Racism Is Alive And well In America

When Barack Obama was elected president of the United States in 2008, I, along with many others watched in awe and with disbelief. We never in our wildest dreams expected to live long enough to see a man of color become president of the United States of America, especially one of African American ancestry. In fact, we would often say in jest that a White Woman or a Latino male would become president long before an African American male.

My first reaction was one of gratitude. I wept for joy. I wept for all those individuals, Black and White, Jews and gentiles, rich and the poor who sacrificed much, even their lives, so that African Americans could be treated as human beings with all the rights afforded their White counterparts.

I thanked God and wished that somehow, Dr. Martin Luther King and all of the Civil Rights leaders who have passed on would somehow know about President Obama’s victory and America’s triumph. I expressed deep gratitude for my Caucasian brothers and sisters who had taken a stand for what they believed was the right thing to do, Obama could not have been elected were it not for the White vote.

"Greater love has no man than one who would……."

I believed that Obama’s presidency signaled a new era in race relations in the United States. I was so proud that America had taken the lead and set an example for all the world to see and follow. I was proud that all eyes were on America for all the right reasons.

I believed that there would be "a coming together" of all people to advance the good of all mankind. I believed that we were on our way to truly becoming "one nation unto God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

At some point during my "high’, it suddenly dawned on me that Obama’s presidency could not have come at a worst time in the history of this country. Unemployment was on the rise… we were losing 800,000 jobs per month, America was funding two wars, one in Iraq, the other in Afghanistan. The housing market had collapsed, and the economy was in shambles. We were on the verge of another "Great depression".

"He has been dealt an impossible hand," I said to my daughter . "The Republicans will do all that they can to make certain that he fails. He is going to be blamed for ALL of America’s ills, pre and post his presidency. This historical event may just be the end rather than the beginning for him …. God certainly has a whacky sense of humor!"

Little did I know that even before Obama was elected and that on the very day of his inauguration, Republicans hatched a campaign of OBSTRUCTIONISM against him and the Democratic Party during a private dinner party. Among those present were, Senator and Vice Presidential Candidate, Paul Ryan, The Moral majority’s Newt Gingrich, Pete Sessions and Tom Coburn from the House and Senators John Ensign and Bob Cockert.

The plan was to sabotage all efforts made by Obama and the Democrats… all bills and legislation, all political appointments, all efforts to generate jobs for the American people, all efforts to revive the economy, all efforts to balance the budget.... The end result of all obstructions was to be the failure of Barack Obama to win a second term as president of the United States. The plan was to take back the house which they did in 2010, the Senate, and the White House.

Obama promised to be a bipartisan president, a president of all the people. He reached out to the Republicans on numerous occasions but was met with hostile and aggressive partisanship. The Republicans refused to cooperate with him and other Democrats even when their actions caused undue harm and hardship to the American People.

Republicans have betrayed the American people and the world by spreading the propaganda that Obama is to blame for ALL of America’s woes and for the partisan deadlock in Washington. He has been crucified by the Republicans and other "haters" and portrayed as incompetent, a whimp, and as one who is incapable of the leadership of America.

President Obama’s attempts at economic recovery for America and job creation were blocked by the Republicans. The Republicans blocked his American Jobs Bill, his lmmigration Reform Bill, his Dream Act, his Veteran’s Job Corp Bill, his Stimulus Bill, his Lily Ledbetter Bill, his Healthcare Bill, his Federal Judicial appointments, his Wall Street Reform Bill, etc, etc.

Why is it that President Obama is identified as an African American and not as a Caucasion or White man? Is it because he is married to a woman who is identified as an African American... that he lhas lived among and had friends that were predominantly Black....? Is Obama's skin Black?

Historically, here in America, individuals with African American and European White ancestry were considered African Americans period. The one-drop of blood rule was followed especially in the South as a back lash of slavery. The rule stated that any individual with even one drop of Negroid blood was to be considered and treated as a Black person.

Today, the majority of individuals of African American and European White ancestry choose or are assigned to the African American race. Think about it, they are no more of one race genetically than the other. Therefore President obama can be looked upon as a White man or an African American man or both.

What is behind this unprecedented obstructionism against the President of the United States?

President Obama is a Harvard Law School graduate, His background does not contain any moral or criminal deficiencies. He is a man who values his family. There has not even been a hint of any infidelity during his marriage to Michelle. President Obama is purportedly a Godly man. He is caring and compassionate. He loves the United States of America and it’s people.

President Obama is a man of high character. Though he is fully aware of the Republican's RACIST driven agenda he refuses to play the Race card. President Obama has borne the burden of being HATED by the Republican Party and it’s followers. He has tolerated being portrayed as inept, uapproachable, and one not capable of leading this great nation.

The Republicans have done a great job of convincing many Americans that President Obama is to blame for ALL that's WRONG with America, when in actuality, the Republicans are to blame.

In their quest to do harm to and discredit President Obama, they have hurt the American people and the image of the USA world wide. ALL eyes are upon America now for all of the wrong reasons.

Yes! Individuals living in America are still being judged by some people in high and low places because of the color of their skin. There are many Republicans, Indepeadents, as well as Democrat who will fervently deny that they hate or do not support president Obama because he is a man of color. They are in serious denial and look upon themselves as being christians who 'love' everybody, including African Americans. " Some of my best friends are black......." Jeff Hickman in his article, "What Has To Happen For Black And White To Unite?" has this to say about RACIST Americans.

"Most Americans will tell you, that they are not racist individuals. Many of these people though, are either fooling themselves, or just being politically correct. When you delve deeper into the subconscious of the human psyche, you discover that many of us have reasons that we believe justifies racism. These so called reasons or excuses include the reverse discrimination of Affirmative Action, ignorance of other races, and the belief in the need for retribution for past injustices. Maybe we should all take some time to look at these issues and into our own hearts, to see if together we can learn to be better as a species." Jeff Hickman http://voices.yahoo.com/racism-america-has-happen-white-and-311025.html

HATRED and RACISM continue to be core problems in America. Though we have made great strides in combating RACISM, the treatment of President Obama is proof positive that RACISM is still alive and wellin these United States of America.

Racism in America Created by Spaghettiluva108

There's more to racism

then just black and white

Racism is discrimination to ANY race

a club that only accepts white

that's racism

a program that only accepts blacks

that's racism

A store that will only serve latinos

that's racism

A comment towards asian people

that's racsim

We have to reshape our minds

If it's not white- then it's not racism

that is not correct

If you are ANY color.

You can be racist

don't just accept one color

don't shape your mind to one kind

Accept all as they come

You can be black, white, asian, latino, straight, gay, or bi.

But we are all Gods children.

So accept us as we are.

WAKE UP REPUBLICAN PARTY - PRESIDENT OBAMA WILL BE YOUR PRESIDENT FOR A SECOND TERM!!! Racism will not stop him!

I was so happy when I heard the great news as He was elected as president. As what you state, it is really great example to everybody to choose nobody but someone with the effort, competent and bravery. And I think, I saw it to him, though I am from the Philippines, yet, I read some about his efforts. Shame, there are people who oppose and instead of working together for betterment, they do things just to satisfy what they thing can benefit their own.

      Jerry Wall,

Thanks for your comment. From where I sit President Obama is hated because he is a man of color. I agree that partisanship by both parties has always been problematic, but never in the history of this country has there been an all out effort to make certain the president fails in all areas. When the president fails, America fails. you andI fail. No other president has been subjected to such underhanded and blatantly racist behaviors when in or out of office. It is clear that the Republican party and many of the American people do not respect President Obama as a man or president.

Obama is the first president who was made to show his birth certificate as proof of his US citizenship.

Obama is the first president whose educational achievements have been questioned by the American people.

Obama is the first president to have ever been portrayed on a TV Show as a black devil. We all know that the devil is portrayed as RED.

Obama received thousands upon thousands of hate remarks and tweets when he was reelected.

As a student of history, I do not remember reading or learning about the losing political party holding meetings and making an intention to see that the president failed and did not get elected a second term. I'm sure you are aware of the obstructionist tactics employed by the Republicans to harm President Obama that in turn hurt the American people.

The hatred towards President Obama is unprecedented.

Are you aware that a group of academics who run a blog called Floating Sheep Blog called the tweets "some of the nastiest tweets you can possibly imagine" and projected them onto a map. The result was that 9 of the 10 worst states went to Romney in the 2012 election. These states were N. Dakota, W VA, Missouri, GA, LA... your state, Tenn, GA and Minnesota. Only MN voted Obama in.

