Vacationing On Someone's Dime Besides Your Own (Poll)

Updated on July 20, 2012

How many vacations a year has your family been able to afford since Obama took office in January of 2009? More than one a year? Do you feel that you earned it even if you only got to one during that period where the Obama's have taken 16? I don't begrudge anyone their vacation time but I do have certain expectations when it comes to elected officials and their spouses in particular. If you take time off then I expect to see the results of the hard work to earn it. Or maybe you can take the attitude that "If I got elected I didn't do that. Somebody else did that for me." I know where Obama got his penchant for spending other people's money so easily like there is no bottom to the bank account. He got it from Moochelle.

This is not to say that any President won't spend money traveling. It comes with the job. But is Moochelle the President? Here's my rub with all of this vacationing I see going on in the White House. There are about 23 million Americans out of work or underemployed. That's a statistic that is stuck to the Obama reign so don't even go there. He has been unable to bring unemployment down below 8% despite the constant jiggering of the numbers by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

After all of his bungling on the job he is now known as "The Undisputed Debt King." He has amassed more debt than all of them combined and his vacation costs seem in line with having that title in history truth be known. The media just made a big to do about the Romney's vacationing in New Hampshire. I can bet that Mitt paid for that vacation, not the tax payers.

Judicial Watch just finally got an answer to their FOIA request regarding the tax payer cost of Moochelle's tribes President's Day soiree this past February. The Whine House is known to stonewall FOIA requests being the transparent administration that it is now known to be. I sense a "get it while we can" mentality surrounding the lavish spending I see the Obama's doing in bad financial times for the rest of the nation. I find that a bit disconcerting because Obama likes to talk about tightening our belts, reducing spending and so forth and so on without evidently thinking of how this appears to average people in this nation who are having to forego vacations entirely.

Just the little weekend Aspen jaunt cost the US tax payers a measly $83,182.99 according to records released to Judicial Watch. That may be measly in Moochelle's eyes but that isn't her money she is spending as usual. That's just the tip of the $1 million iceberg that Moochelle has racked up at tax payer expense for just three of the 16 vacations taken so far. Has anyone told these people that our nation is facing an economic cliff? They have to be aware of that.

Congress has been hammering away at a few executive branch agencies for lavish, wasteful spending. Maybe they need to turn the spy glass onto the White House too. In 2011 Moochelle jetted her family and staff to South Africa and Botswana. Why? The trip was "to encourage young people living in the two growing democracies to become involved in national affairs.” According to Judicial Watch just the cost of the aircraft used came to $424,142. This was the trip where the Obama's daughters were listed as "Senior Staff." Along on the free ride were Moochelle's mother, her niece and nephew (on her side) and her hair sytlist and makeup artist. Anyone smelling abuse here besides me? Yeppers! She knows how to milk the cow. Judicial Watch is still waiting for the additional expenses to be released. There's this transparency issue evidently...

Then we have the jaunt to Spain. In August of 2010, the Missus took one of their daughters, two of her friends with four of their daughters and off they flew to Spain. Details made me grab my calculator. Cost of the 17 hour and fifteen minutes of flying time was $199,323.75. Wouldn't first class commercial have been a little more cost effective? We also paid for the 15 member flight crews accommodations to the tune of $10,290.60 and $2,633.50 for their rental cars. Food costs on the ground for the crew was a mere $876.30.But hang on the bill continues.

Secret Service records obtained report costs of $254,461.20. Not bad for one trip huh? Interesting to note the Secret Service was billed $26,670.61 for a chauffered tour of Costa del Sol and even more interesting was billed $50,078.78 for a travel planning company. When this last tidbit was discovered the ownership of the travel agency was looked into. It seems that Uncle George Soros is a 50% owner of said company. Nothing odoriferous about that to my liberal readers I'm sure, just a coincidence.

According to my calculator those costs alone are $517,664.13.

I Know. I Know...

When was the last time you took a vacation?

See results

Folks I don't know about you but I don't think I can afford the Obama clan and their vacation habits. I'm trying to scrape together enough of my own pennies to take a short vacation that I haven't had for a few years. But one thing I do know. Obama is good at preaching austerity. I'd like for him to set the example for the rest of the nation but maybe that is asking too much from the President of the United States.

Or maybe it is that Obama can't control his wife who herself just came around to being proud of this country. Maybe that's too much to ask too...

We can't afford the Obama's any longer. He's added $5 trillion and counting to our national debt and he and his wife spend like a drunken sailor on shore leave every time they go on any type of vacation and 16 times in less than 4 years seems a bit excessive.

As Always,

The Frog Prince

Remember In November!

drbj - I know it must be hard to squeeze 16 vacations into over 100 rounds of golf. Yes, the Obama's will be more than legends in their own minds when we evict them from The People's House.

tom - Or Bush spending time at the ranch here in Texas. He paid the bills there, not the tax payer.

