The Unvarnished Truth

Updated on December 10, 2011

It's Past Time For Reality To Sink In

Pandering for votes should be a crime. If a politician says it then it must be true. Right? Hardly because they always give new meaning to the "if his/her lips start moving then more than likely a lie is about to follow." But they have pandering to the public down to a fine art. "Not mine," you utter! Please don't be naive. What has been going on for decades will continue to go on so lets just get past the next election cycle so we can go back to doing what we want, not what the US Constitution says, but what we want, is the prevalent attitude among this pack of professional pick pockets. Don't you sometimes wonder what they say to each other when the cameras aren't all lit up around them as they bask in their glory?

Under the guidance of our current crop of knot heads our country is on the slide to hell in a hand basket guided by a bunch of lazy, not smarter than the average bear types who obviously don't know how to balance a checkbook or a household budget. Their idea of fixing the very fiscal problem that exists in the nation is to continue to throw good money after bad in order to rectify the mess they created in the first place. Throw this dog a bone, or that dog a bone, and tell us how they saved this, that or the other. According to them the answer to our problems is "them" when in actuality they are the problem. All we need to do is "just give them one more chance" to sit up there on their imaginary throne and they'll do the right thing.

So let me take aim at the federal government and its incompetence. You see, my friends and fellow countrymen, behind any incompetence is a human being. In the case of the fed, it is too many of them congregating in one place. For those who haven't ever cracked the US Constitution you should. For those who haven't studied early American history then start cracking the books a time or two. This nation was founded on self-reliance, self-determination, and above all "liberty." The role of the federal government in all that was designed, yes designed into the document itself, to be "limited." Those wise men knew what will always happen when you give any government the ultimate power to run your life. Do you?

So here's the unvarnished truth. The federal government wasn't built to govern over every little detail of your life. In fact, the design plan was to prevent that from happening. King George be damned. The people who came up with the present design plan are the panderers I have previously mentioned. That gives them power and that they crave like a junkie craves the next fix. It wasn't designed to run huge entitlement programs, the nation's health care system or the huge bureaucracies we see all around us wanting to flex their muscles and tell us what we should or shouldn't eat, do or participate in. That is all about control and nothing else but control.

Take a look at the US Postal service. It's going bankrupt. The federal government can't run a lemonade stand and make a profit much less tend to the prudent spending of our hard earned tax dollars. AMTRAC is another prime example. It's still being propped up. Why? Or take the abuse of the Medicare system which gets a lot of lip service but not much action. If it's a known fact that 168 billion dollars is lost a year through fraud, waste or abuse why hasn't something been done about that? Wouldn't want to rock the boat too much now would they? Instead of fixing the problems they want to pander for the elderly vote by fabricating stories about this party, or that party, wanting to push Grandma off a cliff or withholding needed medication from those who need it. What utter rubbish but some people know how to shovel the garbage better than others and there are those who actually believe that tripe because their favorite partisan panderer had the audacity to let it dribble from their lips.

Then We See Rubbish Like This?

So what's the cure? The cure for the crime is to throw them out of office. Stop listening to the sound bites this time around and take a critical look at their record and how they voted during the last election cycle on issues important to you. Become involved and informed and stop listening to "the party line" because they are the problem. The answer doesn't lie in taxing any of us any more than they are taxing us. The answer is getting rid of the deadwood in the political forest. If we can't get them to enact term limits then we have to take matters into our own hands and enact them for them by way of the ballot box. Nobody needs to be sitting up there for decades on end. That, in of of itself, should be a clue as to the level of incompetence we are having to deal with.

This country needs to return to the concept of our nation being about "We, the People..." and away from it being about "They, Themselves" and their infinite wisdom about their ability to govern. If they're that smart they just may well be needed elsewhere other than a place like Washington DC. But then again sitting on a comfy, cushioned seat and getting paid to do nothing but create economic chaos at our expense seems to be too good a gig for some to pass up. Pander away until the next election then back to the same old, same old.

Some people seem to think that's the way that Washington works. I know that's the way it works because I've been watching them do it for decades on end. Service to the nation is an admirable thing - productive service. The federal government produces nothing. It should be a useful watchdog, not a lazy mutt intent on putting its paw out to finance the next bad idea.

