Honesty is a virtue, yes, however the simple fact is that politicians will lie and sometimes use their lies for the benefit of the United States. A good example: 'honest' Abe lied about sending weaponry to Fort Sumter which they desperately needed to end the confederate siege.
As for the perfect candidate:
Businessman; they must know how to manage money properly and appropriate finances to capable personnel in their cabinet/staff.
Charismatic; must be presentable and know how to speak to both liberals and conservatives in a way that doesn't offend anyone.
Intelligent; the man must know what he's doing (or woman). He/she must be able to plan ahead and see out that his/her ideas are practical and reasonable.
Daring; we can't have a push over. We need someone who's willing to push us to the limit of what we can accomplish and is eager to get us there.
Moral; we look toward our leaders as an example of what we as citizens could accomplish. The president would have to be someone with the intentions of the country on their minds.
