What are Teachable Moments?

Updated on July 23, 2010

I don’t know about you but if there is one phrase I can’t stand these days it is Teachable Moment. Exactly who came up with that obnoxious phrase and what the hell does it mean. If there is a teachable moment is there also a Learnable moment; I think not.

This highly overrated phrase of the month, or perhaps even the year, first burst on the scene; at least to my knowledge, following President Obama’s rush to judgment following the arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates by the Cambridge Mass. Police. Without knowing any of the facts involved he (President Hussein Obama) rushes to the microphones and proclaims the Cambridge, Mass. Police acted "stupidly" this week when they arrested Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates!

As most of you aware the Cambridge Police disputed the extent of Gates' cooperation, saying he didn't initially provide identification when asked and berated the police. But Obama would not let it go and rebutted by opining, "I don't know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played in that but I think it's fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and, number three, what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there's a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately.

It later was determined the incident began when Cambridge Police Sgt. Joseph Crowley responded to a call about someone apparently trying to break into Gates' home. Crowley said Gates called him a "racist cop" after he arrived at the house and asked Gates for identification. Gates refused saying “No I Will Not”, then, according to Crowley, said he was being harassed because he is a "black man in America." As the confrontation escalated, Crowley was then joined by a Hispanic Cambridge police officer and a black sergeant. According to Hugh Cameron, president of the Massachusetts Coalition of Police, "the actions of the Cambridge Police Department, and in particular, Sgt. Joseph Crowley, were 100 percent correct. He was responding to a report of two men breaking into a home. The police cannot just drive by the house and say, “looks like everything is OK.” Gates was arrested and booked on a disorderly conduct charge but because Obama and Gates are personal friends the charges were promptly dropped.

So, two weeks later with mugs of beer and yet another photo op in the making our distinguished Premier; the leader of the Obama Regime sat with the policeman, the professor and the Court Jester, Joe Biden, and pontificated about this being a Teachable Moment! Thus this obnoxious Phrase was proclaimed by the One From On High and his minions in the MSM ran with it.

OK, why drudge this all up again you ask. Wellah; I have figured the answer to the question that has bugged me every time I hear that Obnoxious Phrase Uttered; What exactly is a Teachable Moment? Well here it is friends: A Teachable Moment occurs Following the Utterance of Some Nonsensical Statement by Premier Hussein Obama during which he is allowed in a media staged event to re-write History and justify his previously uttered word or words so as to appear Majestic; Philosophical; Brilliant; Glorious; Magnificent; Splendid; Superb; well you get the picture……

Great ideas; next time the Bamster jumps to conclusions and inserts his Kenyan Born Foot into his mouth it will hence forth and ever more be known as a Dead Ass Wrong Moment!

You know there is no such thing as a crazed Islamic psychiatrist; just a poor misunderstood Freedom Fighter far from home looking for his 72 virgins!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Jumping to conclusions is appropriate when a white police officer is involved; when a crazed Islamic psychiatrist shoots at will in a crowded room, it is not.

Great hub Patriot. Biden and Obama deserve each other. They are idiots. A teachable moment sounds stupid, how about dead ass wrong! I think that is more pertinent in this situation.

True, grammatically speaking it doesn't make sense but this Regime is about redefining what is true and what is not on a daily basis. Remember, their motto is “are you going to believe me or your lying eyes!”

The cop in that beer summit was indeed the only one with manners as demonstrated when he helped the professor down the stairs; he also demonstrated his manners as he sat quietly and politely listened to Obama Pontificate while Biden Slurped his beer!.

Grammatically, it doesn't make sense. I've wondered, though, just what they all set out to teach the cop in that beer summit. Seems to me he was the one teaching some manners to the President as he helped the professor down the stairs.

LOVE IT!!! As a teacher, this phrase has been bandied about in educational circles for a while now, but you know education is mostly controlled by the wacky libs anyway. Funny how Barry made an ill-informed statement without the facts, but he dithered for months about Afghanistan. I guess it just matters to him if the alleged perpetrators were white or not!

      Thanks Pop

You nailed it; he is arrogant, egotistical and self absorbed. I guess his teachable moments are our Learnable Moments.

Great hub Patriot. When you are as arrogant, egotistical and self-important as Obama his mistakes are "teachable moments". Our mistakes, the ignorant masses, are what you get when you are inferior. He really does believe he is King.