I'm just saying...

As Always,

The Frog Prince

      Hi Frog,

Sadly, I DO know what these guys act like when the cameras are off and the best word to describe who they are in real life is "separationist." They are all about separating themselves from the American ppl. at large and they are good at it! When you work closely with politicians you are daily aware of the fact that they are all very "close" dems and republicans and liberals and conservatives and they truly "live" the fact that it is us against them. These clowns know that they can claw each other's eyes out in debates, in letters, in commercials and in the voting booth and still share a "cigar" over a martini at the end of the day as best friends who only have to keep on pulling the wool over the eyes of the majority of American ppl. to KEEP their jobs, power and position of "higher" than the rest of us in life! I don't believe until our young ppl. decide to lead this charge and take this torch from the rest of us that anything will change. For four decades I have been writing about and reading about articles just like this one and I have learned that they are never purposely read by liberals, because they only expose themselves to one side of the news and conservatives have known we need to make these changes in every election and our politicians have run every campaign promising to do the things all of us lay ppl. know need to be done and yet 5 decades later: nothing, not even term limits or the elimination of pork and while raising our National Debt to 15 trillion dollars, they truly don't care because they are all wealthy and truly believe that they cannot fail and I believe that until or unless our young ppl take up this torch and riot in the streets like is happening in many countries all over the world that nothing is going to change. I think all of us hoped that Occupy Wall Street was the beginning of that national revolution but clearly these kids of the baby boomers were never taught how to picket, protest and riot to make real changes like so many of us did with some real results in the 60's and 70's when many of us were real hippies!!! So far OWS has cost the taxpayers 15 million dollars and our law enforcement officers nationwide are worn out going into Christmas and hundreds of small businesses have lost revenue and in some cases have had to close completely because of these idiot hippy wanna be freaks who have been peeing and living on the street in front of America's small businesses trying to figure out why they are out there and trying to come up with a cause. All I can say is this never happened when we were burning bras on the steps of the capital building in Sacramento----no one peed and no one brought a tent and with regard to equal pay for women we did win the things we asked for and our only regret was that we didn't do it sooner. Since that day many women have shattered the glass ceiling in our country and many other countries around the world.

Well done as always, Jim--and thereby hangs a tale.

Or an image, rather. As I was reading this page, an analogy came to mind: If we treated politics like gold miners treat panning, we'd be in business. That is, swish the water around in the pan till all the lighter sand (typical lightweight useless politicians) have been swirled over the side and only the true few golden nuggets--the heavyweights who actually give a damn--remain in the bottom of the pan.

That way, we'd be able to hang onto people like Sen. Jim DeMint and Rep. Darrell Issa but "swirl out" a whole lot of less than desirable folk.

But there's a problem: Gold panning is almighty hard work, and so is due diligence in the political process. It takes a lot of sleeve-rolling, dirty, nasty, git-down grit to monitor the sand grains of the world.

      Voted Up and Plenty.

      Hi Frog,

It's clear the federal government has usurped virtually powers granted to the states and the people. This is the main reason federal gocernment costs so much to operate, and why we have so much federal debt - the stolen powers have to be enorced. Add to this the trillions of discretionary spending (bailouts, stimulus, projects, etc.), and the official budget alone account for 25% of GNP. Throw in federal social program and other off balance liability liability accrual, the figure is closer to 40%.

Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution lists all poewrs granted to Congress. This is in effect limits the other two branches as well, since the the Exceutive branch can't enforce and the Judiciary can't interpret anything that the Congress can't enact. Specifically, the sole powers granted to the federal government are:

      Assess taxes

      Pay federal debt

      Borrow money

      Regulate commerce with foreign nations

Prevent states from engaging in restraint of trade

      Promulgate immigratino law

      Manage the money supply

      Punish counterfeiters

      Operate the Post Office

      Promulgate patent law

      Promulgate maritime law

      Declare war

      Operate the military

      Suppress insurrections

      Repel foreign invasions

Exercise authority over the seat of government (DC) and federally purchased lands

ALL other powers are vested by the Tenth Amendment in the hands of the states and the people. So how does one justify the existence of and regulations from:

      The FCC

      The DOE

      The ATF

      The Dept. of Agriculture

      The Dept. of Education

      The Commerce Dept.