This is what one journalist said about the nasty tweets:

"In case you were hopeful that Obama winning a second term was some kind of indication that racism doesn't really exist anymore, check out Twitter. The amount of hate speech, referring to the president as a "nigger," a "monkey," calling for violence and for the south to "rise again" was depressing—and eye-opening. Here is incontrovertible proof (as if we needed it) that racism isn't just some imaginary talking point invented by liberals, but an actual problem. What's sadder is that many of these Tweeters seem to be in high school, who don't have the flimsy excuse of being raised in "another time. If you believe the children are our future, then our future is fucked." Traci Egan Morrissey - Time Newsfeed

I believe this statement sums up the Republican Party and it's followers in a nutshell:

"Republicans are terrified that the world might not always be tilted toward being Caucasian (and possibly male,) and so they have to scream and shout and be as ugly as they know how, in a last-ditch effort to prove they're not the new minority."

The world always needs a balance. To see a black president marked a new age in history. Now change takes time.Old views have to be replaced by new thoughts.Better ways and concepts to a bright new future. The evil and wrong people of America will not win.You can be fooled by someone who you think were a good person but adventually their true colors will be seen.I don't mean black or white or any color of any human being. We are all people of God.The evil of any man that has bad intentions and plans to harm others in the end justice will be served.God bless America in this tough time.We shall pull through a stronger nation and because of the struggles we now face.We have to have confidence in doing the right things and focus are attention on such ways. Not pointing the blame on the Democrats or the Republicans because that just starts the hatred all over again.Keep thinking of new ways to make America better and ways to create jobs. Why can't we all give suggestions on what will work and have an open forum to create jobs and ideas that will lead America down the right path.Haven't we learned through history through all struggles we survive we become smarter and wiser. This time is no different. The Bible is filled with unhapppy stories of every possible wrong doing man can do.It is our choice to live and help any president lead and succeed.Thanx so much for sharing.

I accept any one no matter what they look like, but when they set up regulations that restrict freedom, and get away with and raise taxes on people who hire, that makes it harder to afford paying them to expanded and HIRE MORE PEOPLE. You face it, Obama is ruining this country. He is doing more harm then good he is a liar. He promise we won't raise taxes he lied because he did. He knows what to say but when it gets down to it he does noting and he always do the executive order the get what ever he wants to get though when it make things worse yet he blame the Republicans for the problems he cause. You people who Live off other people hard work for your stupid entitlements are nothing but spoil brats who make their parents go into dept just so you can have your toy.

I am assuming that you are an owner of a multi million dollar corporation, not just a middle class worker like I was before I retired. My mother retired as a teacher in the public schools. My father retired as a Medical Doctor. I worked for over 35 years as a Mental Health Therapist. My dead husband retired from the Coast Guard after 30 years. My only daughter is a Manager for a large international company, such as yours I imagine, and holds an MBA. I earned an Ed.D. So you see I nor my family members are dead beats.

Concerning President Barack Obama's record, I suggest that you do your research and stop regurgitating what you are told or hear from the misinformed, close minded, and bigoted individuals who are all about rhetoric, hate, and ingrained delusional beliefs. I assume that you, like me, is White, but that does not give us the right to hate our fellow man. We all are ONE. If you were simply a Middle Class person, you would resent having to carry the load for all of America. I don't mind helping the poor and disenfranchised but I do resent that wealthy people like you don't pay your fair share to keep America moving forward. You need to research how America has fared using the system to not tax the wealthy so that you can hire other Americans. As you may have heard, the American economy suffered greatly under this warped logic. By the way how many people did your corporation hire based on your tax breaks? I wager that all monies gains were spent on the perpetuation of your lavish life style. So who is the deadbeat?

    • profile image

      Larry Wall 4 years ago

Ladydeonne, you gave an excellent response. I will say that our tax system needs a major overhaul. The tax brackets need to be adjusted. The allowance for each dependent needs to be increase. The medical deduction should be adjusted so you start at three percent of your salary instead of five percent. But the problem goes beyond the federal level. States fight each other by offering more and more tax breaks and concessions all in the name of economic development. In my state and city, the state is helping IBM build a building on a parcel of land where the newspaper was located before it built a new building without tax assistance. We as people sometimes expect too much of government. We want services, but we do not want to pay for them. We object to paying taxes for schools, when we have no children in the school system, forgetting that a good school system attracts people to an area which attracts businesses and create opportunities.

People like to blame the President that is in office, especially if you did not vote for him (or her). The blame, if there is blame rests with the Congress and the people who keep re-electing the same people who do nothing but slow down the system.

There is so much hatred and strife in America among the Whites and people of color. What has and is being done to President Obama is unprecedented. America is at risk of losing it's standing in the world as a super power because of racism. Thanks for your comments. Think I'll check out your hubs for today's history lesson.

I worked so hard to get President Obama elected both times. When i see him and his beautiful family my heart swells with renewed pride. Our country is changing, no longer will we tolerate greedy politicians. I think we will see a change in congress, including the greedy democrats who vote his bills down. His policys of unlimited handouts, freeby after freebey, bowing to his muslim leaders, and giving away our country to those who have earned and deserve...Nothing! No, people like you have killed a nation and doomed an entire world. What the he.. do you think will happen when the freebies stop? You think Idiots and morons like you will be spared? No...everyone will be raped an murdered in the streets, civil war and terror will reign, while he laughs his head off in some billionares resort. You have elected the most dishonest, evil and perverse idiot this country has ever seen. When our economy collapses...and it will! nothing but civil war, genocide and doom will follow. Thank you so much for all you have done! Signed: America

Let's agree to meet here one week following the swearing in of the next president and re-read your rant and then determine if any of it proved to be correct.

I live in the south. I have seen prejudice, but what you presented sets a new standard, not a good standard but a standard. "I wish you would explain the term "decadant abuse of the treasury," and then tell me that no other president has offered "handouts" in the form of foreign aid. We had a period in our own history, when the government was flush with money and they established the Federal Revenue Sharing Program, giving money to states, counties and cities. A whole lot of tennis courts, now not used, were built along with some other useless projects and many governmental bodies used that money, which only lasted a few years to try to fund ongoing operations.

Read up on a little history. Read about Hoover and the Hot Oil Scandle, check out Andrew Jackson and a bunch of other presidents. Obama is not perfect, but he is hot the demon you are trying to create.

      alwaysexploring,

Thank you so much for reading my hub and for your comments. It's great that you are involved in the political process and that you take pride in our country. I am not quite as optimistic as you are. The Republicans continue to hold this nation hostage as evidenced by our sequester status. We are not able to move forward until the Democrats and Republicans come together to heal our nation. We need to all be of one mind, focus our thoughts on peace, unity, prosperity, and success for our president. We can, with our thoughts, create the kind of nation we want to be. Thanks for sharing.

      tlmntimg,

Happy to meet you. Though we may not agree, I respect your right to express your opinions. What I do take issue with is your propensity to call your fellow hubber derogatory names. I am proud to be part of such an esteemed group of individuals who love to write and to share their gifts with the world. As I have lived on the planet earth for over half a century, I have learned that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for one with a closed mind and an unwillingness to acknowledge that we as a people are ONE. What happens to our brothers and sisters happens to and affects us. There are no races, no white or colored people, no rich or poor...just people who are manifestations of God on this planet. Thanks for reading my hub and for your comments. I plan to give your hubs a read as soon as time permits. Thanks for sharing!

      Larry,

Thanks so much for your comments. Being from the South I know that you know what racism looks like. I know what it's like to be different because of my ADHD. I'm glad that you realize as I do that individuals who are not well informed are often swept up in what they hear from those around them and like puppets, follow the crowd. What I have learned from my activism here in Central VA is that many of my neighbors especially those in my age group do not see themselves as ones in need of tax breaks...they don't know that Obama is fighting for them too as it is the middle class that bears the burden of running America while the wealthy do not pay their fair share. My neighbors are not wealthy though many of them on certain streets are upper middle class. Having been homeless and after losing everything, I now see things from a new prospective. As you say Obama and no politician is perfect. I am not a Democrat or Republican. I am a citizen of the USA who votes for and supports the individual who best represents me and the American people.

Hope you're finished with your y surgery. I was told on last year that I had the beginnings of cataracts. I don't wear glasses yet so I'm blessed in that respect.

      God bless!

What are you talking about? He had to show birth certificate?

What about Clinton? They demanded him to show his privet parts!

Democrats are at least as bad as republicans in their inhumanity and greed - only they doing it "in name of the people"!

I helped Clinton to survive his presidency - his government apparatus of violence responded by trying to kill me and my mother and her memory was destroyed.

I refused to be plagiarized by Obama - they did the same "in the name of the people" and CIA bestially murdered my mother 7/7/2012, conspiring with Russians and using Obama's government apparatus of violence.

Obama get it too easy, just because this rich "neo-tech" versus of Masson pretend to be of African extraction - republicans afraid to criticize him, even if he would lead USA into colonial state for Global imperial resurrect, or to total ruin - just because he is "not white".

