What is happening in Italy
Welcome to our article (96) what is happening in Italy today
Dear readers, I have not been able to write about what is happening in Italy for a while, but because there are important things happening, I am going to write a few articles about it now. I am writing my views in my personal diary because I want to keep trek when these things have happened. Now, this is month of November 2019, while I am writing this article.
Anyhow, it has been about eighteen months since the Italian general elections. And today when we see the Italian news, we feel that they are still doing the same old things, the people and the politicians are arguing a lot and achieving very little. The elections have changed a few things, but not that much.
The refugees are arriving again in large number, after a slow down, that was caused from the interior minister Matteo Salvini, who blocked the boats coming to disembark in Italy. Now Matteo Salvini has been removed from that office, and the new minister let them come in, the only gains here is that some people, may start thinking that they can speak out, and somebody may even listen to their views. But let us see what is happening in Italy today, that we want to understand and follow.
----------------------------
Things that need to be fixed and told
In Italy like everywhere else, the global warming is affecting the way of life, Today the high tide is affecting Venice. Of course, this has happened before, but not so often as it is happening now. Anyhow, over twenty years ago they started this project called Moses, that aims at stopping the high tide coming into Venice; I believe they have called it Moses, because Moses with the help of Yahweh, was able to hold the water of the Red Sea back, until all the Israelites crossed the Sea; in a similar way, they want to hold back the king tides to enter Venice, with a mechanical barrier that will rise from the sea, and then lower it down when the tide is over. Anyhow, this project that they have started, has had many problems, so, it is not working yet, but they believe it will be finished and working in 2021.
I hope it works after they fix any mistakes and finish it, so that Venice can last several more decade. Because I believe that if the global warming forecast is correct and the sea level can rise 1.4 metres, then even this barrier may not be enough to save Venice.
Anyhow, in Italy this and many other things need to be fixed, but the politicians talk and argue passing the buck and blaming each other, and only a few things are done, when there is a lot to be done; so, let us mention a few other things hereunder.

Shortlist of the Italian problems
Today in Italy, they have many refugees to help, many Italian refugees from the earthquake of 2016 are still homeless, the refugees that continue to come from overseas need to be helped; if they don’t receive enough help, they will become robbers and may turn violent, so, it is better if they can be helped when they arrive, then they must work out if they are refugees and move them to other countries that accepts them. .
Then, as we have said above, they have the problem in Venice, also in Italy has been raining a lot, there are floods and there are landslides in many places; In Matera, this is a city in southern Italy, they lament that they need help, but not much outside help is arriving, they feel forgotten, they see that most of the help is going to Venice, but what about us they say. They are right; You see, today I found a post in Facebook, where it was saying that in Venice, they are giving 20,000 Euros for damages to shopkeepers, and 5,000 to individuals, meanwhile in Matera they are giving a broom a bucket and a mop, to clean the damage from the torrential rain.
Anyhow, these are only some of the problems. But there is another important one in Taranto, that I need to talk about hereunder.
--------------------
Taranto the city that is dangerous to live in.
The city of Taranto problem
To understand this issue, we need to give a short explanation first. In Southern Italy there are less industries than Norden Italy, there is a lot of unemployment, so, jobs are very important to preserve. One of the few industries in the south is this massive steel refinery that employs about 10,000 people. Now they want to close it, because the price of steel has gone down, also, they need to upgrade it to an acceptable environment standard. The air is too dirty, and too many people are sick, so, they need to do something about it. So, everybody is upset, and they don’t even know what to do. People are waiting for direction from the central government, hoping that they talk with the CEO of the company to find a solution. They have started talking, but so far, nobody knows what is happening.
Anyhow, you must click and read, what is in this link hereunder to understand the massive problems they have. It is a chose between life and death for the people of Taranto, and for the Italian economy.
The Italian town where the air is lethal - ABC News ...
We hope that they can find a solution, and clean the air enough for the people to live a normal life, that is all what we can say now.
Protesters of Taranto steelwork in Rome
People are protesting about Taranto steelwork
In a case like this, it is hard to say whether you want the steelwork open or close, because people die from toxic fumes, but at the same time, people need work, but anyhow, this is what is happening.
Hereunder are reports about the steel work, and I quote,
Steel Workers Stage Protest In Rome As ArcelorMittal Seeks To Pull Out Of Job-Saving Deal from a 2017 agreement to take over the Ilva steel company, Italian media reported.
Strange that iven in Russia this has been reported, and I quote
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th December, 2019) Steel workers belonging to trade unions staged demonstrations in Rome on Tuesday, in a protest against steel giant ArcelorMittal's planned withdrawal from a 2017 agreement to take over the Ilva steel company, Italian media reported.
"We'll fill Rome," head of the metalworkers union CGIL Maurizio Landini said, as quoted by the ANSA news agency.
Protesters were demonstrating against ArcelorMittal's proposed withdrawal from purchasing the Ilva steel group, initially signed in 2017. The Italian government has been long in negotiations with the Franco-Indian steel giant to salvage a deal, that includes saving production at Europe's largest steelworks, Taranto.
End of quotes;
This is what I found on the news, we hope that they find a solution, to this dilemma. That is all for this article. See you next time.