      The HHS

      The FDA

      Social Security

      Ad nauseum

In truth, violations of enumerated powers are now so numerous that we live in a federal dictatorship. Not only does the federal government steal powers from the states and the people, but the branches of the federal government routinely steal powers from each other (judicial activism, regulation that ignores the will of Congress, etc.). We are no longer a Constitutional Republic, but a nation of federal tinpot dictators, each with his own personal agenda.

I fear for national financial collapse, as well as the imposition of formal socialist dictatorship. We are very close to both right now.

OP - I think the figure that I heard was the federal bureaucracy has grown by 17% since Obama took office. He was the guy who promised to scrub the federal bureaucracy from top to bottom? I think he grabbed the wrong scrub brush. My article about when failure is an option summed up the Super Committee joke they pulled on us.

      b. malin - Oh, say a cut of the size of the federal monster by 50% would yield an immediate astronomical spending cut and save the tax payer from fraud, waste and abuse.

Greenbudgie - They are equal opportunity panderers and politicians rather than statesmen.

Another answer that comes to mind is "TERM LIMITS" For these positions...and a President who is not doing a good job, should NOT be able to run for re-election. Of course LESS Government would be good, and people should be allowed to keep more of what they earn and really have more say in how much is Spent, a real accounting.

Oh we all could go on, and on, and you've said a Mouthful Froggy, it's a Good Hub. Pleae PEOPLE wake up!

Awesome insights and pointers. Sadly, these incompetent bozos couldn't hold a real job in the real world which is why they''re in the gov't. Not a lot of high standards going on there. Shocking.

Well Prince, you are on fine form today, and why not, as you only ever talk sense. I am glad to see you back, and will be the first one to re-furbish your royal soap box. Bring on the next rant, if it is half as good and learned as this one.

Frog - Your return to hub land is like a ray of sunshine on a stormy day. How else could I vote other than up and all the rest of the buttons on this hub.

What I am seeing is a group of highly incompetent people who grow in numbers by the day. The government keeps adding people and worthless agencies who accomplish nothing but added expense to the tax payers and more layers of bureaucratic BS to fight. We all know the TSA is highly inefficient and poorly managed, yet they grow in power and numbers by the day. The so called "Super Committee" turned out to be the "Super Joke" on America. We all know this was nothing but a stall tactic that was never intended to accomplish anything. I read where the members of the "Super Committee" received record amounts of campaign contributions while doing this task. The largest contributors were Lawyers and Agriculture. I guess some of the farmers were concerned about no longer getting paid for NOT GROWING crops. There are websites that show who made these campaign contributions and who received the money. Now some of us might even view these campaign contributions as "bribes". In reality, these politicians should have been prohibited from accepting money while on this committee.

The unemployment numbers and the jobs bill continue to be a do nothing and hope it goes away issue for government. Open up drilling and the pipeline from Canada and thousands of people would go to work immediately. Let's see, put people to work and reduce our dependence on foreign oil all at the same time? Nah, too simple and it would piss off the tree huggers.

Our whole government has turned into nothing but a Circus with every act rehearsed and orchestrated by someone with huge power. They make us feel like we have some level of control, but even that is planned. Divide the crowd into two camps, get them fighting, and they can sit back to watch and laugh at us.

Term Limits would be a great starting place to disband this Circus. Now how the heck do we get this done? It is past time to do this, so let's get started on it.

I enjoyed this reading this morning as I sit and wonder what our gov't will think of next to try and get re-elected. rated up..

Wow, I have really missed you and your fire. You have hit the nail on the head. Clean house! Washington is filled with lazy, arrogant ego maniacs who feel they have a job for life. Just like the Post Office that is filled with people who crawl around the post office like snails, they have lost the will to work hard and solve problems. It's time to shake things up. Up interesting, useful and awesome. Welcome home!