The Tea Party is a marker of all that is wrong with America; all that undermines our founding principles and founding creed. It is populated by people who wrap themselves in a Constitution they neither understand nor support; who wrap themselves in a Bill of Rights that they perceive as a problem to be solved; wrap themselves in a Declaration of Independence whose most basic sentiments offend them.

Only in the Tea Party could one find anti-government protesters carrying signs saying: "Keep the government out of my social security" or "Keep the government out of my Medicare"...;)

The real problem is that the Congressmen from both parties do not communicate with each other and form a consensus of opinion. Congress s in session about three days of the week. The rest of the time they are out raising campaign funds for their next campaign and for the party. Thus the congressmen, in most cases fall in line behind the leader of the party. There are a few issues such as offshore oil drilling that are decided by geographic prejudice and not partisan alliance.

Why does GOP HATE Pres Obama? Now there's a loaded question with the verb, HATE being so powerful: I'm a GOP member and I don't know of any member who HATES the man. They dislike BO'spolicies (I only use his intitials, because tyoing isn't my strong suit!)! I only speak for me.

I see a GOP which doesn't like his policies. If this is construed as hatred, it is an immature way of thinking (that a man IS his politics and policies).

I see a GOP which doesn't feel BO is acting in the best interests of this country, which may or may not be his country. But, it is their country and they'll fight to the death in defense of it. From where I sit, this is not hatred of BO.

As far racism goes, Al Sharpton is more racist than the Republican or Democratic parties could ever THINK of being; so that only begs the question; Why does the BO embrace Al Sharpton (je ne sais quois)?

There is a small, wee wee percentage out there of GOP members who are racist I'm sure (skin heads and KuKlux Klan), but there is the same percentage of racists on the other side of the aisle.

The reason that I dislike BO as president is because I don't like his policies and I dislike the way in which he governs. Even though others have done this, executive fiat is not the way to govern 24/7. (When you think about it, when was the last time a bill went through channels as detailed in the Constitution) and he signed it into law? The ACA was a shining example. What happened to the 72 hours to read it on-line?

      Interesting facts about Obama:

1 - He is the only U.S. President since the ratification of our Constitution whose father was never an American.

2 - He had a paternal great-grandmother who was 100% Arab-Bedouin which is Caucasoid and makes him less than half-black.

      3 - His mother was a soft-porn magazine model.

4 - In Luke 10:18 Jesus said "I saw Satan fall like lightning from on high". BARAK means 'lightning' & BAMAH means 'on high' so when you don't believe me when I tell you Obama is the Antichrist you should at least pray about it.

The first several presidents of the United States had fathers who were not born in the United States.

I have a biracial grandson--do you have a problem with that.

I have seen no proof of No. 3.

I use to be a Baptist and heard my share of fire and brimstone sermons and never heard that one. I do not believe President Obama is the AntiChrist.

I have no proof for Number 5, and do not care what his father did. He was not running for office.

Just say you do not like the President and leave it at that. The rest is useless.

I agree with you Larry. I am not, and never have been, an Obama fan. But I don't like him for the things he has done, not for what his parents did or even where he came from. I am not going to live my life in fear of the possibility of an anti-Christ. I do worry a little about what he might do his last year in office because he then really has nothing to lose. The thing is, there are a lot of things about politics that I don't like, but I am not going to let that control the rest of my life. There are enough younger people that can and will handle those problems. And whatever comes of this country is because of what we the people did in the past, not because of one man. But when you want to put someone down, deal with that person directly and blame that person directly for his/her actions, not the relatives, who usually are not here to defend themselves anyway. My opinion, Greg.

Thank you for your honest and meaningful comments on this subject. I did not vote for President Obama in his first term. I voted for him in his second term. Mitt Romney did nothing to impress me. I have benefited greatly from the Affordable Care Act. Others say it is costing too much and make other claims. As I said before, the effectiveness of President Obama cannot be judged now or four years henceforth. It will take decades to understand the full impact of his presidency. When he was in office, I heard repeatedly that Ronald Reagan could do no wrong. I did not agree. His popularity has dropped significantly since he left the White House. I think it will be years before we know the full impact of President Obama. I think overall it will be good, but if it turns out, he did not accomplish enough. I will admit my error. To approach history as we are living it any other way is just the wrong way to go. Again, thank you for your comments. While we may disagree, I can always respect a person who voices his views based on facts and his opinion over those who quote incorrect facts and form opinions before there is anything to judge..

Larry, "...Others say it [ACA] is costing too much.."you may have benefited greatly from the ACA and that is good. I haven't been so lucky and my husband hasn't. Unfortunately my medical bills continued to drive us to insolvency, then bankruptcy.

There is no such thing as a disabled person with a preexisting condition (find me one who DOESN'T have a pre-existing condition). Thank goodness we have family which has been wonderful to us. Unless you're a really healthy senior, a supplement plan is pretty much needed and you can pick them up for $50-$100.

Unfortunately, if you have a pre-existing condition, you can get a supplement which will cover you; but that will come at a price. Mine just went up 45%. THAT IS FOR SOMEONE ON A FIXED INCOME. No, we were sold a bill of goods by that man.

No one who promoted the ACA (and that includes the chameleon-in chief who wanted it for his legacy hat), anyone in the legislature who voted for it or promoted it in any way has anything but my disdain and the disdain of every senior who has seen benefits decreased or premiums increase (not $0.04, but $400) .

GOP members don't hate him. But he does give examples like this daily to strongly disagree with what he considers will do wonders for the good of his countrymen.

You talk of Popularity, impression, benefit greatly, effectiveness understanding impact, accomplishments. I GIVE YOU FACTS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Larry, I was just reading your post of this morning about the evidence of BO family upbringing. Thin ice, man:

"I have a biracial grandson--do you have a problem with that.." I don't, most don't. However, in a national election, it is facts like that that are vetted. Do you remember Bristol Palin's out of wedlock child? Not saying.

About the anti-Christ. You haven't heard and I don't care. However, in the book, which "Faith of my Fathers" (is that the name?) BO openly admitted to cocaine use (or was it heroin?). Not disqualifiers in my mind. Harmful and habit forming, yes. At greater issue is the fact that had someone else found out about them, their candidacy would have been smeared (Joe Soptic style), but no, Mitt Romney was too much the gentlman to raise them as ANY kind of issue.

"I have seen no proof of No. 3." None of us has known his mother, but it is easily found out that his mother wasn't a girl scout, though BO doesn't advertise that. Who would? It shouldn't be held against a person, but again, it is.

You don't care what his father did. Which one? The card carrying communist, Maxwell Davis, who was likely his mother's lover? Or the biological father of whom he's not too proud? We vet the heck out of others, but Maxwell Davis and his mother died not that long ago.

Don't you find it in the least bit odd, just the very least bit odd, why we've not heard from a college roommate or law school study-group mate member about the # of gals he always dated in undergrad, or his study habits while at Harvard? Why are his academic records sealed? Don't you ever wonder if a cafeteria lady when he was a gradeschooler, wondered if that nice kid who was so intelligent then, would ever; WHY GUESS HE MADE IT, HE'S POTUS!! Those are things that are vetted in or out and makeup the profile we have of a candidate. Instead his handlers MADE UP the profile to suit the electorate from where I sit.

Are you examining a President or looking at a Hollywood star? President Obama is not ever going to be considered our best president. He does not deserve to be considered the worse. I made that point in other hubs and will not bore you.

The ACA has been a lifesaver--literally--for me. When I lost my job of 23 years and the group insurance that came with it, I had one-year of Cobra. I could not convert it to an individual policy because that company did not write individual policies in the state. I approached every major insurance company in my state, Blue Cross, Aetna, Humanna and others. I know the CEO of Blue Cross in my city. I could not get insurance because of my age and health history. I found some cheap insurance that paid for a couple of doctor's visit and paid about $1,500 of a $32,000 hospital bill--the hospital forgave the remainder. I had to purchase my medications (10 for me and five for my wife) from Canada in order to get an affordable price. I pay $700 a month for my insurance and there is a subsidy on top of that. I went the first six months of the year without any issues, since then, I had to be admitted to the hospital for a reoccurring gastric problem (I will spare you the details--two days, $11,000) and I had to have a surgical procedure on my vocal folds (same as vocal cords). I had a check up on that condition earlier in the year and the test was $1,600. I have now met all my deductibles and co-pays. I am covered for the remainder of the year. In July of next year, I will be on Medicare, which includes a federal subsidy, but my cost will be much less. My wife will make the switch this year. I do not think people dislike the ACA. They dislike Obama, and they dislike being told they have to have health insurance. If everyone pays, the revenue would be enough to keep the premiums at an acceptable level. At my last job, I had a gold-plated group plan. I was not allowed to take it. The monthly cost for that plan was more than the ACA plan. At some point, my former employer may drop that as a benefit, and tell the remaining employees that they are on their own. That is basically what I was told when I was dismissed after 23 years without any stated reason. I could have sued, but the severance package was too good to take the chance. I did not vote for President Obama for his first term. I had no hesitation voting for his second term. Mitt Romney kept saying, "I have a plan, and I know how to make it work." He never told us the plan. Talk about a pig in a Polk, that was a classic case.

