Who Dat Patriot

Updated on March 13, 2010

Everyone in the sports world is suddenly aware of the Who Dat Nation; hello it is the rallying call of the New Orleans Saints! Well any way what’s that got to do with anything. Come on Patriot, we’ve come to rely on you to rage against the King and his court; so where’s the rage?

OK; OK; here we go. Just who is the Patriot and why does he despise Democrats to the extent he does. Time for a meet the Patriot session; surely you’ve wondered why someone, anyone, could not find one redeeming quality in that political force known as the Democrats.

I grew up in the Deep South; the son of post depression parents who clung to their guns and religion as a way to make it through the next day. Seriously, they were great parents! They instilled in me and my three brothers a sense of responsibility that we carried throughout life. Athletics were my life at a young age and in fact, they provided me an education I would not have been able to otherwise afford.

At a very young age I discovered I could throw a baseball very hard; how hard, I don’t know; the radar gun hadn’t been adapted to baseball at that time. Anyway my ability propelled me to the top of the athletic world as we knew it at that time and as such, I found myself trying out for the Houston Astros. Wow, a kid of 18 years pitching in the 8th wonder of the world as it was known at that time, the Astrodome! I told you I was old, they hadn’t invented Astroturf at that time so they were still trying to grow grass in the Astrodome and it looked like defecation; that’s not how I described it at the time. Anyway they offered me a small contract; I couldn’t throw a very good curve ball so it wasn’t much, but I turned it down because I had secured a college scholarship to a small Mississippi Liberal Arts College. Why not a large SEC school; well the Patriot had a nerve problem in those days. The SEC scouted him 4 different times and each time his nerves kicked in and he blew it; the last time he walked 6 straight batters after striking out the first two in the high school state championship game!

Moving on to post graduation; Patriot graduates from college and goes to work as a Management Trainee for one of the now four remaining big four railroads. He comes out of college as most kids do as a pseudo liberal! Can you imagine the Patriot a liberal pseudo or otherwise? Anyway, after a couple of years he is in charge of managing a small 300 mile territory wherein he is the chief transportation officer. He must deal with two well entrenched unions whose main objective is to protect their sorry employees; good employees do not need unions! The Patriot continually found himself frustrated because this big city work force refused to work and there was little or nothing he could do to force the issue. In fact one of his worst employees once told him when asked why he marked off sick again for the 5th time that month quote; I am an Afweet and I pulls my muscles; I’ll be an Afweet till the day I die! And there you have it friends in a nutshell; from that point on I realized the party that protected the rights of these sorry employees to refuse to work regardless what effect it had on the operation, an operation I was responsible for, was the Democratic Party.

In fact I soon realized the Democratic Party supported every sorry activity these employees that were making my life miserable were engaged in. If they faked injuries in order to sue the company the Democrats supported them by providing a stable of attorneys ready to handle their bogus law suit. They also directed them to Plaintiff friendly cities wherein juries could be found that hated corporate America. Any activity that worked against the goals of the company the unions and their pals in the Democratic Party stood solidly behind. For a young aspiring company man, these were formidable opponents standing in the way of meeting the company objectives that had been set out for his success!

As I progressed up the company ladder my visceral hatred for Democrats grew proportionately with each promotion. As the responsibility increased the union caused problems magnified. Finally my last position put me in charge of the railroad operation across a 6 state area; with a crew base of some 1500 employees. I’m not saying all 1500 were bad but the bad ones were solidly supported by the Democrats and their big labor pals. One such employee sued for 1.5 million dollars saying he was injured so badly he could not stand to sit in the seat and operate the locomotive. The case was tried in one of those plaintiff friendly venues and he was awarded the full $1.5 million. This in spite of the fact the company had hours of video showing this employee climbing ladders; ripping siding off houses; driving his pickup truck; pushing a wheel barrow across a construction site with a large generator in it. The jury was polled as to why they voted as they did in spite of the video. To the last man/woman the jury said; we don’t care what your video showed, the man said he couldn’t work!

