Trump Calls Antifa a Terrorist Group
Because there have been some Antifa persons identified in the BLM movement and others where there has been violence against the establishment, President Trump calls them a "terrorist group".
But experts indicate that Antifa (short for anti-fascist) is really nothing new in history. Similar groups opposed Hitler in 1932-33 with similar anger and unrest only to be banned and members jailed. In the 60's, the SDS (students for democratic society) opposed the establishment on a host of issues that united young people against the Vietnam war and racial injustices. Both of these were more centralized and funded than Antifa, which despite what the right wing nutcases state, comprises of random and local groups aligned with BLM and others. There is no central leader or geographic place.
Antifa is a useful umbrella term that denotes a broad spectrum of groups and individuals of far-left or anarchist tendencies. Despite what Trump says and thinks, it in a sense, it is a myth because it is not a centralized organization or entity. This could be just semantics to some because right wing news always portrays the situation in Seattle and Portland as a result of Antifa becoming involved because a few known members of it have shown their faces there. The few does not represent the many.
There are many more angry BLM members who are becoming more violent and more destructive, just like the SDS (who actually bombed Federal buildings) in the 60's.
Antifa is a movement that focuses on issues involving racism, sexism, and anti-Semitism, white supremacy. If there is any sort of centralization, they may have small cells within certain communities but not in every community. If there is violence in a peaceful demonstration it most likely could be Antifa members or sympathizers causing mayhem and destruction. This is certainly the case with over 61 days of violence and chaos in Portland, Oregon and in Seattle, where elements took over a city block.
Like members of the KKK, their true beliefs and motives are secret from public view in daily life until the cell gathers for a protest with other objectives in mind other than peace.