Bill Clinton admitted to smoking marijuna. I know he never inhaled. I never have smoked it and I am 64. Ronald Reagan was called the great communicator--he was not. He did not bring down the Berlin Wall, Pope John Paul II, rallied central Europe to step forward. Russia caved under its own bureaucracy. Many people pick and choose the things they want to know. I want to know a lot of things, but then I prioritize the importance of those things and recognize that some parts of a person's history can be attributed to youthful foolishness, party loyalty and other outside forces.

I support the Keystone Pipeline. The number of miles of pipeline currently underground would shock you. I oppose building a wall to keep Mexican immigrants out of the country--sounds like Berlin.

I wish Iraq did not have a nuclear weapon. However, that country is a sovereign nation, and we do not have the right to tell them want to do. We can use our monitoring tools to watch construction and have a satellite in orbit to know if it is being aimed and can be ready to shoot it down in a heartbeat. Iraq knows the same thing. We have a lot of saber-rattling going on, but I do not think the threat of a nuclear bomb is as serious as the possibility of another 9-11.

Finally, you stated, "Those are things that are vetted in or out and make up the profile we have of a candidate. Instead, his handlers MADE UP the profile to suit the electorate from where I sit."

John Kennedy was a great President. You think his sexual exploits would allow him to be elected today--would you even consider him. Handlers have been making up profiles for decades. There is nothing new. You accept what is reasonable, ignore the gossip and study the statements of the candidates and not the talking heads. Then you may get a close to accurate picture of the candidates. You are entitled to your views and I respect and will defend your rights to express those views, even if I think they are incorrect. I expect the same courtesy.

Gentlemen, and I do mean gentle. If the name Jeb Bush meant "antichrist" I'm sure that would be off-limits in the upcoming debates. If Mitt Romney's mother was a porn-star that would have had no bearing on his campaign. If birther Donald Trump was once called "Bathhouse Donnie" that wouldn't have even been a blimp on his presidential campaign. Funny how McCain's Panama birth in a non-U.S. facility required a congressional-hearing to somehow construe him a "natural-born" citizen which really he is not. Jesse Jackson's grandmother posing topless for National Geographic didn't derail his campaign either. But some people can get away with murder.

I have heard of many people who had bad experiences. The roll out the first year was an absolute nightmare. I was using the federal Marketplace exchange. My state did not see fit to follow the law and establish its own exchange. This past December, everything went smoothly with the enrollment. However, I learned today, the insurance company I am using will cease operations in Louisiana at the end of the year, and I will have to pick another carrier. I will go on Medicare in July of 2016, so I only need coverage for half a year. I will have some problems. I do not know which exchange you used. If you used a state exchange, your problems were probably greater. If you not prepared to take a very affirmative position with the federal exchange and ask to talk to a supervisor, the process can be trying I am paying $730 for the Gold policy. The COBRA benefit my last company gave me for a year was $1,200 a month. I go for the higher levels of coverage, so I pay more. I get a subsidy. Last year, they gave me too much, and I had to pay it back--that was not right. I gave the best estimate of my income that I could since part of my income is from my old 401k and is tied to the stock market, and some free-lance writing jobs are unpredictable. I hope you have a better experience with the ACA in the future.

    • teamrn profile image

When I picked my Medicare supplement plan 3 years ago, I did not use an exchange. The ACA did not affect the ' Medicare side.' None of it's provisions (pre-existing condition coverages, you can keep your doctor, etc) did not affect the 'Medicare side.'

I didn't use a state exchange. However, I just received a letter from my secondary company of the premium increase, so pardon me if I don't share your enthusiasm. I am prepared "to talk to a supervisor;" but this is a dictate from one of the largest insurance companies in the world.

The supervisor is just a cog in the wheel and cannot change the dictates and policies just because I'm cute or try other creative things. I don't know if/when the ACA will affect the Medicare side of payment. In January of 2016, I will begin coverage with another insurance company and then in just over a year, I'm eligible for traditional medicare and my premiums for the supplement will drop even more.

My experience with ACA besides me, is my husband, who is one of the unemployed who 'doesn't matter' because his unemployment bennies have run out is ineligible for subsidies because I make too much and his freelancing, though spotty at best, garners (when annualized-for what reason?) is $49 over the threshold, so subsidies don't exist for him.

That is a decision that seemed worthy of an appeal, because his income is skethchy, but the powers that be/ACA beancounters are governed by a different set of rules that, say that, for a BASIC policy, he makes to much money to be subsidized. So, household of 2 with an income of $22, 000 is not eligible for subsidy because $22,000 is too much money. This has been the way it has been for years, I'm told. Well, it isn't right.

So, I can keep my (insurance-2nday), but it'll cost a small fortune. No, you won't find this lady jumping for joy about President Obama; but he had help. And that is the sad testimony about this whole affair.

      Teamrn:

I never said the system was perfect. I just turned 64. On July 1, 2016, I will be on Medicare. My wife will be on it Dec. 1 of this year. Thus I have to purchase a policy that will cover me for the first six months of 2016. I am paying $730 right now. The company I was using is ceasing business in LA at the end of this year. I will have to purchase six months of coverage from a higher price company. To get any benefits, I will have to meet the deductibles that are designed to cover a year. I was in the hospital for two days earlier this year and had out-patient surgery on my throat. You never know when an illness will pop up. The ACA is not perfect. However, while the cost may be high for me next year, I cannot be turned down, as I was many times before the ACA. Regarding your situation, it might be to your advantage to purchase the next level policy, where you might qualify for a subsidy, which could result in the same dollar amount you have to pay, but with better coverage. I do not know if you are using the federal or state exchange. I do not think you are being treated correctly, and I would make a lot of noise. I did. If I did not get a sensible answer, I got a supervisor and if that did not work I got the next supervisor. I finally got my problem solve (this was with the 2014 rollout, which was horrible. Bureaucrats sometimes overlook details. Based on your income, I think you can do better. It will take effort, but I would not want to argue with you, so I think you might be able to get a better plan. I wish you luck and offer my prayers that conditions for you, and your husband improve. I say that with true sincerity.

When you start with a word like HATE, you are already making your hub into an opinion blog, as opposed to informational.

When Barack Obama can be elected to two terms as president, we can dispense with the RACISM.

Both of the words, HATE, and RACISM just perpetuate both Hate, and Racism without any foundation. It is like asking the question, "What color is George Washington's white charge".

Your opinion and conclusion is biasing any possible information in your hub.

Consider also that Barack Obama is half White, and just because the white doesn't show, it is still a fact. What if he was still half black and half white, but the white was predominant, how we look at him.

What do we call someone that is half Italian, and half Spanish? If they are American Citizens, then we should call them American Citizens. The problem here is that Barack Obama has been called an African American, but again that is only half true.

My point is that as long as we put something in front of the word American, we are engaging in Racism. It shouldn't matter about race, and color, but if you put those attributes above being American, then that itself is not American.

It is what president Barack Obama has done or not done that we are judging as Citizens. His color, or ethnicity is not the issue, but some people are making it that issue, like in this hub.

Because many of us don't like ACA, that doesn't mean we are racists, or even hate Obama. We just don't like what he is doing as president. He spent his first two years in office, with a democrat controlled congress to work on His ACA, when he should have been helping the tens of millions of people that were losing their homes, and their jobs. While he ignored the Federal Money thrown at the same financial institutions that caused the 2008 economic meltdown.

Instead of trying to solve the Congressional Gridlock, he thought he could take advantage of the gridlock, and start to legislate. That is still the job of Congress, as messed up as they are today.

If you want to get rid of HATE and RACISM then start by not fueling them with the misuse of those two words.

Would you want your child's teacher to call them Stupid, or Idiots, or would you rather have them define the problem and come up with a solution?

HATE, a very, if not too strong word which alienates many from the get=go.

The Republican party does not HATE President Obama. They disagree with his way of solving problems (which in many cases is not to address them at all), but to say the Republican party HATES their President is over the top. He is their president.

Granted, early in Barack Obama's tenure, there were some Republicans who wanted to see him a one-term POTUS, but even THAT'S not akin to saying they HATE him. Where do Dems get this thinking? Kool-aid? He gave this Republican lots of reasons for thinking he'd be different and he mislead on all counts.

There are many things that Barack Obama did-or didn't do, to get us to the place where we are. Now, with credit rating decreased, $18+Billion in debt, Syria having crossed the red-line and our having done NOTHING (if that isn't feckless, I don't know what is) as our allies and evil powers are often turning to the US for guidance. We're giving none. We're not leading.

