Do you think it is a mistake for the USA to get out of the manned mission space flights now?

It's one of the worst decisions made by this President, and that's saying a lot! As soon as Russia feels like it they can just stop taking our guys into space and we're screwed. Mistake? I'd say so.

In a speech at Kennedy Space Center Obama pledged a manned mission to an asteroid by 2025.  On top of that, he wants manned missions to Mars by 2030.  I have more about it in a hub here:  http://hubpages.com/hub/Exciting-Space- … r-lifetime

On a side note, a problem to the pride of some Americans is that the Russians are looking at Mars too.  They're trying to make it there by 2030 too according to this article: http://www.spacedaily.com/news/mars-future-05h.html

I think that people see NASA as an easy way to cut government spending.  What is hurting NASA the most is indecisiveness on the whole.  NASA puts some research here and there, but never goes for one single thing forcibly.  Researchers are too stubborn by doing their own thing.  So yes we may rely on Russian rockets for the very short term, but SpaceX has already proven a much cheaper method for lifting objects to space.  I think the best bet for the future of space flight for the U.S. is SpaceX.

Yes!  I feel we will be losing ground to other countries.  We should develop the science and knowledge we need to one day inhabit other planets.

We've come a long way over the years in developing our knowledge of the space environment.  It makes no sense to me to abandon it now.  I'm a believer we should go to Mars and explore other worlds.
