World Problems My Views, August 2020

Updated on August 30, 2020

The year 2020 is the year of disaster and fear

Give this man a scythe and dress him in black, and he can resemble Mr death himself. This is how miserable we feel today. The COVID 19 and self-isolation, and the explosion in Beirut can make this year, the year of death and fear.

This is how our enemy number one looks like

This is our enemy number one, it looks even pretty, but it has killed 750,000 people already ,and we do not know yet when and how we can control it. We hope that a vaccine can be found soon, so that we can go back to live a normal life.

The 2020, year of disaster and fear

Welcome to our diary article (105) World problems and my views, August 2020

Dear readers, to keep a record of what I have seen during my life, I am writing these articles. Anyhow, last year we believed that the year 2020 was going to be the year of great opportunities; it even seemed to rime when we said, the year 2020 is the year of opportunity; but instead of opportunities, because of the coronavirus, it has become a year of disaster, loss of life, and lost opportunities, there are disastrous things happening every day, and worst of all we are scared and in fear for our lives, and nobody knows when things will get better.

So, I believe that the year 2020, is going to be a year to remember for the wrong reasons, because of the virus and other negative happenings. Who could have known that this disease was coming? And the negative impact that it is causing. Now, because of the COVID 19, there will be changes that will last in the future for a long time; we may not like what is happening, but we are forced to live through it and accept it, because there is no way to avoid that.

You see, before this disease started, the entire world was enjoying so much freedom, we were dreaming of future opportunities, people were happy and were travelling everywhere in the world, the economies were doing well, there were a few things that we did not like, but it was nothing compared to what is happening now, with this disease around. Which is worrying us when we go out if we can go out, because we may be ordered to self-isolate and stay home.

Staying home too long makes people depressed. So, I believe that the best way to deal with this problem, is to think that this is just another story of our life that we can tell one day, when all this is over.

Anyhow, we have had the first wave of this corona-virus disease, and we were thinking that the worst was over, so, we started to relax and go back to what we did before, but then the coronavirus started to come back, and all the hard work that we had done during the first wave vanished. So, we must start all over again. We must self-isolate, while the authorities are ordering lock-downs, which some people do not accept easily, and this creates problems. Their attitude will only make things worse, and who knows how long this disease will last. Anyhow, while they are bombarding us about what to do to keep safe from this COVID 19, they stop, only to tell us other bad news; in the city of Beirut a massive explosion has killed many people. So, let us see what has happened, then will go back to the coronavirus.

The damage of the massive Beirut explosion

The massive Beirut explosion is hard to comprehend , but this photo above can give us an idea how huge it was, a crater of 140 meters wide has formed where the storage was, several warehouses have been completely destroyed.

The explosion has even damaged building far away from the port, so much so that about 300,000 people now have completely lost their homes, or they have become inhabitable from the blast. If you look closely you will see the buildings with no windows.

Beirut Lebanon massive explosion disaster

While the entire world is trying to find a way how to control the coronavirus, we are forced to turn our attention to something else, because other horrible things have happened, when they could have been avoided. These happenings around the world, make us think that even today, with all the knowledge that we have, things that could have been avoided happen. So, we ask ourselves, who is to blame?

Here I am talking about Lebanon Beirut massive explosion Tuesday the 4th of August 2020, that has caused at least 154 deaths, 5000 people hurt and more that 300,000 people displaced, since their residences have been damaged and unhabitable.

It is not known what really happened, but it is believed that first there was an explosion and a fire, and the firefighter were there to extinguish the fire, when the second massive explosion of ammonium nitrate took place. So, the first ten firefighter that were there are all dead. The massive explosion has destroyed everything around and made a large hole in the ground about 140 m., wide, that subsequently filled up with sea water.

The people in Beirut are blaming the government for not having done anything to remove the ammonium nitrate and prevent this disaster happening. Because the ammonium nitrate should have been removed from the docks ages ago. So, they are protesting violently and asking the government to resign every day; finally, the government gave in and the 10th of August have resigned.

Anyhow, today I wonder who is running the country of Lebanon with so many problems to solve? I suppose that we must wait and see what happens next. But let us hope that they find a way how to overcome this disaster, with the help of many countries that are willing to help them.

Now let us go back to talk about the corona-virus pandemic.

Brazil one of the Corona-virus mass grave

This photo shows one of the many Corona-virus mass grave in Brazil. There have been so many deaths that they are digging graves everywhere, I believe that they have even buried their deaths on the beach.

Back to talk about the corona-virus.

After the first wave of this disease, a second wave is coming, and we do not like it. So, today we go around hoping that the coronavirus disappears and things get better soon, but it does not happen, it seems to me that people do not follow the social distancing instructions, they do many things that they should not do, this attitude will only make it harder to control the virus.

What is wrong with them, they do not want to follow the authorities instructions, because they want their own ways, but their ways will result in more people being sick, because this COVID 19 is very contagious, the only way to avoid it is that you must self-isolate, but even this is not foolproof. So, people are not happy, they do not follow what the authorities asks them to do and do stupid things. There is hope that they can make this vaccine to control the virus, whoever makes the vaccine first does not matter, but even here there are problems.

Today there is a chance that Russia has made one of the vaccine to control the coronavirus, but most expert are saying that it needs a lot more testing, to decide whether it is good enough to use on people. This is followed by UK claiming that they have a vaccine on the way, and then followed by the University of Queensland Australia, they all need to be tested.

Meanwhile, the virus continues to make people sick, and many people die. Here we must note that, not all countries are affected the same way. Today while I am writing this article is the 31st of August, and the countries with the most corona-virus deaths are: the USA with about 186,000 deaths, followed by Brazil with 121,000, then India with 65,000, and Mexico with 64,000, Just to name a few. And everyday their number goes up.

This is what is happening in the world, but what about Australia, which is the country that I am writing this from. In Australia I believe that the first wave did not affect that much, we had only a bit over 100 deaths. But there is this second wave that is devastating the state of Victoria, now Australia has over 600 deaths mostly in the state of Victoria, where this second wave is highly active.

The premier of Victoria is doing his best, telling people what to do. Let us hope that what they are doing works out and stops or slows this disease down.

This is all for the time being, since I do not have any good news to report, I stop.

See you next time.
