Do you think there are more closeted guys now, or before?
I think it is pretty same, since our genetic code hasn't change that much...
well definitely before...what plagues today's gays is that they live in a ghetto, but this time it is implanted in their own heads.....they maybe out, but they think that they have to "celebrate" their sexual orientation by behaving in a certain way....have you met many homosexual men that do not like Madonna or Kylie Minogue, but instead like Heavy Metal....?? that is one example....they think that instead of being themselves, they have to play a certain role and live a certain lifestyle....perhaps the role that the society wants them to play, and it is portrayed by the media and the soap operas or reality television.
Got to be fewer now. When I was a kid, the worst thing you could call someone was--well, 'the other f-word.'
While there's certainly no shortage of homophobia today, the stigma has lessened overall, and a whole lot more gays are 'out.' Since I agree with Peter Castle that our genetic code hasn't changed much, I think the proportion of the population that's gay hasn't changed much, either.
So if significantly more are 'out,' significantly fewer are closeted.
There were far more members of the male sector in the closet before on a percentile basis.
There are far more in the closet now--because of the world's population figures.
One has to think about how to phrase the question. Homosexuality has always been in the human kingdom and animal kingdom--it just depends what era we are talking about in regards to its acceptance in society.
The Romans thought man/man love was a higher form of love than man/woman--time and place becomes an issue, as well.
As for the "closet?" I don't know if they had closets in the Roman era, but I know they did in jolly, old England where men were often suppressing their sexual preferences--must have been that limp accent...lol.
it almost the same... however, the media seem to be embracing
closet guys more than before, it a bit disturbing.. to the straight eyes.(
I would say, fewer now, but definitely still not an issue of the past. Many people are scared to be themselves in a world where peoples' reactions towards others sexual preferences is unpredictable.
