   What are the changes in the Constitution of the United States due to?
   
   Are these changes due to oversights by the Founding Fathers or an evolving, ever-changing nation? "Changes" refer to any and all amendments since the days of the Founding Fathers.

   as usual, it depends - the first 10 amendments, aka the Bill or RIghts were part of the compromise made during the ratification process of the constitution itself.  subsequent ones had varying reasons, ranging from correcting human rights violations [13th, 14th , 15th, 19th in particular],  to advocating for a particular moral/religipous point of view [ prohibition].  others became necessary as the world changed and modern times required faster responses - eg, the presidential & VP succession detailed in the 25th

   The Bill of Rights itself, which is the first ten amendments was written because the Anti-Federalists couldn't get the government they wanted.  So they agreed about a stronger central government as long as these ten amendments protected peoples rights and states rights. 
   
   Everything after that usually caused more harm than good.  We disregard the Constitution on a daily basis in today's world.

      Absolutely! This is pretty much my opinion as well. Our nation's disregard for the Constitution is ridiculous.

      how did freeing the slaves, establishing equal rights, women's suffrage, and free election of senators cause more harm??   what harm was caused by shortening the time before elected officials took office?  do voting 18 yr olds cause harm?

      It was government that made slavery legal, you are given rights as an individual not as a group.  Woman should have rights, but not because they are woman but because they are an individuals. You shouldn't need laws that give benefits to groups.

      Reality is that interpreting the document has differed over time, leading to our need to make changes to it. No doubt there will be more in future, but ratification will be difficult as population has grown so much. Imprefect but better than most.

      KK, the problem is we don't follow the Constitution.  The Constitution lists the roles for each branch.  The B of R gives the people rights that can't be taken away.  If you read the tenth amend it says anything not listed for fed is left to states.

   The bill of rights were not so much rights as they were 'limits' on what the federal government 'shall not' do to 'We The People'.  They were written to protect the citizens from an overpowering government.
