The #walkaway Movement, America’s Salvation or Insignificant Fad?

Updated on July 29, 2018

I grew up on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and currently reside in Florida.

Despite what has appeared to be a mustering of an ideological frenzy from Progressive Democrats, the support that they have garnered to their cause seems limited to a portion of Americans whose numbers seem to be growing smaller. Truth is, most Americans are really not ideologically motivated, they just want to get on with life and be left in peace.

Two things ALL voters (well, those of sane and rational temperment) want is safety for themselves (and their family) and enough money to pay their bills and put food in their bellies, in effect we are all products of the market economy.

Our market economy teaches us to work with people and to trust them. Other people are potential customers, suppliers, and business partners. Compromise, customer satisfaction, and benefiting all parties involved are common practices.

Politics on the other hand, is all about trying to focus people on things that create division, of heightening differences, of finding a way to damn the ‘opposition’ and paint them as ‘evil’ or at the very least, the ones causing your life to be difficult.

Success in politics comes from the art of division, of motivating your side to turn out on election day and demoralizing the opposition so that they barely dare to show their heads.

Today we have politicians like Maxine Waters telling people to attack Trump supporters anywhere they are found, we have business owners throwing Trump supporters out of their restaurants and shops.

This is in direct opposition to what creates success in business and society. To succeed in business you want the whole world to come to your door, and you want to expand your world so that everyone likes you and trusts you.

Currently in America, more and more people who are not ideologically motivated are being forced to go in one of two directions. If you are most influenced by the team culture of business and the market economy, where cooperation and working with everyone is most important, you aren’t being given much choice as to who to support.

And this forced choice-making is where the #Walkaway movement is coming from, people who have liberal and caring beliefs are being forced to accept the unacceptable by the current Democrat/Progressive narratives.

Below are some examples of those who have turned from the Democratic Party.

David Harris Jr. supports #walkaway

At some point, in each and every case, they were either confronted by or forced to confront a lie that was so obvious, so ignorant, that they had to question what it was they were being asked to believe. Or they were attacked, labeled or ostracized by people they felt close to for voicing an opinion. Whether a CNN report or a nonsensical rant by a politician like Nancy Pelosi, or an outright attack on them by a 'Progressive', the process that led them to the #walkaway decision began.

One young man's #walkaway story

For one party it seems, you aren't allowed to have a middle of the road, rational viewpoint on the border, you are either for open borders, the abolishment of ICE, and the acceptance of all ‘illegal aliens’ no matter what crimes they have been found in a court of law to have committed against others, or you are ‘the enemy’.

Or, as another example, you either see Trump as the embodiment of racist, sexist evil of the worst magnitude and want him Impeached immediately (or worse) or you are his supporter and must be silenced (or thrown out). One side of the political discourse in our country has no grey area anymore in their politics, you either support their every position, or you will be treated as ‘the enemy’.

And people of all types of race, sex, creed, orientation are being confronted with this all-or-nothing attitude. Creating #walkaway moments and mindsets.

Affecting All Generations

Where does the Democratic Party really stand?

What vision do they have for America?

What are they fighting for other than open borders and the removal of Trump?

Who will step forward and define the Party?

Until they define themselves as something more than the party that hates Trump and anyone that supports him, I expect to see the #walkaway trend continue, as more and more people reject what the Democratic Party, in all its forms, currently stands for.

Ken.....Thank you for alerting me to The Death of Europe and the fascinating Youtube interview. Thus far, I have watched 18 minutes of it. I intend to finish it, naturally.. Obviously, America is on the same tragic trajectory as Europe. Douglass Murray is a brilliant, insightful man, to say the least. I am deeply grateful for this nugget of gold.

      Yves thank you.

Speaking of videos worth a watch the below is from an interview with the author of The Death of Europe.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQXHc-tJMXM

While discussing the problems the EU faces, he touched on an interesting subject, of how the deranged has become the norm, how we are essentially told to lie to ourselves.

That man is not a man, he is a girl because he wants to be a girl.

