Do you think the US government should grant citizenship to 12 million illegal immigrants in the US?

The US government is contemplating a plan to make all 12 million illegal immigrants in the country full citizenship. Do you think that they should have this granted? Do you think they should have to apply and go through normal channels to gain citizenship?

It has to be a case by case basis.  I am sick of hearing how criminals from other countries come here and continue their wrongful ways but then some innocent kid trying to stay in school is deported simply because their parents came here illegally when they were too little to know any better.  And I say all this coming from a family of immigrants who worked hard and got their citizenships through the normal channels.

I think that lately, especially after 9/11, that the process has become much tougher but at the same time we cannot simply grant citizenship to just anybody - that's insane!

It has to be a case by case basis. For those that show they are good citizens and deserving of it then by all means let them in and make it easier for them to stay.  Deporting smart, hard working people back to their countries means WE in this country are losing out on what they can contribute here.

But we have to weed out the bad eggs and simply granting citizenship to everyone is not the solution.  It's not the type of problem that is clear cut like that.

If you feel that all illegal immigrants should be granted citizenship, I encourage you to live in a Border State for a few years. I have known several outstanding individuals who obtained their citizenship legally and they agree with me that immigration is a major problem in America. Of course, what does it really matter? I live in a state where illegals are already given driver's licenses and can obtain state aid such as free health insurance and food stamps. May as well make them pay taxes.

THANK YOU Jonesy, let those who want illegals see what it will be like when they are in THEIR communities and neighborhoods, destroying it and causing all kinds of havoc in addition to exhausting ourr already taxed social systems.j

Suddenly the US Government has a plan?  Huh.

This is nothing more than a blanket attempt to avoid the situation entirely.  Blanket Amnesty is not going to work.

And there is no plan.  The "Plan" under the Obama Administration is to wait until he is out of office, but to continue to sue the States who actually do have a plan.

We as a country spend Billions each week "fighting terrorists" then have an open border policy where 12 million people can enter the country illegally.

That's some plan.  I feel so much safer.

      Totally illogical indeed!

it is impractical to grant citizenship to 12 million illegal immigrants since it rewards illegal acts and cheats individuals who wish to take the legal path to citizenship.  impractical because the illegals would not come forward to be identified.
there should be a process to allow these people an opportunity to become citizens which demands more than the present process for legal immigration.

Voice of reason.  It should be more stringent rules as to who immigrates to this country.  Only those with relevant/contributable skills, a high skill level, and education should be allowed to immigrate to this country.
