Valuing Womankind: How the Feminine Balances and Lifts Up the Masculine
"The test of civilization is its estimate of women." ~ George William Curtis
Feminine and masculine energies complement one another. In the medical community, the masculine is symbolized by the straight line while the feminine is symbolized by the circle. The line of the masculine, being forceful, is naturally given to exertion and power. Ultimately, male energy strives to be released, whether for good or for ill. Thus, male energy is highly active.
On the other hand, the circle of the feminine encloses, creates, nurtures and inspires. Only the woman may nurture life in her womb. Feminine energy is highly potent but non-aggressive, as it must nurture to create.
Humans are equipped as masculine and feminine, male and female, in order to perpetuate life. This balance is also required to create an equilibrium within the human species. It does not matter how we believe the world or the human race came into being. What does matter is that we acknowledge these distinctly unique biological differences between the sexes and how these qualities can be put to use to uplift mankind.
Imagine a World Without Feminine Energy
In his book, Killing Women, Shmuley Boteach states, "If the world were comprised only of males and had no feminine energy whatsoever, we would witness male competitiveness, aggression, brute force, physical strength and domination---exclusively." Without the feminine influence to curb his aggression, the male is unable to become a more cultivated person.
60% of rapes on college campuses occur with a perpetrator who is an acquaintance of the survivor
32% are romantic partners
8% are unknown/strangers
(Zinzow & Thompson, 2011).
Don’t believe me? Just take a look at the Taliban in Afghanistan, or (I’m sorry to say), the disrespect toward women that infects many male college fraternities in the United States. Even some popular video games depict rape as the ultimate goal.
According to Rabbi Boteach (I paraphrase), "It is not unlikely that an all male race would have destroyed itself rather early on in the game." Thus, a balance of energies is always required.
However, in a world full of females where no masculine energy exists, we might experience something quite different. I picture gatherings, homemaking, companionship, perhaps the occasional squabble and certainly some artistic expression. Life might be a bit dull, but efficient nonetheless. After a time, the female would die quite naturally of old age and her species would cease to exist.
"60% of men said that if they thought they wouldn't get caught, they would be willing to force a woman to do something she didn't really want to do/and or rape her."
~Mary Anne Layden, PhD, Director for Sexual Trauma and Psychopathology Program, University of Pennsylvania
Clearly, both male and female are required to maintain the human population. However, humans do not live only for purposes of procreation. Males and females also exist to make the others’ lives fuller, more passionate, and more creative.
When the masculine is influenced by the feminine, according to Rabbi Boteach, his “aggression is curbed” and he has the opportunity to become a more disciplined and “higher” individual – something beyond a mere brute force. Without the feminine energy, the male would not evolve upward. The masculine, on the other hand, provides excitement and physical pleasure for the female who would otherwise remain encircled within her capable but somewhat lackluster female community.
Well, you might think to yourself, what about monks and nuns? They live without the influence of the other sex and they seem happy enough. Yes, but the monk would not be a monk were it not for the existence of feminine energy. Without feminine energy, there would be no monks or any other spiritual male prototype. Instead, life would contain a purely restless and undisciplined energy.
On the other hand, nuns would go about their business doing what they always do, with or without the male. Well then, you may say, “What about the gay man? He's "feminine" and he isn’t trying to kill everyone off as you claim. Well, some do kill. However, the gay man has embraced the feminine, which is something he could not do if the feminine energy were not present in his brain while he was formed in his mother's womb.
Greatness Is Achieved Through Masculine and Feminine Energy
Generally speaking, both sexes need to develop either their masculine or feminine energy somewhat---depending upon the individual. A correct blending of opposite energies is what crafts human beings into more well rounded people. However, it is the feminine energy which inspires humans to sacrifice time for a worthy venture, while the male energy gives us the passion and stamina needed to follow through with worthy acts despite setbacks, trials, and major inconveniences. In other words, the male energy has the needed vigor to “climb any mountain or blaze any trail.”
However, a male may not be inspired to blaze a trail for a higher purpose were it not for the influence of feminine energy. Because of the feminine, men are motivated to compose beautiful works of art, inspiring music, amazing works of literature, build stunningly beautiful works of architecture---to name just a few of the creative feats men (and women) have accomplished. And indeed, when it comes to love, a man can be quite vigorous in proclaiming his loving feelings for a woman.
Women Who Reject Femininity
Unfortunately, a number of women today are systematically throwing away their feminine selves in exchange for a masculine persona; she does so in order to excel in her career or to survive in this tough world. Also, she mistakenly believes that being aggressive is the only way she can be equal to a man. What she fails to realize is that with her true feminine energy intact, she is not merely equal to the man, she is....according to Rabbi Boteach, “already higher.” In other words, she doesn't need to act like a man. With her feminine energy, she already brings a higher value to the table.
In contrast, those wonderful expressions of male wonder and awe towards she who is naturally feminine and "womanly" is rarely if ever experienced by a woman who knowingly or unknowingly desecrates her femininity. For example, when a woman frequents a strip club with her boyfriend, all the while hooting and howling just like the boys, she is desecrating the feminine whether she realizes it or not.
American women were correct to insist upon the right to vote, claim an education and develop worthwhile careers, but women erred egregiously in deciding to devalue her feminine essence. In so doing, she actually made it easier for men to have the upper hand. The male no longer had to look up to women because, in the words of Rabbi Boteach, "She willingly came down to his level."
Consequently, when a hard-line feminist claims that a stripper or prostitute has the right to use her body as she chooses, she is desecrating the feminine. Yes, a woman has the right to choose to be objectified and viewed as a piece of anatomy, but if a she had any sense of self-worth or dignity, she would die rather than desecrate her feminine soul.
The fact is, most prostitutes and strippers come from backgrounds were sexual abuse was inflicted upon them in their formative years, which is why, sadly, they have little, if any, idea of their self-worth. According to statistics, 60 to 80 percent of exotic/nude dancers were sexually abused as children. That's a huge number!
Women Have the Power to Give Men Purpose
Men are waiting for something or someone to give their lives purpose and meaning. The influence of a first-class woman has the power to thrust him upward instead of down into the gutter where too many of our men (and women) currently exist. A man cannot and will not admire, respect, or diligently pursue a woman who acts crudely----that would be like asking him to pursue a sleazy man.
Whether men realize it or not, they still have the need to revere womankind. Sadly, many young men have reached an all time low, having had no decent male role models in their lives to teach them anything about respect and also having been raised by women who have no clue as to the value of her womanhood. Thus, American society is suffering. We are raising too many insensitive, undignified, angry and confused young people. Children are taking guns to school and killing one another. Too many women have thrown away their feminine energy in favor of the masculine. The world is lopsided. Masculine and feminine, two distinct energies, are meant to complement one another.
It Comes Down to Having Respect
We can improve upon our society once women begin remembering their worth and begin insisting upon being treated with respect, instead of accommodating themselves as playthings and receptacles for the amusement and gratification of men. Once we truly understand our higher power to create and inspire, our men will eventually follow suit.
Feminine power is a gift and it is women who must guide her children toward recognizing the respect due to womankind. As for the male, it is his duty to offer his support in helping her to raise children who will become responsible and respectful adults. Thus, it is a ghastly error for any woman to throw her feminine energy away. Female is not a four letter word. The world needs both higher feminine and masculine influences combined, if we are to thrive---now more than ever.