I can see not wanting to put boots on the ground, but we can support our Allies without providing fighting forces. This fight is theirs to wind or lose and they know it. They only ask for help from us.

If we don't defeat ISIS in Europe, they'll be coming here. I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't want that. Can you imagine not knowing if your wife goes to the grocery store for a loaf of bread, that she'll come home in one piece? That's not fear-mongering, that's reality, if these goons are aided by Vladimir Putin to increase their sphere of influence. He's all about power and money.

The longer we go on with these half-assed, weak foreign policy and domestic policy, they roar of what used to be the strongest LAND OF THE FREE, HOME OF THE BRAVE, the USA will be stifled and will eventually suffer a gradual decline.

I was a Republican until Bush's second term. I left because I got fed up with Republican men acting as if they have all the answers and are masters of the universe when they are nothing but spoiled, overindulged little boys. Sorry, not on MY tax dollars.

So the GOP doesn't hate Obama? Do explain why in March 2009, Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told the world, "We will GET RID of Obama." Really? 3 months into a new presidency?

Is that because a new Democratic president upset the GOP plan to use our tax dollars to flush to Republican States and their corporate cronies?

The Tea Party was established by Charles and David Koch, two ultra right wing Libertarians. Go to a Libertarian open meeting as I did and you'll think you are in some bizarre fraternity house initiation ceremony.

As for conservatism, they are anything but conservative. To these Tea Party members, 65% of every US budget has to support GOP states or else. The FORCE is with us? Not on my tax dollars.

The Republicans hate themselves as all little vindictive, spiteful little boys do. Look what they are doing to their own party and all because a handful of highly paid Koch trolls want supremacy over the entire country. Not on MY tax dollars.

Men who go around hating everything are lunatics. This is why mental institutions are full of extremists whose social behavior goes off the deep end. Take a good look at the egotistical GOP men today. They say and do anything, always believing no one will punish these bad little boys for pulling tantrums. Think again.

The Republicans and I was a Republican for 33 years prior to leaving the party in 2004, is full of bossy, overbearing wannabee CEOs who love to "rule with an iron hand." One problem with that...no one in the US will EVER allow them to have that much control.

They hate Obama because he is everything they can NEVER be: intelligent, common sense, decent and honest. All the crooks who lined their pockets in the US under Bush were thrilled to be living large on other people's tax dollars.

EVERY Republican state gets more than their fair share for the dollar they pay in federal taxes. Alaska's $1 gets them ROI of $1.87, Texas $1 gets them $1.78. Every GOP state gets anywhere from $1.35 to $1.87 for their $1. Meanwhile, these welfare states are living off taxes the Dem states pay and the Dems states get 55 cents on average ROI for our $1.

It's time to put a stop to GOP bullying. These are just crooks who thrive on corruption and think they are entitled to live off tax dollars the rest of us pay.

If you can't run a business on your own, without MY tax dollars, get out of business. If your state can't make it without dipping deeply into the federal kitty, maybe your states need to stop living like it's pre-Civil War Plantation days.

It was President Obama who came into office in 2008 with zero in the Treasury. It was President Clinton who left office with a surplus.

Suddenly, the crooks of the Republican states discover and blame Obama for their 8 years of tax cuts that enriched ONLY the rich? Suddenly it's Obama's fault that Bush was too chummy with Saudi Arabia and bin Laden wasn't captured?

Men and women who bash this president do it for a reason: they are LOSERS of the certifiable type who got too used to living off the hard earned dollars the rest of us work for. Past history calls that serfdom mentality. Time to shut your hateful mouths, move your butts and get a life ...one that doesn't include price gouging, lining your pockets with other people's money and doesn't seek ultra power over others.

Brad, Sorry, I cannot possibly agree. Once the Tea Party, established and funded by the Kock brothers, infiltrated the GOP, surely you cannot be so blind as to think that the Dems just sat back and let the GOP thugs take over?

What you posted is patently not true. Since 2008, healthcare proposed back in the Clinton Adminstration has passed. Do explain why Gingrich and his House thugs refused to allow healthcare reforms to be brought to the floor of the House?

Do explain why Gingrich and the GOP also threatened government shut down unless Big Oil got another windfall? Sorry, but our patience as taxpayers is wearing thing with the GOP's hostage taking of the things we want to pay for and they would rather save for their corporate cronies businesses?

Let me say, for the records. It is not now nor EVER has been a Constitutional requirement that our taxes pay to keep businesses in existence.

Let me also remind you that every time the House majority was in the hands of the GOP, they threatened shut down. Why didn't the Dems when they had a House majority?

Progress is not gained in this country by men who are GOP bullies and sabotage our right to safe roads, bridges and tunnels. Explain why MConnell not 2 weeks ago, refused to pass funding legislation to improve transportation in what he knew would be mostly Dem states?

Sorry, you don't get to lob blame on both parties when across the country, the GOP is getting the wrath of the court of public opinion. Man up or shut down the GOP.

When I watch the House sessions on CNN, what I see are Dems like Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) providing truth and facts about the 8 Benghazi investigations which Republican McCarthy admitted was just a move by the GOP to destroy any hope Hillary Clinton had of running for the presidency.

When you looked at the face of Chaffetz, who when Rep. Slaughter, used Chaffetz's own admission of the Planned Parenthood phony videos that were edited, he blatantly refused to provide the unedited videos. But let's blame the Dems for that right?

There have been 8 pointless, useless Benghazi investigations all due to GOP Twerpie Generation snot nosed punks who called on Republicans on the Benghazi panel, only hand picked GOP witnesses, who, when they refused to lie under oath for the GOP, were rudely and obnoxiously interrupted by Trey Gowdy who then supplied the answers the GOP wanted. Is that not tyrannical?

Now, because Chaffetz and his Planned Parenthood panel were made fools of because they knowingly and intentionally used a bogus video as "proof," they called yet another investigation. This isn't not about Planned Parenthood. It's about denying women who can't afford more expensive healthcare to seek healthcare. It's all about the GOP's stupid, moronic attempts to gut the ACA. If we allowed them, they'd also gut SS, Medicare and Medicaid...and all of your payroll tax deductions for these would be Madoffed on Wall Street.

My point, and nothing that you have written in your comments has challenged that we are here today in the still declining country of the USA over the last several decades. That is a fact.

both parties worked against each other to accomplish the decline.

Are you sure patently is a correct and verifiable valid assessment of my previous comment.

I am not taking sides, betting on a democrat or a republican is like betting on a two horse race, where neither horse can cross the finish line.

Brad, I've lived through the assassination of JFK, RFK, Martin Luther, the Viet Nam War and 9/11. The real problem as I see it as a senior is the Goths like you who want this country to fail and predict only negatives. What in the world has gone wrong with the middle aged in the US? All I hear out of them is anger, egotism and a need to make their lives easier by making those who paid their dues for decades lives harder.

If the middle aged in the US don't pay more attention to their own children and less about themselves, your generation will have succeeded in producing rebellious children who are more aligned with the seniors the middle aged wish would disappear...leaving only your inheritances behind.

Too many of middle age, aged out of their parents homes too late. Then, they went through the shock and realization of what adulthood has always been...trial and error.

No. I don't believe this country is declining. I believe we have a generation of 40 and 50 somethings who simply do not want to grow up, much less grow old.

I married young, bought my home at age 19 and owned a business by age 17. In those days, there wasn't all of today's grand planning and design. You knew your strengths and weaknesses and you just moved your butt and got busy getting on with life.

To many 40 and 50 somethings today have the idea they are entitled to an easy life. Think again! You get an easy life when you pay your dues. Not before and not until.

When I listen to the GOP attack dogs all the same ages, I know what they really want is to confiscate everything seniors have worked for. Sorry..you want it? Work for it.

There are too many people in this country that seem to want things handed to them and don't really know what it is like to actually have to work. Then there are those that work there butts off and are happy with what they have. It seems that the ones that want everything handed to them are the ones that complain about this country the most . A lot more to say on that subject but no time to say it. I am one of those that has to work and I love this country. It could be better but it is the only one I care to live in. Greg.

