I agree with Josak in that I'm much too cynical to put any faith in a politician. Obama has failed to deliver on the 2 most pressing matters - the weak economy and the unemployment rate.
And I agree with WillStarr that part of the problem is that anyone, regardless of ignorance or lack of education, can vote. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for equality. However, do you think the driving test should be eliminated, and everyone above a certain age should be allowed to drive? That'd be ridiculous. The right to vote should require a minimum of a certain level of education (i.e. High School graduate) and one should be required to pass a test before being permitted to vote. Just think of all the things that require testing. Driving, immigrants applying for citizenship, and so on. Voting should be no different. I think that would help tremendously.
Furthermore, college professors should be banned across the country from mentioning anything about their personal political beliefs in classrooms. They should encourage kids to vote and to be aware of the issues, etc., but they should be required to remain unbiased. A large part of our problem is that professors across the country are preaching their politics to these impressionable 18-22 year olds.
It's one thing at a private university. But there should be zero tolerance for it at public universities. As a tax-paying citizen, I firmly believe that any establishment that receives so much as a dime in funding from the state or federal gov. should be required to remain politically unbiased.