That brilliant scientist who won international acclaim for his break-through is first and foremost not a intellect, he is a black man, socially disadvantaged and discriminated against. Even if that is not how he sees himself, in fact, if he were to challenge that label he would be ostracized or punished.

"We are going through a great derangement. People are behaving in ways that are completely irrational, feverish, herd-like and simply unpleasant."

The Nations of Europe, and America itself, are essentially finished. It might not be so clear to you, as we are in the midst of the collapse, but the end result is Western Civilization's demise/disappearance.

Look at how ineffectual they have been able to make the President, one judge after another in lower (meaningless) courts puts a stay on his every decision, his every act.

Send money to fix the border, its blocked by a lower court. Trump wants the census to ask whether a citizen or not, blocked. Crackdown on sanctuary cities, blocked.

The House Democrats have forfeited all efforts to govern or work for the people, they are intent only on Impeaching Trump, and protecting their own from having their corruption exposed.

The media and politicians care more about a man being able to use a girls room, because he identifies as a girl, than if China is surpassing us on the world stage, and has set things up so it can collapse our economy at any time. Probably because most of them, like Biden, are on China's payroll.

The leaders in D.C. and the leaders of the EU work tirelessly toward our self-destruction as a state and society. And if you question it, if you point it out, you will be outcast or ruined.

A fantastic article, Ken. I get tired, sometimes, of being rejected and maligned outright because I am a conservative. The excessive hate from Liberals is damaging this country. Knowing that the WalkAway Movement is changing minds gives me a glimmer of hope.

Your article is worth reading again. So enjoyed the video of the woman who used to be a die-hard Liberal. Perhaps I will watch more videos like them.

Paula, great story contribution. I'd heard a part of it, but not the full account.

I received this in my email this evening. It is worth sharing here, since we're discussing what liberals want.

      Food for thought …

I hope a lot of modern day Democrats read and understand.

This explains why Socialism won't work, and always fails.

      Is this man a genius?

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on this plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

      1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

      2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

      3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

      4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

      5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Can you think of a reason for not sharing this?

      Neither could I.

      Paula,

Thank you for the compliment, I hope you are right, I hope after two years of twisting facts and unglued rants more people can see the truth of things.

Ken.....In my neck of the woods, there are literally throngs walking away. I couldn't be more pleased. I'm also not particularly surprised. It was months ago that I realized the libs were seriously doing themselves in.....causing much self-inflicted damage they would not be able to back away from at some point.

At the end of the day, regardless of what we're discussing, people can only beat a dead horse for so long, fabricate drama & twist situations, act like lunatics & cause chaos ....before the masses begin to see the huge bright light......and remove themselves from all of it! Even when things appear to be really bleak, it seems rational, decent & honest individuals, will ultimately do the right thing.

The walk-away activities can only increase. Great article, Ken. Peace, Paula

      Tamara,

You pretty much nailed it, its hard to pin what the Democratic Party stands for exactly these days, but it definitely is a combination of SJW, anti-patriarchal/WesternCiv, anti-law/border, and an overall attitude that if you are not with them, you are against them.

The 'Left' currently embodies a very scary mindset that wants to silence all opposition, and destroy the very pillars of what our culture has always been about. As more and more people realize that the Democratic Party today stands for the absolute destruction of America as a Nation, its Constitution, and its Culture, they either embrace this destructive mindset or they 'walk away'.

I think it represents moderate liberals turning away from illiberal liberals, social justice peacocks, who have taken over the Democrat Party. These liberal bullies call moderate liberals like Dave Rubin, Scott Adams and Kanye West all kinds of slurs. And their sin is simply saying let's not advocate oppression and bigotry in the name of fairness (Rubin), let's think of what works versus what looks good (Adams) and let's work with the guy in power to get things done that benefit everyone or groups the DNC didn't care to do more than harvest votes (West).

Social justice is the religious right of the political left. Their shaming/shunning tactics are straight out of 1700s Puritan practice but without the constraints of people who have to live alongside their victims the next day. Their witch hunts for the unbeliever and the new blasphemy laws (anything contrary to SJW dogma is hate speech and forbidden) are the signs of a political movement invested with religious levels of devotion.