Why are you begrudgng the Great One his 16 vacations, Jim? He needs that much relaxation because he works so hard and accomplishes so much in between. So much debt and unemploment and higher taxes, that is.

And Michelle needs all those vacations because shopping in between is so taxing. (You can read that part any way you like.)

I took two "away from home" vacations and three "at home" vacations in a day-job working life that spanned some 48 years (before being forcibly retired after my last job got Obamified in early 2009). None of them did me much good, except for the one I used to hunt for another job.

But I'd love to see Barack and Michelle fighting the way my first wife and I did on our most, um "memorable" vacation. I left a small tip at a restaurant table...and caught her scooping it off the table, into her purse.

Guess we'll have to settle for scooping the OBAMAS off the table and back to Chicago....

Excellent Jim :) but look at the plus side In December the Ms. will still be in "expensive vacation" mode and he will have to foot the bill and the 'if mama aint happy, nobody's happy" will apply. I just wish he would have taken a REAL long vacation a few years ago

The only trips I make are around the block to the grocery store. And, guess what, Frog Prince, I can't have everything I want there either. Great point! It certainly struck a nerve with me.

Can't remember my last "vacation." As to the Obamas -- well, their vacation habits pretty much match-up with everything else they've done since in office. Super Hub -- loved it! Best/Sis

You haven't seen anything yet. Wait and see if he is re-elected, they will surely take as many vacations as they can.

I was able to take a week at HH with the family, and we all divided the price of the house. That's the extent of my vacation this year.

      Voted you up!!!!

SassySue - Evidently this is your first experience with Whimsy. He often misses the entire point of what he considers "petty nonsense." Though I usually figure anything coming out of The Whimsy One on par with "The One." His replies usually only make sense to himself though he does have a certain amount of entertainment value.

@WoW Why is it petty? I'd really like to know especially in light of the fact that this Administration now has their little "tax penalty" with ObamaCare that will hit middle class, who simply cannot afford it and wants to raise taxes on anyone making over $250,000. Yet they're out there spending tax dollars on such "petty nonsense". Does the First Lady need a few more vacations a year? Is that why taxes must be raised? It is indeed not petty at all and not what our tax dollars are intended for.

Thanks for dropping by Whimsy Britches. We thought you might have found a new sandbox to play in. You must be one of those 50% who pay no income taxes?

Wayne - Played golf and since they last met he has done 100 plus fund raisers. We all should see what his priority is - keeping his own job.

Hey, Frog...I just heard yesterday that the President's Commission on Job Creation has not met a single time since before January 2012 yet Obama has played golf 106 times. You have to understand that "we" are the "peasant masses" to the these people who consider themselves royalty and far above any expectations of our lowly class. Besides, when you have the election in the they say in Chicago-style politics, you don't have to give a damn. I am reminded of Harry Truman who paid for all his meals out of pocket when traveling and then upon leaving office drove himself and his wife home in the family car at his own expense. Man, was Harry ever the stupid one! WB

Frog Prince, I don't think these people really know the concept of setting a good example. While the rest of the economy and the people are suffering and cutting back on spending, respectively, the Obama's are out there living lavishly like royalty, hobnobbing with the elite, and behaving like the elites themselves. And of course, this is mostly on taxpayer money. And even if they say they pay for their own vacation, the logistical costs of providing security wherever they go is enormous.

I'm guessing that they are living a life they've always dreamed of. Fortunately, come next January 2013, (and this is heavy duty positive/optimistic thinking) they'll be packing to leave for a permanent vacation out of the white house. Then maybe Michelle can finally stop complaining about not being able to do anything without the secret service always being around.

Sixteen vacations in less than four year while the average worker gets only one a year. Why does Michelle Obama persist in acting like a dictator's wife? Spending other people's money without any thought to how much work went into earning that tax dollar. Shameful!

      Dear Frog Prince,

We are the Obama's piggybank and what fun they are having at our expense. If he get re-elected in November, we are doomed. What will it take for people to understand how dangerous this guy is? Up, interesting useful, awesome but not funny or beautiful!

      Hi Frog,

I take a 3-4 day local vacation (i.e., within a couple hundred miles by car) once a year, and every 5-10 years or so, I take a major 1-2 week trip (either to the national parks in the US West or Europe). Of course, I pay for them myself. While I admit I do splurge on nice hotels and food, I do it with modest frequency, and of course I don't ask for taxpayer funds to reimburse me, nor would I accept it if it was offered.

Getting an oocaisional break is important. It clears your mind, and freshens you up. It sort of knocks the cobwebs out of your brain. But really, each person should pay for their own trips. It's more fair to others, and you appreciate it more.
