Is it true that the United States Government is the largest employer in the nation?

The industrial industry has 11 million employees compared to the US government's 22.5 million. How many more employees  were added since President '' I ''  Obama was elected? It's a known fact that government does not create wealth, GOVERNMENT just takes it. Is Socialism, communism or capitalism  a choice of the people or the politicians?

Specifically, the nation's largest employer is the Department of Defense. The second largest employer in the US is Walmart. The third largest is the US Postal Service, which is not funded by taxpayer money. So, I agree with you. The Department of Defense is too large and should be significantly reduced.

It's true and your observations are correct.  The federal government has become a dollar munching monster.

    Good to see ya BTW.

Absolutely it's true that the government is the largest employer in the nation. You pretty much gave the answer in your question (22.5 mil vs. 11 mil.) As to how many people have been added to the government payroll since this administration took over in January 2009 is anybodies guess because getting a straight answer from this crowd is like pulling teeth. And most politicians genuinely love socialism (whether they admit it or not) because it gives them more control of the economy. Plus there have been many in the private sector that have lost their jobs. How many of them had to seek employment in the public sector?

    Excellent Question

    Thanks

Makes perfect sense to me.  The US government is overfed.  Time to put it on a strict no nonsense diet.  I wish we had a third political party in this country.  One that genuinely was interested in small government.  There are relatively few things we legitimately need to be controlled by a sovereign entity.

It is obvious that Bush increased control by the Federal government.  That control has only increased since Obama took over.  Makes it plain to me that both parties are failsauce.