I’m going to address a few of the things said by ladydeonne (2 years ago from Lynchburg. She may no longer be around, but these are still issues:)

“President Obama is hated because he is a man of color” That is so not true, I’m a Republican and know many from the GOP. Barack Obama is not HATED by the GOP. Yes, there are extremists who HATE and hate for color, but they are the Skinheads and other and fringe groups. Mainstream GOP members dislike his policies, consistency in enforcing the laws of our land, his follow through when it comes to supporting our allies and weakness when it comes to enforcing domestic laws on the book, repeated allowing his leadership to be challenged. Barack Obama is disliked (NOT HATED) by the GOP for his policies, not his color. Yes, I know that Al Sharpton, Jessee Jackson and Congressmen Charlie Rangell (of Harlem) will say that he is disliked because he is black. Sure, there are still some people who will say that, but for almost all, our President is our President. But, by and large, when people, rational, reasonable people are asked if they HATE our POTUS because he’s black, they are insulted. Racists in our country are in the minority. Mind you, there is racism, and all people are quite aware of that fact, and it is a problem, but even the statement that “President Obama is hated because he is a man of color” implies that I am one of those, that every person in this country and world hates him because of his color. Get off of it. In the whole scheme of things, most people have more pressing issues than to worry about whether or not Barack Obama’s feelings are hurt because of a perceived (for the most part) hatred because of his race. Where their next meal is coming from, that ISIS was miscalculated and is MUCH MORE than a JV team/league.

“ It is clear that the Republican party and many of the American people do not respect President Obama as a man or president.” It’s clear, eh? Since when is not liking someone a sign of disrespect and a character flaw? Respect is something that needs to be earned, commanded. It is not a RIGHT bestowed upon someone. Even our president. Sure, our president is held in regard with stature that elevates him above others at times. But he puts his pants on one leg at a time, and this difference in belief is one reason we left Britain’s sovereignty. We don’t have a king who is the undisputed leader and descended from a certain blood line. But, when our President tolerates members of the military being spat upon (just one example), he loses respect in the eyes of many and myself.

“Obama is the first president whose educational achievements have been questioned by the American people.” That is a simple one to solve; release the records and any doubt will go away. Why are his college record such a gd secret? When something is hidden, the knee-jerk response is WHY? What is there to hide? There is little know about this man’s past, so in the absence of concrete well-documented facts, aspersions are cast. That is an easy conclusion to draw. No one has jumped forward to say, I was his roommate at Harvard and man, the guy was a neat-freak, or he was quite studious, he kept to himself, or he was outgoing, or he always left his clothes in a heap, was always in the library, what a great roommate he was. In the absence of those real testimonials, creeps doubt about claims that he even WAS there. Heck, I was at the Harvard website to check the class photos-my Dad went to Harvard and I wanted to see what he looked like then-but, photos were not available for those years because Barack Obama was present at the same time. Why the need for secrecy? Why not be proud of being who you are?

“I do not remember reading or learning about the losing political party holding meetings and making an intention to see that the president failed and did not get elected a second term.” There were those who made no secret of the fact that they didn’t want a second term of Barack Obama. Is that a crime? If this is not remembered, that isn’t of consequence. This may be the first time it was VERBALIZED, but this is not the first time it has ‘happened’

“The hatred towards President Obama is unprecedented.” I’m a little unclear of the ‘hatred.’ There is dislike of his policies, but hatred of the man? Again, this may be true of the extreme groups on either side, but I need I point out the dislike taken to extreme, of President Bush, burning him in effigy?

“The hatred towards President Obama is unprecedented.” Unprecedented? hmmmm. Again, I don’t think you need to be a political historian to remember how the previous president was crucified by Democrats.

Brad, men like you are "insisters" no matter how much proof to the contrary of your posts we provide. That''s not exactly a mentally balanced way of think.

No other US president has had a Senator stand up in public and state, "We will GET RID of Obama." (Mitch McConnell March 2009) This is the proof you want to pretend away?

Men like you were perfectly happy when you were living the easy life and made the rest of us pay your corporate tax subsidies, your state tax subsidies and then you want to blame Obama. You are another of the big babies who aged out of his McParents home far too late in life.

Now, you think you are entitled to dump mindless austerity on us so you can have it "easy?" Think again.

May I remind you that in 2008, President Obama won by 62% of the vote? Who precisely didn't want President Obama?

You need to go back to your basement in McParents home. You are not ready for prime time politics.

There is NO hatred for President Obama except by the same Stars and Bars CONfederates who are also CONservatives.

And let's be honest. The Corn Pones and Mutton Chops states are like yo yos politically. When Lincoln put a stop to slavery (which these idiots states love to deny now and call the Civil War a war for "states" rights...yes...states rights to own and buy and sell slaves for free labor for their plantations.) they lunatics were Republican and switch to Democrat when Lincoln freed the slaves. Then, they went from Democrat to Republican again when FDR saved this country from Hoover's financial fallout...just like GWB.

Sorry, but it isn't about party. It's about men like you thinking you can rule with an iron hand. Think again.

You want to explain how our tax dollars wastefully spent was HIS political capital?

I believe President Obama was put in office by white people in order to have someone to blame the failing policies and critical mistakes made by the other presidents on. The American way is to use black people to cover up white people mistakes. They commit a crime, they try to blame it on someone black. We all knew from the jump that the white men were not going to let a black man completely fix what they screwed up. This will make it look like black people are as smart or smarter than they are. For this reason we will have to elect another white man for president in order to get the other white men to work with him to fix the problems that we face in this country and around the world.

    • Ewent profile image

Eleanore Ferranti Whitaker 18 months ago from Old Bridge, New Jersey

Nincompoop...The Bonesmens' names are =Karl Rove, Rev. Ralph Reed, Grover Norquist, George W. Bush and Ken Starr of WhiteWater fame. You can find this fact documented in any record of Bush's college frat boys club and also as a member of the Young Republicans during their college days.

Bush never was president. The fools who voted for him were duped by the back room GOP. In 1994, Cheney wanted to try a run for president. His own party didn't want him. As GHWB recently stated about Cheney, he was a "controller." The back room RNC didn't want another solo flyer like Nixon. That was the lesson learned from Watergate. So, Cheney used the back door of Halliburton when he became a CEO of Halliburton in 1996, just 2 years before Halliburton and its allies in corporate America paid for his and Bush's campaign. But the sweet deal was that as soon as Cheney became VP, Cheney would then provide that no bid contract for a war in Iraq. Iraq, having one of the largest oil fields in the Middle East and Halliburton eying the $350 billion in profit it would later earn from Iraq.

You boys have no clue what you are talking about. You obviously never take the time to study the candidates you vote for. You repeat what you hear on Fox News.

As for 9/11, those of us who live 45 minutes from Ground Zero would tell you that from the admission of Nanny Rice herself during the 9/11 Commission's investigation, there were 6 prior warnings of an al Qaeda attack. But, since Cheney already had a deal for Iraq with Halliburton, Bush and your President Cheney ignored those warnings.

Most of us living in the Metro area know that the real reason Cheney had Bush campaign for a war in Iraq all around the country from 2001 to 2003 was to keep Bush away from Cheney's White House and on marketing trail to sell Iraq to Americans.

The only glitch on 9/11 was one Cheney salivated over many times: Bush was away from DC and in Florida. Only Cheney was quickly taken to that DC bunker for protection. Cheney knew that keeping Bush away if a Terrorist attack occurred meant he was become president, come hell or high water.

To those who vainly defend the conspiracy theory called "The Report of the 9/11 Commission" I ask a few questions:

Why did the eight-story WTC bldg #6 fall first, before either of the twin-towers, and leave a gigantic crater?

Why did WTC Bldg #7 fall at all long after the twin-towers?

Why was GW's brother Marvin head of the WTC Security up until September 11th when a Walker-cousin tookover?

Why did Jeb Bush as then-governor of Florida issue a proclamation a couple days before 9/11 that he was "commander-in-chief" of the National Guard of Florida?

Why did the flashcard words read by students in the Florida classroom, where President Bush suddenly had to go visit, contain the words KITE MUST HIT STEEL?

When they lost the election in 2008 to a bi-racial president, they hauled out the Stars and Bars, and like a bunch of malcontent morons vowed to obstruct government and this president's Constitutional right to execute the duties of his office.

Now..let's talk about Ted Cruz...son of a Cuban rebel Daddy and his Canadian birth certificate. Cruz admitted publicly in 2013 that he "gave up his Canadian citizenship." Facts you can check at the GAO.gov site...EVERY Republican state gets back a return of $1.35 to $1.85 for the $1 they pay in federal taxes. The Dem states average 55 cents for the $1 these states pay and this doesn't include our contributions to paying oil spill fines for the Republican polluter states or the cost of their relic military, prison and gun manuacturing industries. These are people who never leave their states and view the world from the Pre-Civil War and Great Depression days. Anything 2015 is Progress Shock to these regressives.

Nicomp...keep lying and using that all too convenient hater memory. "I have been very candid about my past." Bush said this during a press conference a few days before Election Day 2000. He was then in the middle of media firestorm that followed the revelation that he had once been arrested for drunken driving.

During the campaign, he had not been "candid" about other significant matters, including what seemed to be a missing year in his National Guard service (which did not jibe with what he wrote about his service in his autobiography) and his apparent (though unacknowledged) shift from supporting abortion rights in the late-1970s to opposing them in the 1990s.

