Have we become morally bankrupt as a nation, in the last few years?
It's not happened over the past few years, but the past many years.
It's boiling frogs. You can't throw a frog into boiling water - he'll jump out. You have to put a frog in room temp water and the slowly bring it to a boil.
But no, we're not all morally bankrupt, just our war monger corporate government - that's what is morally bankrupt.
The entire whole of American mass media - that's a completely morally bankrupt coterie there too.
Believing what mass media proclaims as "true" makes individuals either morally bankrupt or so stupid that they're beyond the pale so far as morality any way - they don't understand the concept.
None of this has happened by mistake. America couldn't stay the way it was post WWII, there was too much corruption to be spread via bankers and media thugs across the globe for the common American to not become infected with that garbage too, of course.
Has the nation that conquered the continent, slaughtered Indians, exploited immigrants, and perpetuated African slavery become morally bankrupt?
Is America morally bankrupt, as many will claim? A look at various facets and considerations of our ethics and morality. read more
Initially, this question was aimed at Britain, however, with hindsight maybe the question should have read, Have the world become more morally bankrupt in the last few years?
I would just state how ironic it is that those who like to get up on their soapbox, proclaiming that our country is in jeopardy, that we have lost our way, yada yada yada, clutching their Bibles and preaching against all forms of liberal/secular evils are the ones who are the most morally bankrupt people this nation has known. Complete, shameless hypocrites for sure!
We became morally bankrupt long ago, back when we decided using nuclear weapons was a good idea.
After we bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it was the Japanese emperor who decided that it was in the interest of HUMANITY for Japan to surrender, because the Americans were actually planning more attacks and had no plans of stopping anytime soon.
From Hirohito,
"Moreover, the enemy now possesses a new and terrible weapon with the power to destroy many innocent lives and do incalculable damage. Should we continue to fight, not only would it result in an ultimate collapse and obliteration of the Japanese nation, but also it would lead to the total extinction of human civilization. Such being the case, how are We to save the millions of Our subjects, or to atone Ourselves before the hallowed spirits of Our Imperial Ancestors? This is the reason why We have ordered the acceptance of the provisions of the Joint Declaration of the Powers. "

Never in my life have I seen such vitriol directed at our current POTUS and our former POTUS. Some people didn't like Clinton or Daddy Bush, some made fun of Ford and thought Carter was inept, and some thought Ronnie was senile, but I honestly don't remember as much pure hate directed at any of...
