Toxins: Mercury- How Does It Affect Your Health?
How Does Mercury Affect Our Health?
Why Are We Toxic?
No matter where we live on this planet, we are bombarded by toxins all the time- from the air, in the water, in the food we eat, and also in the products that we use to clean our houses and make ourselves beautiful.
This is not news. Since the introduction of pesticides and herbicides in our farming in the sixties, our immune systems have been attacked by a huge number of synthetic chemicals and toxins that they are not designed to cope with. This is now manifesting itself in alarming rises in childhood asthma, allergies, autoimmune disorders and many other diseases and conditions that are currently seen to be unconnected to toxins, such as infertility, ADD, and ADHD, amongst others. However, more and more research is showing the connection between toxins and compromised immune systems, as well as a huge array of diseases that are all on the increase.
What Does Mercury Do To The Body?
Mercury is a naturally occurring heavy metal and we are able to get rid of it from the body in small quantities. However, it has a tendency to accumulate in the body, and is seen to be the cause of neurological problems- the term ‘mad as a hatter’ came into being as the milliners slurred their speech and had tremors.
With the equivalent amount of mercury in a filling as in a thermometer, and mercury being injected into the body as part of vaccines, the average person is well over the recommended safe dose of mercury, if there is such a thing. There is a video at the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology that clearly shows that mercury leaks from silver fillings all the time. It is worth looking at if you are interested- http://iaomt.org/videos/
It is used in vaccines to get the immune system revved up, but at the same time, toxic heavy metals like Mercury are very good at damaging the immune system. The damage that the toxins do to the immune system can last as long as the toxins are still in the body. This can be a lifetime as the body sequesters the toxins to keep itself safe, so they are locked into fat deposits and tissues. As the toxin accumulates, it stimulates the immune system to overreact, and thus it is in constant attack mode, and reactions in the form of allergies and asthma, for example, become more and more severe.
Mercury therefore can be seen to compromise the immune system, and cause it to go into overdrive. It likes to go to the brain, and the fat cells that surround the myelin sheath around the nerves, and so can cause neurological damage and nervous system tissue damage- including Alzheimer’s, A.D.D., Autism and peripheral neuropathy. Mercury has also been linked to depression and to some mental health conditions.
Diseases Associated With A Compromised Immune System
Diseases and conditions linked to a compromised immune system include allergies, asthma, arthritis, autoimmune disorders, cancer, connective tissue disorders, diabetes, eczema, hay fever, inflammatory disorders, and infections.
Health Problems Associated With Mercury Poisoning
Health problems linked to mercury poisoning include excessive saliva flow, inflammation of mouth and gums, irritability, jerky gait, kidney damage, learning disabilities, loosening of teeth, muscle tremors, nervousness, personality changes, pins and needles, spasms of extremities, and swelling of the salivary glands. (All this can be found in the book Toxic Overload by Paula Baillie- Hamilton, M.D., Ph.D.)
Mercury appears in high doses in meaty fish like tuna and salmon, and also in shellfish. As with all food chains, as the smallest member of the food chain is eaten by the next predator up, the absorption rate of the toxin increases, and continues to do so up the food chain. This is why the large fish like tuna have such a high level of mercury as they are the top of the food chain.
Research is showing that animals at the top of the food chains are increasingly struggling to produce male offspring- the heavy metals and toxins are affecting the fertility of animals like whales and polar bears and there is increasing evidence that female offspring are being born far more often than males, which has implications for the continuation of the species. The toxins interfere with the hormonal processes and mimic reactions and functionality and can therefore contribute to or cause infertility and female only births.
What Can You Do To Rid Your Body Of The Mercury?
Stewart A. Lonky M.D., said “Because chemical and toxin exposures are impossible to avoid, and because the accumulation of these toxins definitely have health consequences, I believe that the use of a chelating and detoxifying agent such as activated liquid zeolite should be a part of every person’s daily regimen. There is no better gift you can give yourself and your loved ones.”
