I was at my grandparent’s house when they announced the presidency of Barack Obama. A shout of joy filled the house when the announcement was made: “Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States of America.” As I looked over at my grandfather, who was once a victim of racial hate crimes, tears swelled in his eyes as he smiled and looked down at me. He said, “We did it… We did it.” During this time I was fresh out of high school and Obama is what the young people called “cool.” Unlike other presidents, he was involved. He was on TV shows like Ellen and MTV. He ate McDonalds, went to “the hood”; he was just an all the round cool guy and most of my class voted him into office. As a matter of fact he was the first president I ever voted for. And it made me and my black family proud to have a black man in office in contrast to our ancestors in chains 200 years before.
But that was four years ago. We are now in the year of 2012. President Barack Obama is running for another term against the Republican Party. Despite what many Americans may believe, President Obama has accomplished a lot over the past three years. Glastris (2012) states that “Obama has accomplished more in three years than any other president could do” (para. 1). The United States of America should keep him in office because he helped the auto industry, he created a health care reform, he is a supporter of education, and he also captured and killed America’s sworn enemy, Osama Bin Laden. Despite what some Americans my think, he has my vote!
According to “Who Is BARACK OBAMA?” (2009), Barack Hussein Obama Jr. was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, born August 4, 1961. He studied at Harvard Law School. Obama is also a child of a black father and white mother. I do not understand how people intend to refer to him as the first black president of the United States of America when in fact he is not fully black. Like myself, President Obama is a mulatto (half black, half white). He spent his life mostly around white people and he was raised by his white mother and grandparents. President is married to First Lady, Michelle Obama, and they have two daughters together, Malia and Sasha. From watch numerous programs, speeches, TV shows, etc., I can say that the president is funny, he loves to play basketball, he likes to dance, and he can sing just like Al Green! And many will agree that Barack is a very handsome man as well. Among his many person gifts, he also has the job of being the President of the United States of America. And he does his job very well.
Obama’s Auto Industry Bailout
President Barack Obama saved the United States’ auto industry. Some Americans (Republicans) wanted them to go bankrupt. According to Petry’s (2011) reference to the White House Report, Obama knew that the American auto industry employed many workers (para. 7). Republicans say that President Barack Obama did not raise the job deficit. Yet, “if GM and Chrysler had not received the aid, ‘at least 1 million jobs could have been lost,’ the report said, straining the government's ability to provide a social safety net for these workers” (Petry, para. 10). Also, after emerging from bankruptcy in June 2009, GM and Chrysler created and saved 20,000 more jobs by investments that totaled over $8 billion at their U.S. Facilities (Petry, para. 12). Republicans were afraid of what the expense would mean for out tax payers. But of the $80 billion that the federal government provided the auto industry, $40 billion was returned to the taxpayers thus far (Petry, para. 13-14). President Barack Obama’s plan of the auto industry bailout was a complete success that should be recognized and appreciated for what it means for our country.
I recently saw a commercial on TV where a man was forced to make a choice: eat, or pay for his medications. On a personal note, my mother is very sick. She has been struggling with her health for decades and even before I was born. Her medication and the cost to stay alive are scarce. Medications are expensive and the cost to be treated at a hospital and/or have surgery is costly also. We needed a way to keep her alive for as long as possible. Thank God for the Health Care Reform! According to J.P. Hicks (2012), President Barack Obama's reforms made health care affordable for millions of Americans (para. 9). The plan increases the number of people who can attain treatment. Hicks (2012) states that, “[The health care reform] prevents insurers from denying coverage based on preexisting conditions, illuminating a problem that was particularly vexing in Black and Latino communities.” The health care reform plan, sometimes referred to as ObamaCare, protects the patient. It has also helped me and my family a great deal. I am sure Obama’s plan for health care has or will help you and your family as well.