That my friends is why I can’t stand Democrats!

Thanks I found it hard to believe what I could have said..

after all wasn't it you who said Great Minds think alike..

Now I recall my question and it was more a case of what kind of manager would leave a pitcher in after so many walks..

Thanks for the update.. I figured it was just a case of stretching the truth.. a wee bit..

      Sorry greatAmerican

Your comment got me to thinking and there wasn't any way I could have walked 14 straight; so I tried to replay it in my mind and the painful memory began to return; I struck out the first 2 batters but then walked in 3 runs so it would have been 6 straight instead of 14. I deleted your comment and changed my hub but I weasn't aware you would be notified.

You are among my most favorite fans so again I'm sorry for deleting the comment ; I was just trying to straighten the hub out!

      Thanks for visiting michiganman

The pendulum has definitely swung so far in the opposite direction it now swings in a circle; unions are destroying what businesses they still have their talons dug into and if Card Check passes they will destroy what's left of this economy.

excellent work. Anyone who has worked around unions knows that everything that you say is true. Thanks for providing your perspective.

I think this bunch underestimated our outrage and if they presist with this Marxist takeover of healthcare they will most assuredly experience our wrath come November.

So many of us have seen what's happening for years and years, but I think it took the internet for us to know we can join together and change things by changing who we elect and making demands on those we elect.

Like I told my friend Pop; if you're not a liberal in your 20 they say you have no heart; if you're still a liberal in your 30's you have no brain.

      Glan you'[re in my corner!

At least you realized it and made the change and for that I have to admire you. My problem is that some see the problem and still don't come to grips with it. Great story and proud to be in your corner.

There was no chance of people like you being on that jury; that’s why they chose that venue. Sooner or later those big rich companies are being forced to leave this country because of outrageous verdicts like this one.

Like the old saying goes if you’re not a liberal in your 20’s you have no heart but if you’re still a liberal in your 30’s you have no brain. Guess it shows you and I have brains!

Sometimes people are forced into unions, I understand that. The Democrats never met a Lawyer they didn’t like and as such that’s why they are doing more to drive companies out of this country than any single force. Companies cannot stand the constant battle with their employees wherein the employees are continually on the lookout for anything; piece of faulty equipment or unsafe condition that they can turn into a lawsuit.

It got so bad in my company that the first call the employees would make any time they allegedly injured themselves was to their union provided FELA Attorney. The attorney would tell them what to say and how to orchestrate their alleged injury.

Sorry but I took it as my personal challenge to investigate and expose these fraudulent prevaricators and then fire them. I became so successful at what I did and how I did it I taught an investigation class throughout the company and now do so now a contract basis for smaller railroads.

I despise fraud which is why I am so anti Democratic Party!

Great hub Patriot, Too bad I wasn't on that jury. Your hub explained why you feel so strongly very well. And I know your situation wasn't unique. People than the big rich company can afford the 11.5 mil and the little guy has always been screwed over anyway. Good hub.

Great hub, Patriot. I appreciate the opportunity to get to know you better. I too started out as a liberal and evolved into who I am today. I like the way you turned out.

Thanks for the insight as to why you feel as you do. I agree that unions have LONG outlived their usefulness. However, I am in the AFT, but I'm not proud of it. I have needed their help for a grievance--which I WON-- because the school system here is really operated using the "good old boy" system! Overall, I know unions are only hastening the decline of our society.

Living in WV as I do, I am completely surrounded by democrats and all things democrat. We have gone republican in the last several presidential elections, but the state gov is firmly in the grasp of the dems. As you said in your hub, the dems are not too business friendly, but they love their lawyer buddies and always welcome an unjust lawsuit. The business climate here SUCKS because businesses KNOW this state is full of lazy people wanting to sue to make an easy buck, and a bunch of ambulance chasers just salivating to help them. Our economy is in the shitter, and if BO has his way, WV will be bankrupted because he would LOVE to shutter ALL the coal mines. Anyway, sorry to go on so long, but you have inspired me.
