Tim Tebow's Future in Politics

Updated on February 7, 2012

Earlier in the week, Tim Tebow did an interview with the Golf Channel. Seeing as Tebow is a football star, you would think the conversation would be about football. Or since it is the Golf Channel, maybe they could discuss if Tebow likes to play or watch golf in his free time. However, there are always a few odd questions that delve into the personal life of the interviewee. One such question aimed at Tebow was about his future, and more specifically, he was asked about a possible future in politics.

While it may seem odd to ask Tebow about his future after football when he is still so early in his career, it is really never too early to start thinking about what could be next. Tim Tebow did not give a definitive answer as to whether or not he would like to pursue a career in politics after football. He simply left it open by saying, "It could be something in my future. You know, it's something I also think about and definitely pray about." Like everything else in his life, Tebow will not make the decision without consulting God.

Tebow’s undergraduate degree does have some relation to a possible life in politics. He graduated from the University of Florida in December of 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in family, youth, and community sciences. So while he might not have a degree in political science or some law-related field, his degree is service oriented. Then again, having a degree in a specific area is not really a requirement for a politician.

The possibility of Tebow pursuing a career in politics at some future point is an interesting proposition. However, this would definitely come with very mixed reactions. There seems to be a very diverse crowd when it comes to Tim Tebow. People either love him or hate him; there is not much middle ground or indifference. Tebow has aroused a huge following through his unique style of play and outspoken Christian beliefs. At the same time, his display of faith in God has also turned people vehemently against him.

While it is clearly too early to discuss a possible career in politics for Tebow, it definitely gets one’s mind thinking. His overly conservative views would definitely be too radical for a lot of people. At the same time, he already has name recognition and support through his football fame. Also, Tebow brings something to the table that seems rare with most politicians. He is an honest and genuine person. He might be too real to survive in the world of political piranhas.

It would not be the first time a famous athlete would jump into the political realm. Actors, athletes, and other stars have often used their popularity to pursue a political career. It doesn’t always turn out good since they are usually just elected because of name recognition, but every once in a while, it can turn out to be a positive. It may be quite a few years down the road, but it is definitely intriguing to think about Tim Tebow holding a political office someday.

@KDF - Thanks for the positive comment. The things Tebow has already done outside of football far outweigh his play. I cannot wait to continue to see what else he does.

@The Finance - Thanks for reading and for the suggestions. I will consider what I can do to enhance hubs with some more pictures.

You know my feelings on this don't you Joelipoo? Tebow is a great man and role-model. I'd vote for him for anything he chose to do.

I'm hoping he does a children's foundation or starts up an program for children. Great Hub, Voted up for ya as always!

@RTalloni - I just found it very interesting because I had never thought of Tebow going into politics. It's definitely an interesting topic brought up by the Golf Channel.

Interesting on every level. The piranhas might be shocked to realize that by some standards Tim Tebow isn't especially conservative--although that is not to say that he is not quite conservative by other standards. Whether those who demand so-called tolerance have room in their thinking for a variety of conservative standards is one question that we already know the answer to. Since God can do anything in spite of what any group thinks, it is intriguing to consider this possibility!
