I'll choose option C, which is that this is a trick question. Social Security is not part of the federal income. Social Security is deducted from your paycheck and is supposed to be used for the social security trust fund. Income tax is deducted from your paycheck and is spent on the budget: government programs, aircraft, ships, weapons, and warfare. The latter is so expensive that we go further into debt every year because the government doesn't raise enough in income tax. The media lies and includes social security as government income and as government expenditures when it makes its budgetary reports. This is done to create a false buffer that hides that fact that 90% of the federal budget (including deficit) goes either directly or indirectly toward defense. Include the social security trust fund in your fugures and it will look like social security gets the majority of the federal budget.
