   Has our entertainment on TV gone too far?
   
   After watching "America's Got Talent", last night, I was appaulled that they allowed a man to repeatedly smash his "jewels"  (most polite way I know how to put it) and then voted him onto the next level of competition!  Is this outrageous or what?

   Even when I was young, I rarely watched television. No time to watch. I think it is wonderful entertainment from time to time but that is all it ever meant to me...so I have no idea at the present time about the shows.

   An Entertainment program that does not speak of the Savior but lures us to another level of self hindrance a stairways to heaven is not worth it. But first i will keep in silence if i am watching and giving birth to it. I must not preach if i could be a stumbling block to my fellow brethren. I would have to ask the Holy Spirit to help me clean out this sin with his help only will i be able to discard it if i Repent and ask for mercy. of course resist the devil and he shall flee from u but again I must depend on the Holy Spirit with His strength to operate from within. It is difficult for God to Forgive if i dont Repent. Judas had did not repent but Peter did and so God Forgave Peter thus leading Peter to greater Revelations! I hope i am making sense here sister ..    And I think I know why television has become what it is today. 
   
   It is all about content.
   
   Back in the day when television was television there were only three national networks and the mostly independent regional super stations like Detroit's Channel 50 back in the 70's. Then along came cable networks to add competition for limited content.  Now television will allow just about anything on TV just for the ratings and viewers.
   
   I don't look at TV anymore, (the TV I have sits in the closet), I just stream whatever good old TV shows I can find and leave it at that.
   
   But I do miss PBS....

   Yes, it has gone too far. PBS is my favorite television network to watch. This is because there is hardly any screaming, profanity or gross gestures made. Good question, backporch.

      We are retired folks and sometimes TV fills our day, however, we only get one channel, otherwise I stream good quality shows instead!  I love PBS too!

      I know quite a few people who will only watch PBS, so we are not alone in this. They have great cooking shows, Antiques Roadshow, and Masterpiece Theatre, among other things. I watch PBS because it is usually intellectual and peaceful.

   I'm certainly no prude and I'm very open minded. But some of the stuff that is on British television is not only crap but very offensive! Some of the acts are extremely suggestive in a very lurid way - it's sickening to be honest!
   
   In addition, provided the so-called entertainment is shown after the 9pm watershed, basiclly they get away with anything. We have an annual TV thing called Comic Relief and it is a good cause and raises money for charities in Britain. But one 'comic?' last year started making jokes about deaf people! I was totally disgusted that this ignoramus was allowed to spout out this unfunny and derogatory crap! But I think some members of the audience who laughed were even worse! I think TV really needs to get reviewed big time. For me personally, I tend to watch documenatries, history and nature on the TV - the rest is really just mind-numbing rubbish!

   Television took a downward spiral when it decided to go the cheap way via reality TV. Jersey Shore, Teen Moms, and on and on with inane and profane broadcasting. What possible value have the Kardashians provided? Then we have a litany of other garbage in and garbage out shows. TV once offered time to sit with family and NEVER be embarrassed by what you watched, unless it was a National Geographic show. Television is as disgusting as our politicians...they both turn my stomach and neither are suitable for family viewing.

   Yes. I can hardly believe what is allowed on TV these days. I stopped watching a lot of shows because of all the vulgar. It blows my mind what people think is entertaining. Since when is it entertaining to slam somebody in the (as you say) jewels? What about that show where people had to stick their head in a box filled with bees? Is that entertainment? And, was it "Survivor" that made the people eat a rat? Or, something gross like that. The only show I get real joy from watching nowadays is old re-runs of "I Love Lucy".

   I quit watching TV when reality shows became the thing. I can not understand the entertainment value in watching stupid people try to be stupider. The shows have gotten so raunchy that it is embarrassing for me to watch it in mixed company. There are a few, such as NCIS, that I will watch if I think about it when they are on.

    In some cases, yes., I think it has. But, the cure for that is to change the channel. I think it is up to me to not watch what I consider less than worthy. I also feel if I am truly upset by what I see (and some of it is upsetting to say the least) it is up to me to contact the station and their advertisers if I want to make any difference at all.

    This is what comes from being prudes for the last century.  Seriously.. Ever heard the saying: "In America, sex is an obsession.  In other countries, it's a fact." ?
    
    We'll get bored with juvenile, gross, sex humor soon enough (although not soon enough for my personal taste) but it's still relatively new and novel for the up-and-coming generation, so it will be front-and-center for a while.  There's nothing we can do about it.  This means reality TV that isn't real, bathroom humor at it's worst, and people getting off on hurting themselves and others because up until recently, we weren't allowed to show that sort of thing on TV.  Oh, yes... there's the violence that's been on TV for... like...forever, but that's not the same as laughing at someone being kicked in the groin repeatedly.  We've been prudes for about as long as TV has been around.  There's bound to be some backlash over that.  We're still not allowed to show pink parts on TV yet.  When THAT happens, maybe the pendulum will begin it's trek back.
