Haven't read the story yet, but yes, of course you do. Freedom of religion is guaranteed by the Constitution, and while that doesn't mean that those guarantees will be respected by every individual you meet--nor even by every government action taken--you will definitely have legal, moral and other forms of support if you have to defend your rights.
American Muslims number in the millions--estimates range from 1.3 to 7 million. The range reflects the fact that official censuses do not ask about religion. Of that total, roughly a quarter are believed to be native-born Americans. Large numbers are naturalized citizens.
It would be idle to deny that there are, and have been tensions, particularly since 9/11. But there's no shortage of Muslim Americans who are well integrated into American society and who are doing well. In fact, I know a few.
