why are tea partiers convinced we became a communist country on 1/20/09???

I spent months blogging on a right wing forum....many of.these folks were super convinced that  Obama is joseph stalin. were we a commo country when Bush signed medicare part D?  or when Bush the first raised taxes??
or when Reagan participated in Glasnost with Gorby??
was Nixon a communist for opening up dialog with both the USSR and Red China? the confusion is profound.

Tea Partiers don't inconvenience themselves with things like definitions and truths.  We are a communist country because they say we are and have some vague notion they were indoctrinated with that communism is pure evil.

Ask one of them a simple question, such as to define communism, and it is likely most of them wouldn't be able to.  And a more complicated question, such as the difference between Maoism and Leninism will likely bring blank stares.

I wouldn't be surprised if most of them couldn't correctly identify the form of our government, so why even bother.

I suspect it has to do with not understanding communism in any of its forms. Even the most educated of the Tea Party fail in their definitions, fail in their interpretations of our Bill of Rights, fail in their interpretations of our Constitution, fail in their identification of our form of government (Democratic Republic).

Realistically much of the Tea Party leadership is playing to the crowd. They are using language to inflame their constituents. The evil of Communism is much easier for many to understand and when combined with Nazism, even better to keep the masses riled up. This combination means "godless", it means loss of freedom, it means loss of personal property. These are things Americans think they understand and will fight against. Will rally against. Will vote against even to the point of voting against their own best interest as we saw in the mid-term elections.

I think junkseller has it right, the Tea Party isn't going to be inconvenienced with real definitions or truth. So long as they can throw names, point fingers and cause enough people to fear we will be a communist country, the POTUS will be a Communist or a Muslim or not a Citizen, simply because they say so.

it's called racism to the tenth degree. read up about the tea party and you will find that racism is one of their biggest draw backs. if the president was white, communism and all the other stuff wouldn't be an issue.

all of you are right of course....
i had this tea partier who was absolutley convinc ed about our communist country  and was argueing in a competent way about!  but he couldn't get the idea that the bailout and nationalization of GM  account for a fraction of the economy!!  its just that the issue was focused on and warped by fox news!
