Is money the root of (almost) all evil? You might say it is religion but many of these people have a

price for their silence, you may say it is jelousy but surely this is mainly down to monetary assets?

I honestly believe so, and because it's something that can't be demolished in any society it will remain that way. If you think about it, our culture revolves around money. We go to school from a young age up until 18 eventually so that we can go our separate ways and get a job... to make money. The teachers teaching us make money. Almost every service offered today involves employees earning wages and so on. Even volunteers usually have a motive such as getting community service hours for a college resume. People do things because of money. Wars provoked, lives taken, land stolen, etc etc etc.

To the religion part of it, remember there are many people that feed off of people's faith to make money with their 'holy donation boxes'. It's just sad that no one notices the brand new rims & Mercedes Benz their pastor got meanwhile their church hasn't had AC for months. When pastor Eddie Long was having relations with boys in his own church against his religions teachings, he used church money to 'pamper' them and so on. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying every church is that way, but I'm just saying stuff happens. Honest people can be tempted to do bad things.

I think money is just a tool that lies in the hands of the beholder. When in the hands of the most anyone, it has the power to go towards bad things. Some may pay for prostitutes and illegal drugs and our governments use money like there's no tomorrow so money's abuse is on all sides of the table. This debate can go on and on forever to the people who marry for money, thievery, corporations, white collar crimes, and the previously listed wars + land and lives taken from people. There are countless examples of this that in history unfortunately do nothing more than repeat itself.

The Bible does not say that money is the root, it's "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil." It's a fine distinction, but a relevant one.
Greed and selfishness is the problem. Money, itself, can be used for good or for evil

I think it's the LACK of money that's the root cause of evil.

Very good Rochelle,  Money isn't the problem, it's the love of money that is the root of evil.  I know people with money and the only thing they have on their mind is how to make even more money.  It consumes their every thought throughout every day of their lives and it's sad, so very sad to see them slaves to this all consuming love of money.

The love of Money or more precisely what money can buy it in all likelyhood at the root of evil in most cases, but not all cases. There is evil committed in the name of lust for someone or something other than money.Control over others is done usually with money. If,money is not then, threats or intimidation of some kind may be at the root.
If,you look at the history of money you will find it's value has been manipulated by those who stand to gain control over people and their assets.
Money ,itself is seen as a commodity like food or cars ,houses etc.
However,If,you can simply print it up like the federal reserve or technically the government printing office from which the federal reserve has print up unitedstates bonds backed by you and me to sell to foriegn countries to get funds to supply their customers  through their twelve federal banks all across the country or  you have been given the right to loan that money bought with the credit of you and me and have the audacity to ask you and me to pay them interest on top of it is like your local bank asking you to sign off on a loan based on your credit rating or ability to pay it back plus interest on money that only exists because you and me - all the people together have the responsability to the bank for the repayment of the loan if you personally default on the loan in the case of a federally insured loan.Thats how these wallstreet investment bankers get away with making bad loans in the first place.Whatever happens they can't lose at least in the short term
    The taxpayers lose.
The home buyers who can't afford their mortgages lose
    Remenber the Game Monopoly?.

I believe pride (self elevation) is the root of all evil. Why do people love money? Why are people jealous? Why do people steal? Why do people lie? Why do people murder? Think about it.

No, money has nothing to do with anything - it's the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil.  One can not serve two masters, and if you serve Mammon, you serve nothing else.

I don't think money is the root of all evil.  I think envy/jealousy are "big roots of evil", and I think insecurity is the root of a whole lot of evil. Damaged, flawed, and inferior brain/personality development are also big causes of evil.  Ignorance and ego are another two causes of evil.

When it comes down to it, I think money is kind of the least of everybody's problems when it comes to roots of evil.  The only way money factors into evil is when/if the person(s) committing the evil has one of the "issues" mentioned above.

I would say greed is the root of all evil. Remember, money didn't exist a few thousand years ago, yet we have had a problem with greed in society for the entirety of our existence on this planet. For whatever reason humans tend to want more than they need and that generally leads to problems. Greed would encompass money, land, personal property, attractive mates, etc.

Rochelle Franks said it best - All the money in the world can't buy you happiness - only you control that.
I know people who are happy when they are in jail...it may sound crazy but it is true, they have no worries then, they know they will be fed & have a place to stay.
if you think money is evil - then mail it to me and I will do some good with it

I've seen a lot of poor people who are pretty nasty.  I think the love of power is the root of all evil.  I  think most serial killers, pedophiles, and such arent in it for money.  I think we subscribe to the thought that the wealthy are only so because they put money above all else.  We all would like to be well off, so why would only the people who have succeeded in that, be evil?  True evil, doesn't seem to be motivated by money, power yes, money is just a by product of power.

The distinction made between money and the love for money is very much appropriate but in my opinion  love for money is not the major cause. I  firmly believe the root of all evil is the lack of education. If a person has the basic education then he can cope up from all the odds. Right education gives right thinking and quite naturally how can one think right when education is denied.

According to the greatest book ever written, the Bible, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil (1 Tim 6:10).  Simply put money is a very powerful facilitator of motive and intent of the heart.

Money in and of it’s self is not evil.  The vain desire for it and the mislead confidence of hoarding it is the tell tale story.  A Hospital is build by money and a burglary is committed while trying to wrongly accumulate it.

The impact of money is solely dependent on its purpose and use by the individual, group or nation whose is pursuing it.  If the intent for money is one of good will, then good becomes of it.

Likewise, when the desire for money is centered strictly on greed, pride and arrogance and all that these terms represent then evil is sure to quickly follow.

Therefore, in the end it’s up to those who have or pursue obtaining money as to whether it’s good or bad.

    Hope this helps :-)
