about this, and I am appalled that the media is ignoring this story. Why? Is it because our "fearless Leader" won't know how to handle this situation? I think so. HIstory does repeat itself, and insanity

is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. Enough Said. Even though I am allergic to bees, Tevya is my friend. I am going to see him now, at the bar. He is saving me a seat...l.
