Do you believe in reparations for blacks?

This question was asked by another author: Why does the mention of slavery anger some people? Is it ever appropriate to mention it? The following is my answer:

Slavery is a delicate subject to blacks as is the holocaust to Jews. It is so highly sensitive that it should be discussed with utmost thoughtfulness and compassion; especially by a descendant of oppressors.

It was highly offensive to imply all within the same breath that: "Whilst slavery was admittedly an abomination; the slaves were well fed." As did Bill O'Reilly of late, on his program.

I do not expect an apology from anyone. However, I expect TENFOLD all of the respect that is owed to my people who suffered unspeakable horrors at the whim of their oppressors.

Indeed, a thousand years reparation would not and could not make up for my ancestors who were viciously and systematically robbed of their basic human dignity century after century.

It is like the police officer killing my son in reckless incompetence but I am now six times a millionaire. If I return the six million to the cop, would I get my son back alive?

You understand now of course that money is a tool that we use to survive and not the other way around. It does not make you more "human" simply because you have more of it. You can buy a horse with it; a plantation with it; a slave with it; an election with it. Sadly, common human decency is still out of the realm of its reach.

Since it's Sunday, I can assume that KC is not at work. However, him and his buddy are awfully active on my hub. I also understand that this is 2016.. but can we make it a little less obvious ladies? I'm actually straight and for what it's worth, thank you for your senseless support. Now, get off my hub and get a life.

Mama, I so made it in America!! Gays are following me.

Rick- during my military career I knew of three individuals who where not U.S. citizens but in the U.S. Army. They were working on getting their U.S. citizenship.

In the mean time I think Jimmy is one French frie short of a Happy Meal.

For the record. Ethiopa was the last country to abolish slavery in the year 1942.

I was not aware of non-citizen in the US military. Would explain the second language thing. Might also explain a child being killed in a country that still had slavery.

First off this: I am an American Soldier.

I am a Warrior and a member of a team.

I serve the people of the United States, and live the Army Values.

I will always place the mission first.

      I will never accept defeat.

      I will never quit.

I will never leave a fallen comrade.

I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.

I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.

I am an expert and I am a professional.

I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America, in close combat.

I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.

      I am an American Soldier.

It is hard to discuss rhetorical questions or statement, it leaves far to much to what I think and not what you meant to say.

I'm not familiar with a soldiers creed? What country has a "soldiers creed"? What countries laws and constitution have/are you defending?

What is the position of power that you perceive to have?

@Rich Kelley: Speaking stricly as a slave's descendent now in charge of defending the soldiers creed, I speak only for myself. It gratifies me greatly to be in a position of power. This is as you would expect is only a rethorical reflection which has come to roost. Please forgive all misspellings for this is not my first language. Yet I try unlike some who say: I alone can fix it.

"I expect TENFOLD all of the respect that is owed to my people who suffered unspeakable horrors at the whim of their oppressors."

There in lies a problem. Expecting something from people. The entitlement mentality is alive and well on planet earth and continues to cause friction and division. Giving ten fold anything to someone based on their demands is more than likely not going to happen. When "respect" is mandated by demand the result is not respect at all. Efforts to enforce and regulate behavior becomes the slavery mention in your hub. Shall we chain people to a post and beat some respect out of them? How long shall we beat them until they have given ten fold? What shall we use to determine who gets the beatings? Who shall administer the corrections?

Slavery had NOTHING to do with the death of your son. And yet you try to tie the two together. You should be ashamed of yourself.
