racist against white people?

So there I was, working my job. I must have been there for a few hours already. I work at a aeropostale in florida. In case you don't know what it is, it's a huge retail store. Well we have a huge sale going on today, plus in florida, it is a tax free weekend for back to school items.

Well the whole store is shoulder to shoulder with customers. People are aggitated and tempers were flying. Children were crying and moms were yelling. Teenagers were complaining and husbands were just standing at the front of the store waiting for the family to check out.

One bigger black woman had asked me if there were any more of a certain coat in the back of the store and asked me to go look for it. I had checked and found none of the coats back there at all. As I walked out of the back room and onto the main floor, I saw a bigger black woman right at the door when I walked out, and I started to tell her that I was sorry, but we didn't have anymore of the coats. She stared at me confused. It was then that I realized that I was talking to a different woman. I apologized and said, "I'm sorry I had you confused for someone else." Remember, the whole place is shoulder to shoulder, and I see hundreds of people on a NORMAL day. Today was especially bad.

as I was walking towards the woman who had originally asked, the mistaken woman saw that it was another bigger black woman. She told me, "OH! It's because we all look alike isn't it??"

I stopped dead in my tracks and I had to ask, "excuse me?" She repeated herself and I told her, "ma'am I'm sorry, I just had you mistaken. I would have done the same thing to a blond hair white teenage girl. There are a lot of people in the store right now." She then continued on with her ranting about how I think that they all just look alike.

This is not the case by far. I'm not racist and I never have been. And on a humorous note, I would most think Japanese people look alike.

What is it with people?

I was so busy with work that I couldn't even take time to realize how I would take the comments she made towards me. I couldn't think about whether I should be offended, or humored, or taken back, etc. I know white people usually get the bad rap for the race card, but no one stops to think that other races could do the same. At least not as much.

I'm 22 years old and work in a simple retail store trying to pay bills. I don't have time to worry about your stupid social problems and your bitterness to other races. I mistook you for someone else. I said sorry, get over it. And the problem right now isn't even that I got accused of being racist. It's that stupid people have taken over the world. They are shopping and eating at all the same places that smarter people are. I'm not talking PHD educated smart. Just common sense smart. Being socially aware smart. Being Patient smart.

The problem is that people don't take the time to notice the person next to them, or understand the situation at the moment. If she would have just taken a couple seconds to realize that the store was busy, and there were tons of people all around, maybe she could come to a conclusion that I was simply mistaken. NOT because they all look alike.

Most (not all) blacks these days are carrying a chip on their shoulder! Simply watch the news, they are probably just mad because all the crap Obama promised them will and has never come to pass! LOL

I wouldn't take it personally, the woman was racist herself that's why she thought of a racist comment.

I live in Malaysia, surreounded by Chinese, Malays and Indians, and I'm English, white (well sorta brownish actually, from living here) and round eyed..... and you know what, the locals all say the same thing, we 'round eyes' all look the same to them!

Go figure, and don't worry, you did exactly the right thing, it's their problem, not yours.