"I’m a uniter not a divider." This was a Bush catchphrase, a mantra.

During the 2000 presidential campaign and the Florida fracas, Bush and his lieutenants engaged in down-and-dirty and divisive political maneuvers. Just ask Senator John McCain, Bush’s main Republican opponent, whose record on veterans affairs was falsely attacked by a Bush surrogate and who was accused falsely by the Bush campaign of opposing research for breast cancer.

"My plan unlocks the door to the middle class of millions of hard-working Americans." All the available slots of this top-ten list could be filled by statements Bush made to sell his tax cuts at various points—on the campaign trail, in 2001 (for the first major tax-cuts battle), and in 2003 (for the second major tax-cuts battle).

More lies your CONman Bush used in his 8 years you can't man up to:

Bush frequently claimed his tax cuts would help low- and middle-income Americans, and in 2000 and 2001 he often spoke of a mythical single-mom waitress, making $22,000 or so, who would be guided into the middle-class by his tax cuts.

When the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche reviewed his tax plan for Time magazine during the 2000 campaign, it found that his beloved waitress would receive no reduction in her taxes. Zippo. In 2001, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found that this waitress might gain $200 from Bush’s tax cuts if she managed to pull in $25,000 a year. But such a sum would not place her on the highway to the middle class. In fact, about 12 million low- and moderate-income families received no tax relief from Bush’s 2001 tax cuts (and millions of families were left out of his 2003 package).

About 45 percent of the 2001 package was slated to go to the top 1 percent of income earners.

In 2003, Citizens for Tax Justice calculated that individuals earning between $16,000 and $29,000 would net about $99 from Bush’s proposed tax cuts.

Like that like Nicomp? Or do you just play innocent and call "lies" of your persuasion "distortions?"

"This allows us to explore the promise and potential of stem cell research." That was what Bush said during an August 9, 2001, speech, announcing his decision to permit the federal funding of stem cell research that only used stem cells lines that existed before his speech.

Bush was trying to have it both ways. He could appease his social conservative supporters by saying no to any federal support for new stem cell lines, and he could claim to support research that might potentially help millions of people. There was one problem. The 60 pre-existing lines did not exist. The number was closer to a dozen—if that—an amount that experts in the field did not consider sufficient for research purposes. And when scientists and media reports convincingly discredited Bush’s count—which Bush might have initially assumed to be correct—

the Bush administration kept repeating its untruthful position. Sticking to the 60-lines fantasy (or lie) permitted Bush to avoid making an explicit decision to curtail stem cell research. But in effect that was what he had done without admitting it.

"We must uncover every detail and learn every lesson of September the 11th." Bush said this in November 2002, as he appointed Henry Kissinger to be chairman of an independent 9/11 commission that Bush had orignially opposed. (Kissinger lasted two weeks in the job.) But Bush has not encouraged the uncovering of every detail.

His administration did not turn over information to the congressional 9/11 inquiry about intelligence warnings the White House reviewed before 9/11.

The administration also refused to say whether certain pre-9/11 intelligence warnings—including a July 2001 report noting that Osama bin Laden was poised to launch a "spectacular" attack "designed to inflict mass casualties against U.S. facilities or interests"—were shared with Bush and what he did in response, if he had received them.

Refused to say NICOMP? Or lied by Omission?

Moreover, the administration claimed that Bush’s awareness of these warnings (not the warnings themselves) was classified information—an argument unprecedented in the modern history of national security secrets.

Bush also refused to let the congressional inquiry release the portion of its final report that concerned connections between the 9/11 hijackers and Saudi citizens or officials.

You may like to play your games of deciding what you consider truth and fact, but as President Obama stated in his SOTU speech yesterday, truth and facts always surface and when it does blockheads who insist their lies are truth and facts always go down with their ships.

But. I do wonder what you boys will do when it's found out that Cruz was illegally allowed by the state of Texas to run for Senator. After all, Cruz was born in Calgary Hospital which almost everyone in Calgary knows and you don't.

And before you go that with that BS that his mommy was an American..My friend's grandfather was born in West Virginia. He is a Canadian citizen of Alberta and lives in Calgary to be exact.

The citizenship rules in Canada are not the same as the ones in the US. So Cruz will have to prove that his mother didn't EVER vote in Alberta elections as a citizen, not to mention that Cruz already stated 4 years ago he gave up his Canadian citizenship..which begs the question how he got so far ahead of the line at INS that he could become a US citizen in just 4 years and not the typical 7 everyone else has to endure.

One other question Mr. Know it All...If he has not lived in the US as a US Citizen for at least 7 years, he is not eligible for the presidency or to be a Senator according to Article 1 of the US Constitution.

I know you liars love to call the President childish names to prove how low a level of education the Y'all Qaedas all have but you are not going to get away with pushing any candidate who is not born here in the US for any Senate or Presidential position no matter how hard you try. Don't get carried away with feelings of worth and your own self-importance. GOP is an inanimate object, a group of people who doesn't hate. People hate and in this case, I think hate isn't realy used correctly. ISIS hates, the KKK hates, the Muslim brotherhood hates, but the GOP? Does the Democrative Party HATE?

NO, the Dems and the GOP differ in opinion, but do they HATE? I disagree with President Obama, but that doesn't mean that I hate him. I'm sure you disagree with me, but if HATE goes along with disagrement in this lexicon, there's something wrong with your lexicon or your way of thinking is pretty warped.

GOP dislike the President for many reasons, but they don't HATE him. There may be members of the GOP who even say, " I HATE President Obama." But, I'm sure if you got them to dust off the key to their soul and look inwards, they'd find that they really don't HATE, but they dislike what he has done to our country which once was great; great like the Roman republic.

He had such opportunity to unite and lead, but did neither. People were willing against their better judgement to give him the benefit of the doubt , they trusted that this little known senator would do the right thing. WHen they had been betrayed time and time again, they stopped supporting and believing the sacred trust that they had placed in him. They had been violated.

When you're violated, it's hard and not always possible from a human nature standpoint to turn the other cheek.

The GOP doesn't hate this president? You could fool me. GOP Senate Minority Leader, (R-KY) Mitch McConnell, March 2009, "We will get RID of Obama." Really? 3 months into a new presidency with the US economy on its knees, the 6 biggest banks begging US taxpayer bailouts and 8 million who lost jobs from 2004 to 2008?

Not hate? When OH's Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH) recently admitted publicly that the GOP Senators and House Members were told to block anything this president did back in January 2009?

Do explain how that isn't hate? Do explain why the GOP has consistently chosen to obstruct every step this administration has taken in the last 8 years?

Do tell us which Obama policies they could possibly have a problem with? Healthcare reform that rightfully allows 16 million formerly unisured Americans to finally afford to pay for THEIR healthcare so their healthcare costs don't jack the price of our premiums?

Or maybe it's the policies regarding bank corruption and the banking reforms of January 2009 intended to prevent taxpayers from constantly bailing out the 6 Biggest Banks with CEOs who earn over $10.6 million annually not counting cash payouts, stocks and other perks that increase their annual incomes to close to $22 million a year? Or maybe it was Obama's foreign policy that took out bin Laden? I'm sure that the GOP hated that it wasn't that coward "Mission Accomplished" Bush...right?

Obama has done more for this country that cowards of the right or the GOP will ever admit.

The GOP hates Obama because he is a Class Act they can't ever hope to follow and when he speaks even those with the least education understand him and his intent..unlike the GOP whose double speak has Americans reading between the lines. Don't wonder why the crooks of the GOP today cannot be trusted to tell the truth.

Bush and Cheney were accomplished liars who so extremely relied on secrecy that the 9/11 Commission had to force Bush and Cheney to admit they withheld memos that al Qaeda planned the 9/11 attack..That be what you think the GOP hates?

Ewent, Am I the two year old in this scenario? "We will get RID of Obama." How is that not hate you ask?

That is only a statement of intent and no hate. Good Lord.

As far as the time goes, Barack Obama showed his stripes very early on (even in his candidacy) and then confirmed them again and again, and in my mind, the most culminating moment was when he said at the c-span healthcare summit at Camp David that 'in case you hadn't noticed, the election is over and I won, you didn't.' or some such nonsense. He didn't just make that statement to one. Many people were the beneficiary of similar stattements.

There were more instances like that. He was elected to lead and he has not. Leadership is making you (even if you disagree with me) want to do things my way, or working to find common ground that we both share.

An example might be, since he and the GOP differ on gun control positions. The GOP wants citizens to be able to exercise their right to defend themselves and the Demcrats agree with this. Finding that common ground, for example might be, 'but do you need an oozie (sp?) to defend yourself or to hunt a deer? I fear I'm out of space so will pick up in a different thread.

