   Why is it that humanity only joins together under catastrophic circumstances?
   
   Why do we take everything for granted, until a major event takes place? Why can't we maintain our bonds, and care for one another in normal situations? The truth is...when our world can die at any moment, our wars, politics, and religions don't matter.

   We only join together after catastrophe because the human race always seems to need a shock to their hearts like a big disaster somewhere else to stop being selfish and caring only about their lives and where they are headed, as opposed to naturally thinking about everyone as a whole, and accepting the truth that we are all connected and should always be looking out for each other, without the need of something horrible happening first.

   Most people have a very narrow view of the world around them. 
   
   It takes a shock to bring them out of their cocoon and help one another.
   
   Then most people revert back to the way things were before. 
   
   Back to complacency.

   Many people are too proud to ask for help.  They perfer to suffer in silence rather than in embarrassment.  When a catastophy strikes an area, this need can not be hidden due to human pride.
   
   Help is there, we are too proud to ASK for it.

   Things happen that tear our world apart and there isn't much we can do about that.  The Lord makes it to rain on just and unjust folks alike, but what we can do afterwards is be there for each other.  It's at times of great despair that people show just how wonderful, how generous, how caring, they can be when they want to.  Most folks are pretty good most of the time and the things they do that are good don't stand out in the lime-light as they do during a public catastrophe.

   Because people are usually too caught up with their own lives to care about people beyond their immediate circle of friends. Disasters make them reevaluate and reach out to others for a little while before their general apathy returns.

    It is human philosophy that we join hands in difficult times.The governments join hands to secure their own interest not on human base interest.It is very good if at least we join hands in difficult times.People have hearts and minds but governments have interst and politics.
    It is a great tragedy in the modernworld.For eample in Japan earth quake,all are rushing to serve Japani People but these same people do not rush when there is War in Iraq,Afghanistan,Palestine or Sudan.It is because war effects on people and not on Governments sitting in PAlace and strong buildings under tight security.

    well it just makes sense, would you rather us be joined together when everything is fine, and then go our own ways when people are suffering, when everything is running smoothly we have no need to look for others for help, but I personally am thankfull that we do come together under catastrophic circumstances, it shows that there are alot of good people out there

    When there is a catastrophe or perceived danger, it is part of our human design to seek each other out for support and comfort. This is because a group can combine resources, defend each other and survive far more effectively then a person can individually. Physical proximity and touch cause us to secrete happy-chemicals that relax and calm us during times of threat and stress.
    
    The old War of The Worlds radio hoax is the classical example in social psychology. When people heard over the radio live, that aliens were attacking earth and killing people, the phone lines lit up with people calling to talk loved ones. Hordes of people walked, droved and cycled to be with one and other. People gathered in groups holding hands, hugging and generally being close to each other around the radio. They didn’t realize it was just a well produced radio drama.

    I agree with onegoodwomans comment, when in need people are too proud to ask for help. Men more so, when they need help with directions, money, technology they would rather that they do it themselves. When tragedy happens, you can not hide the fact you need help. I think that is it nice that the world can come together to help each other. Too bad it's only when bad things happen.

    Most of the time we are caught up in the day-to-day reality of our lives. When something big happens, we are shocked out of our complacency, and we feel that we must show some concern in order to live with ourselves. It is impossible, however, to stay constantly in crisis mode, so we mostly put out of our minds the conventional suffering that takes place every day. It's unfortunate that we spend most of our time thinking about relatively petty things, but it may be how we are programmed. To survive, you have to focus on what is immediately in front of you.