B: No one cares, and it is impressed in your first three paragraphs.

"Despite what has appeared to be a mustering of an ideological frenzy from Progressive Democrats, the support that they have garnered to their cause seems limited to a portion of Americans whose numbers seem to be growing smaller. Truth is, most Americans are really not ideologically motivated, they just want to get on with life and be left in peace.

      b:

The voter turn out in one of the most important elections in recent times could get

"There were about 130M votes cast in the 2012 Presidential election, and about a 54.9% voter turnout, which would suggest a total number of eligible voters of about 236.8M."

      100 million didn't care!

      --------------------------------

Two things ALL voters (well, those of sane and rational temperament) want is safety for themselves (and their family) and enough money to pay their bills and put food in their bellies, in effect we are all products of the market economy."

      B:

How does that distill into what is their basis of actually casting their vote. Loyal party members of either party are vote Row A or Row B voters. That is something monkeys could do, but they would do it for a banana reward, and if they voted and didn't get a banana they would vote differently next time.

Over 63 million voters cast their vote for Hillary and the democrats, did they use the criteria that you mentioned here? I don't think so, it was vote Row A all the way.

      --------------------------

My point is that with the low voter turnout and the stakes of the election being so high resonates more with loyal party voting, and vote Row X. This is just one step higher that not voting, and both show they don't care. The people that did care were the independents as they didn't give blind loyalty, they looked and weighed their voting choices. It is not a question of whether they were right or wrong, only that they had an intelligent process to vote. They cared to make their vote count. That is why every presidential election weighs heavily on a relatively small number of people to actually select the next president.

In my opinion, the root cause of the problems in our government is based on the absolute loyalty of democrat and republican voters that allow the party to control who they put before the voters. Yes, the voters can choose their candidate but they were given the choices by their party.

So all the other attributes, and criteria that you mention in your article are condensed into the simpler form of I don't care about details, policies and all the rest, I vote Row X.

The democrats and republicans keep going to their further extremes making it impossible for the bilateral congress to come to an agreement. This is enabled by the support of their loyal party voters, but if these loyal party voters would become independent voters, then the parties would have to woo them.

Those are some of my reasons why I say no one cares.

      Thanks for asking.

I agree Ken, as targeted as Trump has been since day one, he is keeping promises made to all voters and there is no denying that our economy is thriving!

But, as you stated, "the inability of young people to think and rationalize...review" etc. prevents them from seeing the big picture. They are much too busy chasing the shiny objects. (not sure what's going on with those middle-aged and older....that should know better!)

Thanks for the mention of my article!

      @AB

I wonder how many are being attracted by the open call for fullblown Socialism some of the newer Politicians have adopted actually is. In your own article on the matter you noted "many are currently out and about 'Glamming Up' Socialism...Democratic Socialism, Progressivism, Lovable Communism"

I don't believe many young Americans are turned off by it, in fact many have probably been indoctrinated into believing it is far better than our current system. I always find this particularly interesting, as every Socialist/Communist nation that is around today, or had been, was a far less free and viable society than the one we currently have.

The inability of young people to think and rationalize, review facts and parse their own ideas seems to be at an all time high, and this combined with other factors (like tens of millions of illegal aliens being given the right to vote) may doom our nation to a dire future a few years down the road.

Good Morning Ken - Democrats do not stand for anything, so, as the song says, they 'Fall for anything'.

That truth has never been more evident than it is today, in the age of Trump.

While I've been disappointed with the Republican Party...often, (many members have never had Trump's back) as a Party, they actually stand firmly for many things and that doesn't change day by day, with the wind.

I agree with you, many will continue to #walkaway from the Democratic Party. I do not believe the Party is salvageable at this point.

The only enthusiasm shown is within the socialist wing and it doesn't look as if this group even claims the Democratic Party. I guess they too #walkedaway....but straight into the lion's den.
