Finding Freedom

Updated on March 23, 2015

First Steps to Creating a Better World

I never thought I could find freedom. I was wrong. This freedom has given me the ability to love myself, forgive myself and others and start to love others the way they are. I have found a purpose in life that is much bigger than me. Making the world a better place by attempting daily to add to people's lives, not take.

In finding this freedom first and foremost I have to be completely honest with myself about who I am. For me, I had to write it down. What were the facts, not my opinions about my life from beginning to the end. I started with birth, parents, childhood, school, abuse, starting from birth to the present.

For example, I drank alcohol when I was 13 years old, got drunk and attempted to open a bear bottle on a rock that resulted in having to go to the emergency room and receive stitches. This is the fact. My opinion would be that because my parents continued to move every three years when I was a child is why I was so miserable that it made me drink.

There is a huge difference between the two. It's not easy to do. I have actually found very few people who can be this honest without including their opinions, bias or perceptions into the mix. Which is why after doing this I had to find someone I could trust. It was important that this person was of the same sexual preference in order for both parties to honestly evaluate wether it was facts or some opinions. It was also important that this person had been through this process themselves. After going through the process is the only way to truly not judge. It was suggested that if need be I could go to the priest at my church or the pastor, if that was the only person I trusted to not judge.

It is essential to be thorough, even if you think it doesn't matter... If you want to find freedom, happiness and make a difference in the world, it is essential that this be done and done this way. Not done in your own way, or a variation of this way.

If you are taking the time to read this try to be open minded to the possibilities that maybe your way hasn't been making you happy and that maybe there is a way to find freedom and happiness if you just give it a chance.

It takes time to write, but it's worth it and what's more important than you being happy with who you are becoming? I strive to be a better person on a day to day basis. I am not perfect and I am 100 percent ok with that. I have forgiven myself for the things I have done, I am truly humble with who I am. The result of this has been that I am ok with most others the way that they are. I can have empathy, acceptance and love others because of the work I have done on myself.

This is only the beginning. There is more work to be done.... I look forward to posting the next part of this process.... If everyone could find this kind of freedom...... Wow!! The news around the globe would not be so depressing, hopeless and overwhelming!!

Stay tuned for more!!
