Will the good Muslims please stand up?

Updated on April 9, 2012

This time another holy war could wipe out mankind.

Will the good Muslims please stand up?
We are told our war is not with Islam, but with terrorists. But if there are about a billion and a half Muslims in the world, why are we not hearing more from the innocent ones? Why is there not an outcry coming from them about the activities that are giving their religion such a bad name in the rest of the world?

I have a friend who assures me most Muslims are good, peace loving people. He tells me about his Muslim American relatives who served bravely on our side in World War ll. Some were highly decorated. I want to believe him, but that is all the more reason they should be speaking out.

It is reminiscent of the Nazis under Hitler in the 1930s and 1940s. Where were the good Germans, the good Christians, the good Catholics when their neighbors were disappearing? Where were they during the infamous Kristallnacht - “the night of lights” - when German stormtroopers broke glass in stores and synagogues in both Germany and Austria? Ninety one Jews were killed and 3,000 were thrown in concentration camps. How could their German neighbors let this happen without protest? Before the war was over, the holocaust killed some six million Jews and millions more Russians, Poles, Gypsies, even Catholics. Why was there not a monumental outcry from the pope and all the private citizens, old and young alike?

By the way, most Arab nations, who have always been enemies of the Jews, sympathized with Germany and the Nazis in the war.

I think it was because people were scared. They did not want to get involved. They thought, let them persecute and kill my neighbors as long as they leave me and my family alone. I think maybe that is what happening now with the “good Muslims”.

Or maybe it was like Catholics in the 1500s, during the Inquisition. How did they let the clergy get away with torturing and killing Indians in Mexico and South America and other places? Did they not know what their priests were doing? Or did they just not care? Or were they afraid? Are the people being dominated to this very day by brutal dictators around the world simply afraid to act or even to speak out in protest?

While most of Islam apparently acquiesces, look what the terrorists have done in the last 30 years or so: . They bombed the Marine barracks in Beirut, killing 270 people, among them,240 Marines who were there as part of the peacekeeping force. . In 1983 they put a bomb on an airplane, killing 243 innocent passengers and16 crew members, and more on the ground in Lockerbie, Scotland. . In 1983 they bombed The World Trade Center – for the first time –killing 6 and injuring more than 1,000. . Their most barbaric act, of course, was flying airplanes into The World Trade Center and killing some 3,000 innocent people, and into the Pentagon.

What has outraged Americans the most was the attack on the World Trade Center, which many, if not most, compare to Pearl Harbor. But at Pearl Harbor at least Americans had a chance to defend themselves, to shoot back. Those at the World Trade Center were helpless victims. Again, this was terrorists attacking us, not Islam in general. But many people did not, and still don't make that distinction. Which is the main reason the Muslim public relations effort should go into high gear.

We could go on and on. The “shoe bomber”, the 13-0ld-girl in Somalia who was stoned to death in a stadium in front of 1,000 onlookers because she was “unclean”, having been raped. Muslim women are completely subservient to men, forced to wear “burkas”or whatever, so that only their eyes can be seen.

Or, let's not forget Daniel Pearl. He was an American Jew, a correspondent – a news man – whom they beheaded on international television, supposedly to delighted Arabs and other Muslims.

In spite of, or maybe because of, these heinous activities, Muslim strength is growing. The population of France, for example, is now 8% Muslim. There are sections in Paris where Sharia law is the law. The police don't dare go there. And, to be politically correct, (a term I hate because it represents doing “the right thing” which is often just cowardice), France recently fined famed film star Brigitte Bardot 15,000 Euros ($23,400) because she had the temerity to criticize the way Muslims treat animals.

In England, radical Muslims have demonstrated in the streets, carrying signs that say – to England or to Europe - “Your 9/11 is on it's way”.

In America, Muslims wanted to build a mosque next to the 9/11 site. Then they said it was not really going to be a mosque, just a social gathering spot. Anyway you slice it, putting anything near ground zero even remotely resembling Islam is the epitome of insensitivity.

The Muslim population is growing something like 8 times faster than the rate of westerners. In fact, population experts predict that by the end of the century more than half the people on earth will be Muslims.

The holy book of Islam, the Koran, preaches violence against any “infidel” who will not convert to Islam. Believers are told to kill anyone who will not convert. The goal of Islam is to make the entire world its followers. There is a lengthy treatment on line explaining that these passages – some 100 of them – are taken out of context. Maybe so, but the whole concept of jihad is pretty frightening.

So, if we can believe that the terrorists are only a small fraction of the Muslim population, and the rest are afraid to act or speak out, then what they need to counteract all these violent acts is a good public relations program. And I have some suggestions. Send missionaries door to door all over America, the way Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons do, handing out literature and telling people about all the good, positive things Muslims have done in the past, how they have contributed to society, and the good things they are doing now. Run infomercials on television, spreading the word of good Muslim deeds.

Visit high schools and deliver convincing speeches.
Have guest speakers on all the radio and television talk shows. Establish charities that don't send money out of this country to Muslims in Arab countries, but instead spend the money here in the USA.
Have guest speakers at service clubs like Rotary or Kiwanis to spread the good word.
Establish more college courses that teach the historical facts about Islam in community colleges as well as in leading universities. Build Muslim hospitals. It seems to work for Catholics. Sponsor blood banks.

The list could go on, but you get the idea. The good Muslims need to stand up and be counted. There are those who fear we will soon have an all out religious war. But unlike the Crusades, this time we have drones, guided missiles and nuclear weapons. The potential to destroy mankind is here.
I hope the good Muslims are paying attention – and will soon stand up and be counted.

America and our allies are not without blame. For example, I think the war in Iraq was a huge mistake - but that is subject matter for a diffrent hub.

Josak I really quite liked the way you put it. I am currently at work so didn't get the time to read the entire hub with dedication. Will be back soon to give my honest opinion as well.

Well it should be pretty clear by now that the vast vast majority old Muslims are great peaceful people, if it were not so we would surely be far worse off there being 1.5 billion of them and they being the fastest growing religion in the world. If even one in every hundred Muslims was a terrorist every thousand it would be enough to bring down a country like the US

They might say the same thing to us.

What is our record for the last 100 years?

Two World Wars. Nuclear Arms Race. Jim Crow Laws (USA) Aparheid (S.Africa), Rule of India by the British.

In 1953, the USA overthrew the legitamate government in Iran and installed the Shah (A despot).

      The Vietnam War

      The 2nd Iraq War.

I've got a few others, too.

What is there record? Is it really bad compared to ours. The terrorists are extremists. We've got them (Christian Extremists) here, too.

To quote Christ: Get the Plank out of your own eyes before taking the splinter from mine.
