What are Teachable Moments?
I don’t know about you but if there is one phrase I can’t stand these days it is Teachable Moment. Exactly who came up with that obnoxious phrase and what the hell does it mean. If there is a teachable moment is there also a Learnable moment; I think not.
This highly overrated phrase of the month, or perhaps even the year, first burst on the scene; at least to my knowledge, following President Obama’s rush to judgment following the arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates by the Cambridge Mass. Police. Without knowing any of the facts involved he (President Hussein Obama) rushes to the microphones and proclaims the Cambridge, Mass. Police acted "stupidly" this week when they arrested Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates!
As most of you aware the Cambridge Police disputed the extent of Gates' cooperation, saying he didn't initially provide identification when asked and berated the police. But Obama would not let it go and rebutted by opining, "I don't know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played in that but I think it's fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and, number three, what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there's a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately.
It later was determined the incident began when Cambridge Police Sgt. Joseph Crowley responded to a call about someone apparently trying to break into Gates' home. Crowley said Gates called him a "racist cop" after he arrived at the house and asked Gates for identification. Gates refused saying “No I Will Not”, then, according to Crowley, said he was being harassed because he is a "black man in America." As the confrontation escalated, Crowley was then joined by a Hispanic Cambridge police officer and a black sergeant. According to Hugh Cameron, president of the Massachusetts Coalition of Police, "the actions of the Cambridge Police Department, and in particular, Sgt. Joseph Crowley, were 100 percent correct. He was responding to a report of two men breaking into a home. The police cannot just drive by the house and say, “looks like everything is OK.” Gates was arrested and booked on a disorderly conduct charge but because Obama and Gates are personal friends the charges were promptly dropped.
So, two weeks later with mugs of beer and yet another photo op in the making our distinguished Premier; the leader of the Obama Regime sat with the policeman, the professor and the Court Jester, Joe Biden, and pontificated about this being a Teachable Moment! Thus this obnoxious Phrase was proclaimed by the One From On High and his minions in the MSM ran with it.
OK, why drudge this all up again you ask. Wellah; I have figured the answer to the question that has bugged me every time I hear that Obnoxious Phrase Uttered; What exactly is a Teachable Moment? Well here it is friends: A Teachable Moment occurs Following the Utterance of Some Nonsensical Statement by Premier Hussein Obama during which he is allowed in a media staged event to re-write History and justify his previously uttered word or words so as to appear Majestic; Philosophical; Brilliant; Glorious; Magnificent; Splendid; Superb; well you get the picture……