Did the GOP obtuct? That's one way to look at it. It can also be seen that HARRY REID obstructed. How many bills were pronounced DOA in the Senate, before they went to committee or Harry Reid refused to let the members of his caucus vote on them?

Why would the do such a thing.. Surely Harry Could do no wrong. Well, just like Harry, these members were up for reelection from time to time and the Senate could never have remained under Democratic control if these Senators voted against legislation that was popular with the people.

Ask Kirsten Jillebrand or Lisa Murkowski. Rather, read one of many articles yourself:

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/368369/harry... and I dare you to read it all the way through. People disagree and if in your book, THATS HATE, there's alot, actually 2 months worth of hate in this world.

@Larry, Johnson set us on the road to ruin with his Great Society and his heritage of unfunded liabilities.

Johnson took office in 1963, finished that term and was elected to one more that gets us to 1068, Even if what you say is true, that was 50 years or so ago and no one has been able to fix it. I think you are mistaken or do not appreciate the ups and downs this country has gone through.

nicomp...Your posts are weakened by your inability to use supporting evidence. Sorry but your personal opinions are not facts or truths unless you can provide supporting evidence.

The reality today is that Republicans are not the party of the people. Every action they take proves that. Start with the 2 Republican Governers of MI and FL who concealed the massive lead in drinking water. I can prove this is fact you will just deny. Your denials of what I and others posts only proves a too deep seated need to try and reinvent the Republican Party. Which, I wouldn't mind if I had not been a Republican for 33 years in NJ. Don't tell me that Republican men are not gender biased. They consistently put white, middle aged males with brand names and big money support in key postions where our tax dollars are spent. Ryan, Issa, Chaffetz, Cantor and the rest of the white middle aged Twerpie Generation Republican attack dogs all take their marching order from Charles and David Koch. Eric Cantor was photographed, as was Ryan existing meetings with the Koch robber barons over the last 5 years. Are we to pretend or deny there isn't Koch collusion and money influence in the Republican Party that is driving these nuts to impose mindless austerity on everyone but men with big money?

I'd like to put a few pennies in this discussion and maybe that will put some wrangling to rest. The party, GOP, does not hate President Obama. They differ in opinion as to what he is doing, policy wise, some disagreements are strong. But strong disagreement is strong disagreement; not HATE.

I knowt that when George Bush was in power, that the Democratic Party, disagreed fervrently with his policies. But I doubt that their was real hatred towards him, either. Strong disagreement, but hate?

After all, when you disagree with your Mom, your wife, your friend, whomever-is that a statement of hate? Putting the shoe on the other foot, why should it, why would it be any different with a President?

That is a frame of mind I've never been able to wrap my head around, but it appears that the big kids on the block from Washington, DC aren't going to set a tone of amelioration. Is there some reason, that this tone can't come from us? From people we know and can influence.

No, I really don't feel that disagreement, even strong and harsh, can be construed as HATE. It is healthy discourse and discussion. But this country needs a ton of warm fuzzies, not the cold pricklies that I see all across the internet, read and when I watch the news.

Wouldn't it be nice to say that we were part of that wonderful group on HubPages which gathered together and tried to solve some problems instead of argued their differences, further dividing this country?

In the words of Rodney King, "Can we all get along?" What possible good can come from arguing; discussing, yes. But, arguing? No. Arguing tend to bring out the worst in people unless there is a moderator to channel the disagreement. Personally, I prefer Rodney King's approach.

Again, we need some big kids on the block as the people inside the beltway, with a few exceptions (on 'either side of the aisle') don't seem to be inclined to do that. Is there any, any reason at all, that writers on HubPages can't be the big kids and start a discussion about how we can all get along? I dare all of us to try and maybe that can be a resolution for 2016 that we can keep.

nicomp...I ignored your lies about Obama that you cited because I don't dignify a liar's ideas of trying to defame a beloved president of greatest achievements and accomplishments. Your ideas of a successful president fall so far below that of most Americans...You live in denial. More's the pity. Just don't expect decent, honest Americans to dignify lies by corrupt crooks of the right who hate themselves most of all.

Utter horsepoop. I don't like Obama's ideology because it is Communist, which fails everywhere it is tried and murdered 100 million innocent human beings in the 20th Century. On the other hand, I love Dr. Ben Carson, Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas, Alan Keyes, Shelby Steele, John McWhorter, Condoleeza Rice, Mia Love, Tim Scott, Michael Steele, J. C. Watts, and countless other black public figures because they stand for what is good, noble, true, right, and honorable in the world. It has absolutely nothing to do with their race, Karl Marx.

Yikes. First of all 'parties' don't have feelings. That's like saying a rock LOVES or a couch ENJOYS. (Maybe people enjoy what they do on the couch, but the couch doesn't have feelings about it).

Now that the grammar lesson is done, the Republican party doesn't FEEL; I'm sure that you meant the MEMBERS of the Republican party. THEY, those members don't hate the president, they disagree with his policies. Oh, I'm sure there are people who have said, "I hate _____" and in war, the feelings about your enemies need to be pretty extreme for men to justify killing their enemies and being able to sleep that same night, but again, it's not the person that they hate, it is more likely what they stand for (ideology, like nazism). But much of the time, the hatred for the ideology was placed on to the German soldier. That's the mindset they needed to

How many people do you actually HATE? You might say you 'strongly dislike' them, but HATE? IMHO, 'hate' is an emotion so strong, that it is reserved for the Sattanical.

I think most people when confronted with something that a person does or represents that they don't like (I hate it when she twirls her hair like that.'). They hate the action (twirling hair), but they don't hate the PERSON who twirls her hair.

So it is with the Republican party. They may strongly dislike, or even hate, what President Obama stands for, they may not agree with his political ideology, but the person??

Democrats said they hated George Bush. Really? I submit that the real object of the hate were the POLICIES of Dubya, though putting a man on a stick and burning him in effigy comes pretty darn close in my book of hatred-or was it just plain immaturity?

Why does Bernie Sanders hate rich people and people working on Wall Street and people working in the Federal Government (he says government is corrupt) ?

I guess there's hate on both side of the aisle.

Hate, does anyone really hate, or are they impassioned? Do they have extreme feelings of dislike. I'm more for using the word that describes the intense feeling (like, disgusted, disdain, loathe) than to roll all emotions into one ball, take the easy way out and call them all: hate!

      As far as Bernie Sanders

    • Ewent profile image

It is time to remove the Saint Bernard halo. Sanders is not forthright. He is hiding who his NYSE and Goldman Sachs "small donors" really are. The problem for Bernie Sanders isn't just his lies of omission, it is his policies.

Think about this. In the first debate, he stated he plans to dump the ACA in favor of single payer healthcare. Okay....so not only the 16 million Americans who have ACA healthcare insurance are left in a void until Sanders kicks in the single payer insurance, but so are those on Medicare and Medicaid. Does Sanders think he can turnover 200 million Americans on healthcare insurance in one year? Then, there's the matter of his total lack of experience in foreign affairs.

As a woman I highly resent that Sanders believes that women are no competition. He proved this by waiting 44 years to run against a woman...not men like Bush '41, Bush '43, Gore or Clinton. The suspicion is that Sanders, a 7 time failed mayoral candidate waiting until Hillary declared a run. He didn't do this in 2008 because he wanted to see if a man would win against her. When Obama won, Sanders had the proof that he needed that women were no competition to a man running for president.

And before any of the male schmucks go there..Yes..I do support my gender..It would be a tad bizarre if I supported yours in favor or my own when claims from men like that are proof men are biased toward THEIR gender...after 44 male presidents? What else?

Men like you have serious mental problems accepting the reality of equality between genders..so ..the first thing you bully boys do is run for that word "feminist."

What in hell do you call 44 presidents ALL male and more than 85% of all CEOs Male...and 90% of all heads of religions...Male...Mr. MANists?

I don't intend to be a man-dependent like the women your kind of man is used to for everything from how to dress down to what to do with our own bodies..

As a man from Ohio, your state is in dire straits just like Arkansas, North Carolina, Michigan, Maine, Kansas and Iowa...All right wing states that live as if the Great Depression never ended.

If you think for one minute that after 8 years of obstruction from people like you that you will just beg more bailouts for your states, think again. It was always incumbent upon people in their red states to get off their duffs and live in 2016...not 1935.

So when you are finished playing superior doofus, go and check out how many of my hubs have been featured....The only thing you have going for you in OH is more badly polluted fracked air, water and soil. You wanted it..now clean up your own messes on YOUR state tax dollars...not mine.

Here is a link about your Oil state's industry that gets part of that $16 billion this year for the oil addicts like you. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/business/2...

The link is from your own Columbus newspaper..Who expects an "ignernt" to stop living off everyone else? Perhaps, your wild imagination that bolsters a lagging old coot ego has to do with the massive pollution you hope the rest of the states will help OH to clean up?
