Give me liberty...

...or give me cake. This is sad but true. Or is it worse? Is it more like, "Here, take my liberty. I just want security." What makes this even sadder is that that "sacrifice" of security has resulted in less security and the chains of bureaucratic tyranny bind us down while the great monster of the System feeds on the corpses of the fallen while enslaving those of us who live. As it stands so many are so used to the system that we fear to overturn it because we shouldn't question. We shouldn't be concerned. We should just continue arguing over which party should hold power while one party represents big government and the other big business.

Meanwhile, the System thrives on big business and big government manipulating a government that should be by the people and for the people so that instead it is by the government, for the corporation. And so the fools at Occupy Wall Street only see one half of the equation and call it capitalism when in reality it is corporatism (also known as mercantilism in the past) while the semi-fools at theTea Party jumps on the other half blaming big government while refusing to allow for fair taxation of the corporate giants because "We oppose raising taxes" when many of those big businesses have sluffed their responsibilities through special interest groups and backroom politics. And still we are played as even larger fools because only until the citizens of this nation stand up and say enough is enough there is there a way in heaven, hell, or God's green earth that we are going to free ourselves from the chains of this great lie so that we might slay that great monster, the System.

I am not even 30...

...and I am jaded by the senseless political system that manipulates us to the point where I want to give up. We've painted ourselves into a corner and the only way we are going to get out is if we say, "Screw it!" and just walking over the top of the paint and start over. I see little reward for taking risks and innovating. I see whining neo-hippies and failures protesting my success on one hand while large corporations and unions lie, cheat, steal, extort and bribe their way into taking my work from me.

To make things worse, if I just wanted to work for one of those corporations instead the result is my job being deported to some other nation while my debt is sold to the communist nations and my friends are sent to waste their lives in senseless wars that kill and traumatize them for people who don't give a flying shit about what they are doing there. How can a nation function at this level? How is it that we just put up with this bullshit instead of saying we are done with this system? Oh, Joseph Goebbels is laughing at us from his grave because we are being played by the propaganda that is being force fed to us by the news papers, tv stations and talk show hosts from both sides of the "political divide." In the mean time, those who would dare to speak even a semblance of truth are mocked, called wackos or placed in blacklists.

I do not necessarily agree with you one hundred percent, but I thought it important to read this--especially if PHDAST7 read it and commented. I am a former Republican. I am an Independent Conservative/Liberal. In other words, I am in the middle politically and on the right morally.

The Republicans are misguided and the Democrats are ... I don't have a good word, but it is really bad. My question to you: What is Freedom? What are we to take back that we have lost? What does it look like to start over? What is wrong with life now?

All corporations do not cheat the people. All government workers are not trying to rob the nation. What about those people. We are not ever going back to the way things were when we had approximately 3 million people. We have 313 million people now. We have to have a government to fit the size of our present needs. The population is a hundred times more than the beginning. We need a hundred times the government to represent and govern the population.

Thank you. And it was an exceedingly good rant. :)

I'll try to do that more often. It was a rant. I'll fix the formatting at least.

Good Hub. Good rant with really excellent contrasts and comparisons of the two opposing political positions. Nice juxtaposition of their different, yet misguided platforms because each side is only seeing half the picture clearly.

May I ask a favor of you? I have over 50 eyes and wear bifocals. Long sections of uninterrupted text are very hard for me to read. Could you break really long sections up into 4 or 5 paragraphs a piece? It would help some of us a great deal. And thank you

I'm sorry for the rant, but I agree Perspycacious. We need to be outraged. We need to have another Boston Tea Party. The sad truth is that a movement that started with a great idea has become yet another lackey of the Republican party while the Occupy Wall Street movement has been the lackey for the extreme Democrats from the beginning. And yet the reason both have gained support is because each strikes some truth in our hears and yet there is so much that is lacking in them. Its all bark and no bite. When are the American people going to stop worrying about security and take back the freedoms we have been robbed of?

Only when enough Americans get fired up as you are, will we stand a chance of getting back to the system which worked for the common good...something that has become very uncommon in the past few years of waste and waffle, hesitation and loss.
