Would you vote for a third-party candidate to send a message, or do you feel it's a wasted vote?
I think its a wasted vote, unless you are voting for the guy in your neighborhood who cleans the litter up everyday when everyone else is tossing theirs by the curb, or your kid brother who would die before he put his mother in a nursing home, or the guy who buys every lonely woman in the neighborhood a rose on valentines day they yes I would vote 3rd party hands down. But if its a career politician in the 3rd party then you end up with the lesser or 3 evils.
I have done it before, although I doubt that is sent much of a message. Most of the time, I end up picking the "lesser of the two evils." It feels like a wasted vote when it is cast for someone who has no chance in hell of winning.
I would vote for a third part candidate IF I thought he/she had a good chance of winning and IF he/she had had values/beliefs that mirror my own. National politics is a bit different. Republican and Democrat parties hold a monopoly on the bid for the White House, and even when there is a good alternative to the Republican/Democratic candidate, he can't gain a footing.
Take this election as an example. Obama is Communist/Socialist, and Mitt Romney is an East Coast Liberal who loves big government. I would love to see Gary Johnson (running on the Libertarian ticket) win the Presidency...I think his views mirror that of the majority of Americans. However, since the Democrats and Republicans control the election process, he will not be invited to the debates, and in most states will only be a write in candidate. So I guess I will once again vote for the lesser of two evils.
I think it is not only a wasted vote but a third party candidate that cannot win, takes votes away from legitimate candidates--and can move an election towards a candidate that might not have otherwise won.
If we all voted for the same third party candidate then we would have a third party president. How can each vote be wasted if that is a possible outcome? Right now it might seem like a waste since it is such a minority view, but those votes are seen no matter what. Those votes would encourage more third party candidates, more money for campaigning to those parties which would help the word reach even more people to change their votes over to third parties in the future. My vote will send a message, just as I can spread the word to others and hope their vote can send a message. Just sitting on our hands and voting for the lesser of two evils is useless in creating a nation of leadership and progress. Do you think people should have to display an understanding of politics before being allowed to voteI don't mean an in-depth understanding, just a basic one of how government works and what each party/candidate stands for.

What would it take to elect Gary Johnson as president? We may never agree on the small things, but who wants war, tyranny and economic strife? The Demopublicans and Republicrats both want more war, tyranny and government spending. With $16+Trillion in debt, we can't afford more of the same. With the...
