   Should we re-elect a president who proves he doesn't do what he promised?
   
   When a president doesn't deliver what he has promised while campaigning, should people vote to elect him again?

   Certainly not, whomever he is or was, I try to stay away from politics with friends and colleagues. Good question though, worth delving into by those more knowledgeable about the issues than I.

   The answer is no. But we should also look at what he promises. Is he promising things that are deliverable, feasible and/or logical. If the answer is no to those then he or she should never have been elected to begin with.

   No president keeps all of  his campaign promises.  If there was a policy like that, no president would get re-elected! The person who runs for office, has one kind of persona.  When that person gets elected, all bets are off.  They are now under the influence of big monyed interests.  There is also no way of holding them accountable for all the things they have pledged.

   No. It's not necessarily whether he does or does not keep promises. It's the fact he makes any promise in the first place. How could you with the bipartisan congress that we have. If he truly believes he can keep the promises made, he is dillusional and not mentally fit to run a country. He should replace the words " I will" with the words "I'll try"

   Having covered local government for a few years as a newspaper reporter, I can tell you many candidates think they can do all manner of things if they get elected, only to find out, if it was that easy the guy before them would have done it already.
   
   President Polk kept all his campaign promises.  He's the only one who has.  But many took office under better circumstances than this one.  I'd like to give him four more years to see what he can get done now that we are not falling off a cliff.
   
   I laugh when people say he's done nothing.  Since when is ending two wars and killing the world's Number One Enemy - nothing?

   As long as I've been paying attention to politics, I've noticed that no President ever does what he promised. I remember hearing the first President Bush say, "Read my lips: No new taxes." I was still in high school (I think) at the time, and I thought, "If I could vote for him, I would. He's not going to raise taxes. That's awesome!" What was one of the first things he did after being elected? Raise taxes.
   
   If people voted on Presidents based on whether or not they kept their word, no one would ever serve a second term...and there are tons of Presidents who were in office for 8 years.
   
   What it boils down to is this: people simply need to vote for the person they believe in, knowing full well that there will be disappointments.

   I'm sorry.. but when and what presidents have EVER kept all their promises??? lets be realistic here this is one of the more horrible times in american history i think he has done a great job keeping this country (thought barely) afloat after what the bush administration had destroyed!!!

    Since policy is not made by the President alone, one must look at if the other Executive Branches have co-operated so he could keep all of his campaign promises.
    
    We also have to look at what happens after the election, as reasonable promises are sometimes supreceded by dealing with more critical issues (ex if you have to spend a lot of money helping the country recover from a hurricane, you may have less cash to address some of your other promises)

    Without being specific to a given president, I would say that it depends on his overall record and leadership ability. We are all wanting instant gratification, but the reality is that we have to wait to see things reach fuition. Sometimes a second term is necessary.

    the obvious answer is no. However, as voters, we have become jaded. We don't want to hold our elected representatives accountable for their actions, and will not use the political power we have as voters to hold them accountable. Instead we retreat from the polls and complain. If more REGISTERED voters held their elected officials accountable to them, we'd have some REAL change!

    Circumstances can exist that can prevent him from solving the problems that the president said he/she was going to solve. That said, he/she must at least try and from where I have sat for nearly four years, I've not seen that he has tried to do anything but point fingers and divide.
    
    Oh! I didn't ask if you were talking about the current POTUS, I just assumed you were. Please excuse me, but that is how I'd assess any situation, Conervative, Liberal, Independent or Green!