Obama Supports Education
Many American citizens can agree that education is very important for the future of our country. Even more, employing teachers is equally important. According to the U.S. Department of Education (n.d.), President Barack Obama stated:
“From the moment students enter a school, the most important factor in their success is not the color of their skin or the income of their parents, it’s the person standing at the front of the classroom... America’s future depends on its teachers. That is why we are taking steps to prepare teachers for their difficult responsibilities and encouraging them to stay in the profession. That is why we are creating new pathways to teaching and new incentives to bring teachers to schools where they are needed most.” March 10, 2009
The U.S. Department of Education also states that President Barack Obama re-designed the No Child Left Behind Act that was forced by Former President, George W. Bush, and is enforced the Race to the Top action that involves America to be more educated. The president’s plan also ensures that 1.6 million teacher will be hired within the next ten years; this in turn adds more jobs positions to the ones mentioned above.
On a personal note, I am studying in college to be an English Teacher. I am also a mother and I, along with many American citizens, want our children to have the best education this country has to offer. President Barack Obama’s goal is for teachers to receive high-quality preparation which in turn will offer students with the teachers they deserve.
War on Iraq
Almost 11 years ago, the United States underwent a traumatic incident. September 11, 2001: Terrorist attack on the Twin Towers of NYC. Two planes crashed into the towers one after another causing hundreds of people to die. Within the buildings as well as the enforcements that tried to save their lives. Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, husbands, wives, fiancés, and cousins banished forever in the ashes of the Twin Towers. Americans and the world cried out over this harrowing experience. And since that day America would never be the same. Osama Bin Laden was the mastermind being the terrorist attacks. The United States of America went into war under President Bush. Thousands of American soldiers fought and died during the war as we tried so desperately to end terrorism. The economy fell as we were on the verge of undergoing our second Great Depression. And by the time Bush left the White House, The United States of America was at its peak of economic downfall. There was a serious cry out for change in this country. This Barack Obama came and saved us all.
The killing if Osama Bin Laden was the icing on the cake. He ordered the SEALS to attack Bin Laden’s compound which killed him. There was an over pour of joy across the world. Osama Bin Laden’s death could never replace the many deaths he had cause around the world. But Obama did bring a sense of peace across the nation as 9/11 could finally be laid down to rest. Once again, President Obama made a promise to America, sought out to accomplish it, and succeeded abundantly.
Obama vs. Romney
If America is not going to vote Barack Obama a second term in 2012, then who are they going to vote for? Mitt Romney? Mitt Romney is most likely going to be the Republican candidate running against the president. According to International Business Times, Romney is booming on the split and rule strategy, and does not seem to be able of enticing conservatives (para. 4). Obama is a better debater campaigner then Romney (para. 6). Although unemployment is still at recession levels, many jobs have been saved and created since the president took office (para. 7). Race also plays an important role in presidency. The president has the vote of the minorities of the country. And the “dog on top of the car incident” is sure to scare away the pet lover’s vote. He is forever bashing Barack Obama and even spits out a couple of lies on top of that. Many American’s agree that his good looks are not everything to get into the White House and he is going to have to pull off a lot in the next few months to win the election of 2012 against Obama.
Vote for Obama!
Many would agree that the toughest and most difficult job in the United States of America would be the presidential position. If the country is doing well the president is to blame. But, if the country is doing badly, the president is to blame also despite what mishaps may have occurred before the president took office. Despite what a few American’s may think about President Barack Obama, he is a great leader of this country. Barack Obama is an all-around good guy. He is a husband, a father; a family man. He relates to the people and is a supporter of the middle class and believes in equal opportunity. The president created and saved millions of jobs by saving the auto industry, and putting a prime focus on education and its teachers. The President has helped millions of people with their health care with ObamaCare. Barack Obama ended the war against Iraq, and sent thousands of soldiers home to their families. He raided and killed America’s sworn enemy, Osama Bin Laden, and brought peace to the country. Barack Obama was left to clean up the garbage that Formal President George W. Bush left behind. And although the job deemed as impossible, he is fixing the recession one step at a time. I respect Obama for his honesty.
I remember watching a speech and he said that a miracle isn’t going to happen overnight. Yet, he has accomplished more in three years then a man could accomplish in eight years. The 2012 election is more than Republicans versus Democrats. The election is more than Obama versus Romney. This election has the lives of the citizens of the United States of America in its hands. His job is not finished yet. If he can accomplish this much in three years, imagine what he can accomplish in eight. Vote responsibly! Vote intelligently! Vote Obama for president in 2012!
