After the devastation in Colorado, should policy regulations be passed before the election?

What will the media talk about Monday? Social issues, tax returns, Obama's birthplace or the economy, which will lead the discussion?

The only gun regulation I've ever considered is instant background checks. This would weed out a lot of people that shouldn't have guns like the mentally unstable, violent criminals, those on parole, or probation.
In the Colorado case, not even an instant background check would have helped. The shooter apparently has no criminal or violent history.
What will the media be talking about Monday? Everything you mentioned, plus the jawbones like Limbaugh will be screaming it's Obama's fault for whatever he did or didn't do to stop it, or blame it on Obama as an election year campaign stunt, & the shooter is just a pawn in the conspiracy.

I agree that the instant background checks would be a deterent also how about the availability of ammunition to be sold. No assault weapons or military type guns should be sold either. Intent is the hardest to discern. Thanks for the reply ttagpine.
