Facebook will survive for quite a long time as it will adapt to new technology..such companies spend a lot on research and are very innovative..

Google is really trying to overtake them launching the Google+ but after all Facebook has it's roots deep in everyone's lives now and it will be a long time before people are really bored of it and start looking for something new.

Facebook, is so popular that it will be hard to tear down unless governmental policies, and laws take full control then that's the only way people will drop more and more from that social network~got to have freedom of communication.

Facebook will only die if a better social site arises. However, it's hard for any new site to outgrow Facebook because of its current fame and on how it adopts to the current trend. In fact, there are even several internet marketing strategies which uses the site as their main traffic source.  This only proves how powerful the site is in terms of the number or users it have.

It will atleast take a whole generation for any one to out beat facebook as people from our generation are addicted to facebook maybe someone targeting the new generation can deepen the roots after 10-20 years or so, example is google+

The sooner the better in my opinion face book has lost touch with its users, now forces changes without consultation and does whatever it pleases even when it displeases the vast majority of its users, as soon as another alternative comes along I am leaving facebook.

I will be answering your question from Nigeria community perspective, facebook has been having her best time in Nigeria for long, but things are begining to change to twitter over here simply because Facebook privacy is nothing to write home about. Therefore in the next two or three years the number of Nigerians on twitter will triple that of facebook.
