Up The Down Spout
There once was a candidate extraordinary.
There once was a candidate extraordinary,
Who defied the term "just ordinary."
He told it like it is.
He didn't mince his words.
He stressed issues more than just fluffery.
Is this year just "more of the same"?
When you are looking for changes, don't elect candidates who can't address the changes you want made. Politics is about making voters happy until they cast their votes. Later? All bets are off!
What is meant by "Up The Down Spout"?
Let's describe it this way. Words, ads, publicity, speeches, flyers, etc. are what is coming down the next election spout.
Where truth is to be found is back at the beginning, back where the candidates are coming from. Truth is to be found by finding their values, their education, their careers, how they manage and treat their family obligations, and what people who know them well and personally have to say about them as to their strengths and about their weaknesses.
It's just too easy to get flooded at the bottom of that promotional dribble, and just really hard to find out what a good private detective could spell out for you.
Oh yes, there will be the surfacing of any scandals. All that will be dragged out or hushed up, but we are not looking for "the perfect man or woman." We are looking for an honest employee who will show up on time, do the assigned job, and go home with a clear conscience.
If we are truly fortunate, we will elect candidates who show some ingenuity, dedicate their time to making needed improvements, and show some heart and compassion in the process.
If candidates are chosen in a popularity contest, we will end up with candidates who spend the most, have the best public relations firm, are the most photogenic , and are glib speakers who stick to the script their advisers spelled out as "the way to win."
And, what America will get will be "winners" who followed in the footsteps of the politicians who won the same way and spent all that money to feather their own nests and burnish their own egos.
Can informed voters who make the climb up the down spout really elect quality, maverick candidates who can change the status quo? The answer is "No," if the informed voters don't inform other serious voters, and work to get such potential voters out to vote in the voting booth.
Activism is what it takes to go up the down spout.
